Nissan Qashqai review

Nissan Motors India is making all attempts to earn a decent market share in the country's automobile market. It had introduced new and refreshed models last year, but they have received mixed response from the customers. Now, it is apparently planning to roll out a brand new model in India, which is going to be none other than the awesome looking, Nissan Qashqai . The manufacturer had updated this luxury model last year in terms of everything including exteriors, interiors and technical specifications. Currently, it is in its second generation and it is expected to be launched in India in coming few months. However, there is no word from the Japanese auto firm regarding its launch or price range in the country. We all know that this firm has already discontinued the X-Trail SUV from the markets. Hence, we can expect that this Qashqai SUV model will be introduced as a replacement for the aforementioned model. This second generation model is already available for sale in some of the global automobile markets. Internationally, it is available with two different petrol and diesel engine options, but it is unlikely that all four engine options will be available in India. Its petrol engines are 1.2-litre DIG-T and 1.6-liter DIG-T mills, which are going to be coupled with a six speed manual gearbox.

At the same time, the manufacturer may also offer the newly developed Xtronic automatic gearbox as an option. On the other hand, its diesel trims are available with a 1.5-litre dCi and a 1.6-litre dCi mill, which are said to be more powerful and fuel efficient than its predecessor. In terms of looks, this vehicle has a stunning appearance from both inside and out, thanks to the excellent build quality. It gets a new signature radiator grille with V-shaped chrome strip on it. At the same time, it also gets sleek headlight cluster featuring arrow shaped LED DRLs and projector headlamps. Coming to the interiors, it has a lavish seating arrangement that is designed to host five occupants. The manufacturer claims that this vehicle is longer and wider, but it gets 15mm shorter than its earlier version. Despite of reduction in height, its head room has been up by 10mm, which is surprising. This second generation version gets most of the comfort and safety aspects from its previous version. Its comfort features include an automatic AC unit, electrically adjustable seats, and a proficient infotainment unit. While protective aspects like front collision avoidance function, traffic signal recognition system and blind spot warning are a few aspects that explains about its safety levels. This vehicle has already created a history by reaching a sales mark of 2 million units in European markets in record time. Now, the manufacturer is expecting to do a decent business in India by launching this luxurious Nissan Qashqai SUV. However, the official launch is expected to happen only after a few months or during the upcoming festive season.

This upcoming Nissan Qashqai has a breathtaking exterior design that will surely grab the attention in the first instance. Its front facade has a distinctive perforated air intake section that is affixed with a V shaped chrome strip along with the company's logo. Surrounding this is the large headlight cluster that houses full LED headlamps along with daytime running lights. However, the most aggressive aspect of the frontage is the masculine dual tone bumper with edgy lower section that contributes for its aerodynamic stance. It also houses a pair of fog lamps with chrome accents on its surround. Its bonnet has a lot of curves and lines that further emphasizes its hunky appeal. Coming to the side facet, this vehicle has a unique SUV structure with curved fenders and funky window frames. It gets conventional features like body colored door handles and ORVM caps, while the B pillars gets black treatment. The manufacturer has blessed this vehicle with sturdy set of 19-inch alloy wheels and same is expected in India as well. Like the front facade, its rear end too has a masculine stance owing to its dual tone bumper that houses a metallic lower cladding. The taillight cluster has a swept back design and it houses attractive LED lights. Its slanting backward windscreen has a concave design and is accompanied by an expressive tailgate. The overall look of this vehicle is complimented by the chrome plated company's badge affixed on to the tailgate.

Exterior Measurements:

This second generation version of Nissan Qashqai has a total length of 4377mm and a decent overall width of 2070mm (including outside mirrors). Its total height stands at 1590mm, while the overall wheelbase at 2646mm, which is considerably long.

Nissan Qashqai Interior

The interiors of this yet to be launched SUV model has a pleasant internal cabin with black color scheme. It gets an up-market finish inside owing with the high quality plastic and leather material used inside. At the same time, it also gets high-gloss black accents on dashboard and door panels that further adds to its modernistic stance. Its cockpit section has a commanding driver's position featuring an easy to reach floor and center console. At the same time, all the control switches are positioned well within the reach that further adds to the driver's convenience. Its floor console houses a gearshift box that has leather cover and a lot of metallic accents. However, the most important aspect of the cabin is its seating featuring two individual seats in front cabin and bench seat at rear. They are covered with leather upholstery, but in India, the manufacturer may offer it with fabric or leatherette upholstery. Its dashboard houses a signature three spoke steering wheel that is mounted with several control buttons. Another attractive aspect is its instrument cluster that has a large multi-functional display along with a pair of round shaped analogue meters.

Interior Comfort:

Internationally, this vehicle is available in a total of four trim levels and same are expected in India with different nomenclature. Its base trim has features including power windows, electrically adjustable outside mirrors, heated door mirrors, speed sensitive electric power steering, height adjustable driver's seat, split folding rear seat, drive computer and cruise control with speed limiter. On the other hand, its top end variants are expected to feature electrically adjustable driver's seat including heating function, Thermaclear heated windscreen and an intelligent park assistance function.

Interior Measurements:

This vehicle is built to provide comfortable accommodation to at least five occupants, thanks to its long wheelbase. It also has a decent luggage volume of 430 litres, whose storage capacity can be increased further up to 1585 litres by folding the second row seat.

The remaining engines allow the vehicle to achieve a speed ranging from 173 to 190 Kmph. At the same time, they can accelerate from 0 to 100 Kmph mark in between 9.9 to 11.9 seconds.

Engine and Performance

In European markets, this vehicle is available with a total of four engine options, but for India, we can only expect one diesel and petrol mill. Its petrol variants are most likely to host a 1.2-litre DIG-T engine that is based on DOHC valve configuration. It comprises of 4-cylinders and 16-valves, which makes a total displacement capacity of 1197cc. It is incorporated with a multi-point fuel injection system for better fuel efficiency. This mill is capable of producing 113bhp of maximum power at 4500rpm that yields in a pounding torque of 190Nm at just 2000rpm. The manufacturer might offer this engine with six speed manual and an Xtronic automatic transmission option for the buyers. On the other hand, its diesel variants are expected to be fitted with a 1.5-litre dCi mill that has 4-cylinders and 8-valves. This power plant will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard that transmits torque output to the front wheels.

Like mentioned above, this yet to be launched vehicle is currently available with two petrol and diesel engine options, internationally. However, there is no information about the engine options for India. Its low range 1.2-litre DIG-T mill, which can deliver an average mileage of approximately 17 Kmpl. While its 1.6-litre DIG-T motor can give away 16 Kmpl. Coming to the diesel versions, its 1.5-litre dCi mill can give away a maximum of 26 Kmpl, whereas the 1.6-litre motor is said to produce a peak mileage of 25 Kmpl.

Whereas its 1598cc mill is capable of generating 128bhp that yields in 320Nm of superior torque.

Braking & Handling

While the rear axle gets twist beam type of suspension that further enhances the driving pleasure. In terms of braking, all its four wheels have been fitted with power assisted disc brakes, which delivers exceptional performance. At the same time, it is also integrated with an anti lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution that augments its braking mechanism. On the other hand, it is also blessed with a rack and pinion based electromechanical power assisted steering that offers precise response and simplifies its handling.
