Zest Revotron 1.2T XM Review

Tata Zest is the latest compact sedan to enter into the car market and it is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. It is offered with a standard warranty of 3-years or 100000 Kilometers, whichever is earlier. The buyers can also avail an extended warranty at an additional cost paid to authorized dealer. At present, the company is selling this compact sedan in quite a few exterior paint options, which are a Platinum Silver, Sky Grey, Buzz Blue, Dune Beige, Pristine White and Venetian Red finish option for the buyers to choose from. Among the various trims available, this Tata Zest Revotron 1.2T XM is the mid range variant in its petrol line up. It is powered by a 1193cc engine, which is cleverly mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box. This variant comes with an advanced ConnectNext infotainment system by Herman, which comes with a few input options. Its front and rear wheels are further equipped with disc and drum brakes respectively. Meanwhile, the front axle is assembled with a McPherson strut, while the rear one gets a semi independent twist beam type of mechanism.

Exteriors:

The overall dimensions of this compact sedan are quite standard and it can accommodate five passengers with ease. It has a spacious boot compartment of 390 litres and its fuel tank can store about 44 litres diesel in it, which is perfect for planning longer journeys. The flared up wheel arches are equipped with a classy set of 15 inch alloy wheels, which are covered with 185/60 R15 sized tubeless radial tyres. Its door handles and ORVMs are painted in body color. These external wing mirrors are electrically adjustable and integrated with LED side turn indicator. The frontage is designed with a body colored bumper, which houses a pair of fog lamps. It also has a wide air intake section for cooling the engine. Just above, the black finished radiator grille is fitted with a chrome humanity line. It also has a company emblem, which is embedded in the center. This grille is flanked by a radiant head light cluster that is powered by projector headlamps and turn indicators. The rear end has a large windscreen with a high mounted stop lamp, a body colored bumper and a stylish tail light cluster.

Interiors:

The internal section of this Tata Zest Revotron 1.2T XM variant is quite spacious and designed with a dual tone dashboard. It is equipped with a few features like AC vents, a large glove box, a 3-spoke steering wheel and an advanced instrument panel. This variant comes with well cushioned seats, which are integrated with adjustable head restraints. These seats provide enough leg space and head room for all the passengers and covered with fabric upholstery. The instrument panel has a few features like a digital tripmeter, key-in and light-off reminder buzzer, a digital tachometer, low fuel warning light, door ajar and driver seat belt reminder notifications. This variant is powered by a 1.2-litre, Revotron petrol mill, which has a displacement capacity of 1193cc. This engine is integrated with 4-cylinders and sixteen valves using double overhead camshaft based valve configuration. It has the ability to produce about 88.8bhp at 5000rpm in combination with 140Nm of peak torque output between 1750 to 2500rpm. This motor is incorporated with a multi point fuel injection supply system, which allows the vehicle to deliver about 16 to 18 Kmpl, under standard driving conditions. It is cleverly mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which helps in delivering a decent acceleration and pick up. This compact sedan can cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph in close to 15 seconds. It can achieve a top speed in the range of 150 to 155 Kmph that is quite decent for this segment.

Braking and Handling:

The front wheels are fitted with a set of disc brakes, while the rear ones have conventional drum brakes. This braking mechanism is further assisted by ABS (anti lock braking system) along with EBD (electronic brake force distribution). On the other hand, the front axle is assembled with dual path independent McPherson strut type of mechanism, which also has anti roll bar. Whereas, the rear axle comes equipped with a semi independent twist beam. It also has a corner stability control function, which keeps the vehicle stable at all times. The electric power assisted steering wheel supports a minimum turning radius of 5.1 meters. This tilt adjustable steering wheel is speed sensitive and comes with an active return function.
