Bolero 2011-2019 ZLX BSIII Review
Among the various models available in this company's fleet, Mahindra Bolero is one of the rugged sports utility vehicle. The company is selling it in quite a few variants, among which Mahindra Bolero ZLX BSIII is the top end trim. Its internal cabin is integrated with quite a few features such as voice messaging system, driver information system, rear wash and wipe feature. This SUV can easily accommodate seven passengers with ample leg space and head room. On the other hand, this variant is equipped with a performance packed 2.5-litre diesel engine, which comes with a displacement capacity of 2523cc. It is incorporated with a common rail based direct injection fuel supply system, which allows the vehicle to generate 15.96 Kmpl on the highways. At the same time, when it is driven in the city limits, it gives close to 12.4 Kmpl. The braking and suspension mechanism are quite efficient, which keeps it well balanced at all times. The front and rear wheels are equipped with disc and drum brakes respectively. Meanwhile, the front axle is fitted with independent coil spring, while the rear gets elliptical leaf spring type of mechanism. It measures 4107mm in length along with a total width of 1745mm and a height of 1880mm. Moreover, it has a large wheelbase of 2680mm and a minimum ground clearance of 180mm, which helps in dealing with terrains. At present, the company is selling this SUV in quite a few exterior paint options, which are Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Java Brown, Diamond White, Rocky Beige and Toreador Red metallic finish for the buyers to choose from.
Exteriors:
In terms of appearance, the frontage is quite aggressive with a bold radiator grille. It is fitted with body colored slats and a chrome plated company logo in the center. This grille is flanked by a large headlight cluster, which is powered by halogen lamps and side turn indicator. The body colored bumper has a wide air dam and a couple of fog lamps as well. The windscreen is made of toughened glass and has a pair of intermittent wipers. The side profile has been given stylish body graphics, which gives it an eye catching look. The neatly carved wheel arches have a set of 15 inch steel wheels, which are covered with full wheel caps. These steel rims are further covered with 215/75 R15 sized tubeless radial tyres, which ensures a superior grip on any road condition . The door handles and outside rear view mirrors are painted in body color. These external rear view mirrors are electrically adjustable and integrated with a side turn blinker as well. On the other hand, the rear end is fitted with a body colored bumper, which has a pair of reflectors, a radiant tail light cluster and a large windscreen as well. Apart from these, it also has a full size spare wheel with body colored cover, which is affixed at the tail gate.
Interiors:
The wood finished dashboard is equipped with a driver information system, that has a digital clock, tachometer, electronic trip meter, digital odometer, door ajar warning and driver seat belt reminder notification. Its has enough room for 7 passengers and is incorporated with well cushioned seats, which are covered with fabric upholstery. The dashboard is equipped with AC vents, glove box, an instrument panel and a three spoke steering wheel. It also has some practical features that includes front seat back pockets, cup and bottle holders, map pockets and utility space in front doors, a 12V accessory outlet and a center armrest on second row seats as well. Apart from these, this variant is bestowed with a remote fuel lid opener, body colored inside door handles, keyless entry and wood finished center console as well.
Engine and Performance:
This Mahindra Bolero ZLX BSIII trim is powered by a 2.5-litre, m2DiCR diesel engine, which comes with a displacement capacity of 2523cc. It can churn out a maximum power output of 62.1bhp at 3200rpm in combination with 195Nm of peak torque output at 2200rpm. This four cylinder based motor is coupled with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which sends the engine power to its front wheels. It allows the SUV to attain a maximum speed in the range of 120 to 130 Kmph and can cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph in close to 25.6 seconds. With the help of a common rail based direct injection fuel supply system, it can generate 15.96 Kmpl of decent mileage on the highways.
Braking and Handling:
The rack and pinion based power steering system comes with tilt adjustable function, which makes handling comfortable. This steering wheel supports a minimum turning radius of 5.8 meters. The car manufacturer has given this SUV an efficient braking mechanism. The front wheels are equipped with a set of disc brakes, while the rear wheels are assembled with solid drum brakes. On the other hand, the front axle is fitted with an independent suspension mechanism, which is further assisted by coil spring and anti roll bar for keeping it well balanced. The rear axle is equipped with an elliptical leaf spring type of mechanism as well.
Comfort Features:
The list of features include all four power windows with switches on center console, map pockets in all doors, remote fuel lid opener, rear wash and wipe function, power assisted steering system, voice messaging system and many other such aspects. It has an efficient air conditioning unit, which has a heater and it regulate the cabin air. The music system is integrated with CD/MP3 player, radio with AM/FM and speakers, which enhance the ambiance of the entire cabin.
Safety Features:
This Mahindra Bolero ZLX BSIII is the top end trim and it has an engine immobilizer, seat belts for all passengers along with driver seat belt reminder notification on the instrument panel, door ajar warning, central locking system , keyless entry and several other aspects for a stress free driving experience.
Pros:
1. Spacious internal cabin with enough leg and shoulder room.

Cons:
1. Lack of alloy wheels and ABS are big minus.
