The car is designed very sensibly and just meets the need of the driver.The car is always just with its style, its always just with the pick up and just doesn't give up.
Coming to the structural build of the car first: It is a complex design as per manufacturer and designer but looks timid and egg-like to a common man.The body is of sheet metal and crease is provided on the bonnet like Honda City which prevents the bending and gives a streamline effect in aesthetic sense.The car only appears small but has comparable size to other small segment cars. The body is thin which gives the passengers a feel of spaciousness sitting inside.There is more than ample legroom for a person with average height of 5'8''.The chassis is very simple type. TATA has kept its concept simple, but to do complex things its always preferred to keep the main things simple.
The second most important part where TATA tried itself is the engine.The manufacturers tried two cylinders 698cc engine and counterbalance to suppress the vibration.And yes they have been quite successful since I have to, many a times, close my eyes in traffic to check if the engine is still running. One zone where TATA can improve with engine is provide a rear door to directly reach for engine maintenance which is necessary for a nano which has run 38000km like mine.Fortunately they have this feature in the newer variants.
The suspension of the car is average.You should not expect more.Its a small drive type car.A drive upto 100km per day would be quite comfortable.Though it can run more.Its peppy to drive. A power steering would help in faster navigation though. Drive quality is a function of time in this car.You will be cheerful at start but the steering and manual gear will reduce your energy level.The seats levels are little high like Wagon-R which makes it comfortable for old people to get in without stooping over.The accessories like AC gives a small lag to car as expected.But great thing is, it works.
Its the best car available for city roads of India and quite fuel efficient (gives 17-18kmpl on good roads i.e if you drive in 3rd or 4th gear. In Mumbai city conditions it gives a 14kmpl).The spare parts is not costly at all.
The car is made keeping the use in mind, which is basically the Indian roads.Though the car is made for a maximum speed of 105kmph (after which fuel is cut-off) I would suggest to never take it above 80kmph. The car weighs around 650 kg which is very less. Also TATA has provided no safety to rash drivers.
The price of car has risen considerably than before.It is around 2.6 lakhs for manual and 3.4 lakhs for AMT(Automated manual transmission).If you are planning to buy a nano I would suggest to go for AMT version.This would make you feel at ease in traffic which is worth the price and also prevent joint pains for old by using clutch.You will rejoice its driving.
