Ciaz 2014-2017 RS ZXi Plus Review

Maruti Ciaz RS ZXI Plus is a new edition in this series that comes with minor updates to its interior and exterior facets. Starting with the interior, the company has graced the cabin with an all new black environment, adding a thrilling touch to the interiors. In addition to this, there is a new gray chrome on the I/P garnish. The exterior of the car is graced with some noticeable changes and foremost among them are the underbody spoilers all round. Also there is a decklid spoiler accompanied by an additional brake light. Apart from these cosmetics, all the other features are retained from the ZXI Plus trim. Also, this trim gets the engine and the other mechanisms same as existing versions. The car is driven by the K14B petrol engine, and it gives mediocre performance. The engine has been conditioned to meet the BS4 emission standards, enabling cleaner emissions and improved fuel efficiency. To balance the power of the engine, there are sound safety functions as well. These include reverse a parking sensor and camera, tilt steering, and a seatbelt reminder among many others.

Exteriors:

The new edition shares the basic outline of the other variants, but the company has given it minor add ons that make it visually more appeasing. Those are the lower-body spoilers for all the facets. Along with this, there is a deck-lid spoiler accompanied by a third brake light that adds to its sporty appeal. Starting with the front, it is embellished with the same chrome grille that the upper end variants have. Projector headlamps have been inbuilt into the lighting systems, giving better visibility when driving. The 16 inch alloy wheels add a vitalized look to the side profile, and this is further improved by the chrome door handles. The body colored outside mirrors come with turn indicators for safety value.

Interiors:

The interior has been re-decorated with a new black colour scheme, and gray chrome touches for a more exciting aura. Rich leather upholstery is wrapped over the seats, giving occupants a far more plush environment. Chrome is applied on the door handles, as well as the AC louvers knob. The leather wrapped steering wheel is also graced with a chrome garnish, giving the driver a more enriched feel. The AC louvers have a unique Satin finish, while the floor console and parking brake lever are treated with chrome touches as well. Beside the harmonious design, the cabin makes for utility and convenience as well. There are facilities like an outside temperature display, an illumination control, and an information display with multiple devices.

Engine and Performance:

The vehicle bears no change with respect to the mechanisms of the drive-train. It is powered by the same gasoline driven engine that displaces 1373c. The plant's working is enhanced with a VVT technology, and its cylinder head and piston design also optimize efficiency. It is integrated through the double overhead camshaft arrangement. Going into specifications, the train gives a power of 93bhp at 6000rpm, along with a torque of 130Nm at 4000rpm. The company has incorporated it with a 5 speed manual transmission, which channels the engine's power into effective performance.

Braking and Handling:

The braking, suspension and steering systems also remain the same in this new variant. The braking is augmented with ventilated discs by the front, and drum units by the rear. For the suspension, a McPherson strut is incorporated onto the front axle, while a Torsion beam guards the rear. The electric power assisted steering system also helps to improve handling and control when on the road.

Comfort Features:

A strain free experience is rendered by the car's keyless entry system, the intelligent key, power windows and the footwell lamps. The automatic air conditioning systems keeps the cabin refreshed always, and it is supported by rear AC vents and a pollen filter. Accessory sockets are present at the front as well as the rear, allowing occupants to charge devices with utmost ease. Unique for the top end variants is a Touchscreen Smartplay System, which provides high quality entertainment for the passengers. Among other highlights, there is a Navigation facility, which provides a more strain free directive for the man behind the wheel. Bluetooth allows occupants to stream music through personal devices, as well as to host calls within the car. Beside all of this, Voice command adds a touch of sophistication to the cabin. For improved convenience, the steering wheel is mounted with the audio and calling controls.

Safety Features:

The anti lock braking system is a highlight of the safety functions, for it secures control when cornering and braking. Airbags are present for both front occupants, keeping them shielded in case of mishaps. Seatbelts also form a pivotal part of the passengers' safety, and they come with pre-tensioners and force limiters for added security. The driver's seat gets a seatbelt reminder along with a buzzer. Front fog lamps and a rear defogger help to diffuse strains in the drive condition. An auto Day/Night interior mirror presents a vision of the car's surroundings always. The safety of the machine is also ordained through a security alarm and an engine immobilizer.

Pros:

1. Improved look of the cabin with black scheme.

2. Exteriors too look better.

Cons:

1. The performance has room for improvement.

2. Its safety section could use upgrades.
