Overview:

Volkswagen India has launched the face lifted version of Polo just ahead of the Auto Expo 2016. This is one among the top players in the country's hatchback segment, which takes strong challenge from Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Fiat Punto Evo. By introducing this upgraded version, the automaker hopes to extend the market share further. However, these latest improvements are reserved only for its top end Highline trim. But this mid range variant too carries some interesting elements, which makes it a decent buy.

Pros:

1. Outstanding exterior design with striking elements and attractive creases that makes it stand out in the crowd.
2. Delightful interiors that is roomy and packed with an array of comfort giving aspects.

Cons:

1. Ground clearance is not optimum. Manufacturer could have offered more here.
2. Higher price tag may turn back a few buyers.

Stand Out Features:

1. Good safety standards. Presence of dual airbags, ABS and other attributes ensures maximum passenger protection.
2. Impressive power output and overall performance by the diesel engine.

Overview:

Volkswagen India, a subsidiary of German automobile company has come with revised edition of Polo. It is available in three trim levels of which, Volkswagen Polo 1.5 TDI Comfortline is a mid range diesel variant. This is powered by a 1.5-litre oil burner that has a displacement capacity of 1498cc. On the inside, everything is arresting right from design to the quality of materials and features as well. Storage compartments on the inside are impressive. Good looking exteriors remain unchanged from the outgoing model. Manufacturer has assembled high level of safety standards in the trim to protect the passengers at all times. Dual airbags, ABS and other aspects are present in store to raise the safety standards. Engineering is done so as to draw top rated performance that can beat the competition.

Exterior:

Since its introduction, Polo has always scored big in terms of looks. Front facade is refreshing with those body colored bumpers at the bottom. Hood comes with muscular cuts on it, imposing the dynamic character. Volkswagen badge on the center of chrome inserted front grille is astonishing. Halogen headlights are adhered to deliver magnificent looks. To add to the looks, it is accompanied by dual beam headlamps in black finish. Honeycomb air-breather system at the bottom adds to the character. Looks are carried out on to the side profile with B-pillar design. Interior:

Black theme for interiors with scratch-proof, high quality material is mood lightning. Dual pod digital instrument cluster that holds speedometer, tachometer and other useful information is incorporated. On dashboard, integrated are a CD/ MP3 player along with USB and AUX ports. To augment driver comforts, a three spoke steering wheel is offered with sporty flat bottom structure and height adjustable driver seat. Monochrome multi-function display is affixed to display travelling time, distance travelled and other useful vehicle information. User well-being is taken care of by air conditioning, power windows, central locking with one touch function and other such aspects. Storage compartments are impressive, where we have access to 280 liter boot space, bottle holders on doors and cup holders.

Performance:

Power is drawn from the same old 1.5-liter TDI inline turbocharged diesel engine. Engine performance is boosted with 4 cylinders and 16 valves working under dual over head camshaft valve configuration. The mill with 1498 cc displacement capacity has got the potential to draw 88bhp power at 4200rpm and 230Nm torque between 1500-2500rpm. Transmission is paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox that supplies power to front wheel. The direct fuel injection technology employed here will help it to return a decent mileage of 20.1 kmpl. This powerful engine takes 13-14 seconds to reach 0-100 kmph feat and can attain a top speed of 163 kmph. The vehicle also complies with BS IV emission norms.

Ride & Handling:

Volkswagen always aspires to offer finest riding experience to the passengers. Chassis is blended with technically advanced engineering methods to deliver smooth ride. On the front axle, incorporated is a McPherson strut suspension system, while rear axle comes with a Semi independent trailing arm. Effortless maneuverability is drawn from the Rack & Pinion power steering system with tilt & telescopic adjust-ability that asks has a turning radius of 4.97M. Stop lamp on rear is placed high which is easily visible to the following vehicles. 3-point seat belts, emergency exit are impressive. Power windows, central locking and warning systems lift the standards further.

Verdict:

There are no noticeable changes in the revised edition. In terms of performance, it remains the best in the segment. And also, interior comfort and exteriors are always good for Polo. If you are looking for a super stylish hatchback with exceptional performance, then this is the model for you. But, if you prefer one with best in class mileage without spending more, then its best to look elsewhere.
