MSIL has launched the hybrid version of its successful sedan Ciaz in quite a few trims. Of these, Maruti Ciaz VDI SHVS is their entry level diesel variant. It is integrated with SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology. It comes with a lithium-ion battery and helps in returning a better fuel economy. Meanwhile, its 1.3-litre diesel motor is paired with a five speed manual transmission gear box and generates 88.5bhp power along with torque of 200Nm. This sedan has striking exteriors that include a sleek front radiator grille and a wide air intake section. Its sides feature a set of steel wheels, whereas the bright tail lamps and a stylish boot lid are the styling aspects present in its rear end. On the other hand, it has a roomy internal section that is elegantly designed and incorporated with well cushioned seats. The dual tone color scheme, and fine quality plastic materials gives a decent look to its interiors. Also, it is packed with some sophisticated features like information display, air conditioning unit, tilt steering wheel, and power operated windows as well, which offers enhanced comfort to its occupants. As far as safety is concerned, it has an engine immobilizer, rear window defogger and a strong body structure that protects the passengers inside.

Exteriors:

This attractive sedan has an elegant radiator grille at front, which is treated with a lot of chrome. It includes horizontal slats and company's prominent insignia in its center. This is surrounded by a large headlight cluster that is equipped with projector headlamps and turn indicators. The bonnet features visible character lines and its windscreen is integrated with a couple of wipers. It has a well sculpted body colored bumper that is fitted with an air intake section. On the sides, it has black B-pillars, and door handles. The outside rear view mirrors are painted in body color and integrated with side turn indicators as well. Meanwhile, its neatly carved wheel arches are equipped with a set of 15 inch steel wheels. These rims are further covered with tubeless radial tyres of size 185/65 R15. Coming to its rear end, it has premium split tail lamps surrounding the boot lid, which is engraved with company's badge. The wide windscreen comes along with a defogger, whereas the bumper has a pair of reflectors. On the whole, this sedan looks quite appealing with its aerodynamic style and remarkable aspects.

Interiors:

One of the best things about this variant is its spacious interiors, which is beautifully decorated with a dual tone, black and beige color scheme. The cabin has a stylish cockpit that looks quite contemporary with some advanced aspects. It includes a well designed dashboard that is fitted with a few equipments. These include a center console and an instrument cluster, which displays several notifications. Also, it is fitted with a steering wheel, and air vents as well. Moreover, the chrome plating on AC louvers knob, door handles and parking brake lever tip further gives a rich appeal to its interiors. Besides these, it is bestowed with well cushioned seats that are covered with premium fabric upholstery. Apart from all these, the cabin also includes an illuminated console box, front and rear accessory sockets, outside temperature display, and a few other utility based aspects.

Engine and Performance:

This trim is powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine that is based on a double overhead camshaft valve configuration. It comes with 1248cc displacement capacity and carries 4-cylinders fitted with sixteen valves. This mill is integrated with a common rail fuel injection system. It generates a peak power of 88.5bhp at 4000rpm along with torque output of 200Nm at 1750rpm. A five speed manual transmission gear box is paired with this motor, which transmits engine power to its front wheels. This enables the vehicle to attain a top speed of around 155 Kmph and to accelerate from 0 to 100 Kmph in around 14 to 15 seconds. On the other hand, the firm has also offered it with SHVS technology. It comes with a lithium-ion battery and helps in returning a healthy mileage of around 28.09 Kmpl. Also, it has a brake energy recuperation system featuring an integrated starter generator.

Braking and Handling:

Handling is best ensured with the help of a power assisted steering system, which is tilt adjustable. It offers good response and ensures easy maneuverability in any road condition. In terms of suspension, its front axle is affixed with a McPherson strut, whereas the rear one is assembled with a torsion beam. Meanwhile, the front wheels are equipped with ventilated disc brakes and drum brakes are fitted to the rear ones.

Comfort Features:

Its availability with various practical features helps in increasing passenger comfort throughout their journey. It is bestowed with a manual air conditioning unit that comes along with pollen filter. Also, it has air vents in the rear cabin, which further adds to their convenience. There are all four power operated windows with auto up and down as well as anti pinch functions on driver's side. It also has center armrests with utility box at front and cup holders in the rear. Also, it is equipped with a music system that has CD player, USB connectivity along with speakers. The passenger side sunvisor has a vanity mirror, while bottle holders are also offered. Besides these, it also includes electrically adjustable ORVMs, keyless entry, electric trunk opening, speakers, illumination control and a few others that enhance their convenience.

Safety Features:

This entry level trim is loaded with several security aspects that ensure maximum protection of its occupants. It comes with the robust S-TECT body structure that offers enhanced safety. It has manual dimming inside rear view mirror, engine immobilizer, and driver seat belt reminder with buzzer. Furthermore, the list also includes security alarm, rear window defogger, driver airbag and seat belts for all occupants that ensures high level of security.
