Duster 2015-2016 110PS Diesel RxL Explore Review
One of the illustrious automakers in the country, Renault India has launched the limited edition of its successful SUV model, Duster. Except for the additions, it includes all the features that are already existing in its RxL trim. The main change in this particular Renault Duster 110PS Diesel RxL Explore variant, is the orange accents inside the cabin and to its exteriors. Inside its air vents, seat fabrics, instrument cluster and even floor mats have orange accents. The door panels, steering wheel as well as center console are all garnished with silver. Also, it comes with gear shift indicator, Economy mode and cruise control with speed limiter. In terms of exteriors, its frontage gets a dark chrome radiator grille, smoked headlamps, front armor with driving lights and a stripe decal on hood. Its side profile looks attractive with graphics on doors and a set of dark anthracite alloy wheels, whereas the darkened chrome strip on boot lid catches all attention in its rear end. Excluding these, no other changes have been made to it. This trim carries the same 1.5-litre diesel motor, which belts out 108.5bhp power in combination with 245Nm torque. Coupled with it is a six speed manual transmission gear box that further boosts its performance. On the safety front, it includes ABS with EBD, door open warning lamp, rear defogger, central locking a few other aspects.
Exteriors:
A few changes on the outside, has given this SUV a visual appeal. The chrome radiator grille now has a darker shade, while the front armor includes driving lights. Both the striped graphics as well as character lines on bonnet makes it look attractive. There are smoked headlamps and turn indicators integrated in the headlight cluster, and the bumper has an airdam fitted to it. Also, there is a large windscreen at front with a pair of wipers. This limited edition features a whole new set of 16 inch, dark anthracite alloy wheels with orange colored surrounds. These rims are covered with radial tubeless tyres of size 215/65 R16. It has matte black B and D pillars, body colored door handles, whereas the wing mirrors are modified with an orange stripe that divides the upper and lower halves. On the other hand, its rear end features a large darkened chrome strip on the tail gate with Duster badging on it. The tail lamps give out bright light, whereas the windscreen includes a wiper and washer along with timer. Other aspects like an antenna and roof rails, gives this vehicle a sporty look.
Interiors:
There are a few revisions made to its interiors as well, which gives the cabin a unique and contemporary touch. The key change that is easily noticeable is the “Nouveau Orange” fabric upholstery. These seats are well cushioned and integrated with headrests. Comfortable seating is ensured for five people along with sufficient head and leg room. Additionally, the rear seat has split folding facility that helps to make more space for luggage. The cockpit too is designed elegantly with orange inserts on the dashboard especially surrounding its air vents and on the instrument cluster. Even the floor mats receive this color combination. The steering wheel is wrapped with fine leather and there is chrome plating on center console, steering wheel, door panels and gear knob. In addition to these, it also includes front reading lamp, rear parcel shelf with storage space, front seat back pockets, assist grips, glove box compartment and a few other such useful features that turn out useful while on journey. On the whole, this roomy cabin looks quite elegant in a two tone color scheme, high quality fabric materials and various sophisticated features.
Engine and Performance:
As this edition has no mechanical changes, it carries the same 1.5-litre, diesel oil burner that is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. It has a total displacement capacity of 1461cc and fitted with four cylinders, 16 valves. This mill is incorporated with a common rail direct injection system. On the highways, it can return a mileage of about 19.64 Kmpl and under traffic conditions, it comes down to nearly 14 Kmpl. It consumes around 12.5 seconds to cross the speed mark of 100 Kmph and achieves a top speed of 168 Kmph approximately. In terms of power and torque, it can deliver a maximum of 108.5bhp at 4000rpm and 245Nm at 1750rpm respectively.
Braking and Handling:
It is incorporated with hydraulically operated diagonal split dual circuit braking system that ensures exceptional performance. The front wheels are fitted with ventilated disc brakes and the rear ones get drum brakes. Suspension system too is highly proficient, which comprises of a McPherson strut on its front axle and a trailing arm on the rear one. Also this mechanism is assisted by coil springs, stabilizer bar and double acting shock absorbers. The electro hydraulic power assisted steering system on the other hand, guarantees excellent handling at all times. This has tilt adjustment function and even supports its minimum turning radius.
Comfort Features:
For passenger convenience, it has an air conditioning unit with heater as well. The onboard trip computer with multi information display notifies about average speed, fuel consumption, estimated range with remaining fuel and outside ambient temperature. All its windows are power operated through switches, which are illuminated. For entertainment, it is integrated with a 2-DIN music system with CD, MP3 player, AM and FM radio tuner. This unit even supports USB port, Aux-In, Bluetooth connectivity and has four speakers as well. There are front and rear 12V accessory sockets offered, while it features vanity mirror on passenger sunvisor. This trim also comes with gear shift indicator, Eco mode, cruise control with speed limiter. Other aspects like rear seat center armrest with cup holder, trunk room lamp, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and digital clock are also offered.
Safety Features:
In terms of safety, it comes with the advanced anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist. There is an airbag provided for driver, and has an engine immobilizer for preventing the vehicle from unauthorized access. Besides these, it includes speed sensitive auto door locking, driver seat belt reminder, central locking, engine protective under guard, rear defogger, and a few other aspects.
