The Baleno USP happens to be mileage. Buyers don't realize that that's achieved at the cost of safety which comes from strong body panels, ABS, EBD, TC, HHC, HDC all of which add to the weight of the vehicle thereby reducing mileage. This is a conscious tradeoff one should be willing to make. Maruti has historically been making cars with poor if no safety features. Indians had been buying their cars for 2 reasons, one lack of options & two ignorance. But slowly, with the opening up of the economy & increase of consciousness people are taking their business to safer cars.
