Sleek Silver Diesel Jet Verna SX
I was scouting for c segment diesel sedan in early 2015. As my running is little high and mostly on highway I am strictly restricted to diesel and safety is my top priority (at least 2 airbags and ABS). So the options were City, Rapid, Vento and Verna. As Rapid and Vento diesel engines (1.5 ltr) is just few months at that time made me think irrespective of build qualities of these beauties. City diesel NVH, sheet metal and driveability not impressed me. The tested 1.6 CRDI engine and the Fluidic design of Verna became the top choice. I went ahead and booked Verna CRDI SX. It have all bells and whistle along with 2 airbags and ABS (which are my top priority). Buying experience at Hyundai was nice and i got delivered the car after PDI inspection. I took delivery on 3rd week of January 2015. Exterior: The exterior of the Verna after fluidic concept was one of the best in class (it is subjective) and liked silver colour due to ease of maintenance as well as she looks beautiful in sleek silver (again subjective). The placement of fog lamp and tail lamps are apt and immensely styled. Overall exterior is nice finished. Interior Interior is such a nice place to be there. The fit and finish is fantastic and best in class. As I came from the age of Maruti's and Tata which we owned earlier. This interior makes me feel superior and even it is best in the segment. The space is pretty decent and not as great as city for back row. As city provides more legroom for back row. The driver seat and back seats are comfortable and have enough thigh support which is god for long journey. AC is good and entire cabin gets cooler very soon. The rear AC vents are the miss and even the segment lower car have it, so we feel it is great miss. But as said earlier the entire cabin gets instant cooling. The cooled glove box is provided and I use it on long journey, it keeps your juice or water not so cool but prevents from getting warmer. Boot space also good and you can comfortably keep all your luggage. It has light for illumination and handy in dark. The spare wheels and jack are kept neatly beneath it. Engine and performance It is the powerful engine in paper 1.6 ltrs with 126 PS also best in the lot. I am nor rash neither sedate driver. So the performance of this machine is fantastic for me as well as most of the sedate drivers. Also it is not bad for enthusiasts as said in the review title this is diesel jet, keep the gear to maintain the RPM @ 2000 and above the torque delivery is great. She is cheetah above 2000 RPM. Overtaking is pretty easy with this engine much hassle free compare to the multijets which have turbo lag below 1800 RPM. As usual the revving in this diesel engine is fantastic and you donot feel tired on long journey even in single roads. But if you are on highways you feel much more comfortable and easily do speed of 100KMPH less than 2000 RPM. As the gear throws are longer it is easy to in drive all conditions. NVH level is better even though it is diesel. When the music player is on you donot feel any engine noise. Suspension Suspension is good but need to be better for this segment. This is one area where Hyundai need to concentrate. Ground clearance is on issue for city like Bangalore where the speed breaker and pot holes make you worry. If your car is packed with 4 well built adult, you scratch your under body in all speed breaker in Bangalore. Even your below 10 KMPH speed you will get hit at most speed breakers. But other cities are not having speed breaker like Bangalore, so it was manageable. Ride quality is decent and no issues in highway @ speed of 100 KMPH. Overall decent and need improvement. Stock alloy and Tyre are much better in look as well as road grip is fantastic. The alloy styling is best (again subjective) and the rubber feels great on highway. Fuel efficiency I am getting all around 19 and above in mix driving of 80% highway and 20%city. If drive sedate on 100% highway the mileage goes above 21. City mileage is poor due poor bumper to bumper traffic in Bangalore. Most of the time you just crawl, so I was not much worried about city mileage. As I am writing this my ODO is crossed 28K. Hyundai ASS is pretty decent and I have no issues till date. ICE The stock player is good and supports USB & AUX. The speaker sound quality also decent. If you are music enthusiast then you can look for after market one. But for me the stock player is fantastic. Summary: Verna is pretty decently packaged car in the C segment sedan. The exterior styling is great and the interior gives you premium feel. The car is loaded with all features and I just added a seat cover nothing else. I am happy customer and feel that I made fantastic choice. The overall package is tremendous and for me the engine is like a jet thats why I call it as diesel jet.
