        Maruti Suzuki discontinued the Ertiga diesel powertrain in April 2020 along with the diesel powertrains of all other models. The Ertiga originally featured the tried-and-tested 1.3-litre DDiS engine, and was later offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine for a very short period of time. The option was discontinued owing to stricter emission regulations, and costs involved in upgrading the engines to meet them.

        The smart hybrid system consists of a small lithium-ion battery and an integrated starter generator (ISG). This system assists the engine while starting, gives it minor torque assistance while driving and with the auto start/stop functionality, switches the car off automatically while idling, thus improving fuel efficiency. Do not confuse this with a strong hybrid system that’s available in cars such as the Grand Vitara, where the vehicle can drive purely on electric power if required.
