Tata Tiago 2020-2026

Tata’s smallest car, the Tiago, has been launched in its facelifted avatar Previously, the Tiago had been given small updates that made sure the car didn’t feel behind its time, but the design had inevitably started to age. This update changes that with a much-needed refresh that brings major styling changes to the exterior and interior, making it feel more modern. There are also new features on offer, while the existing powertrain options have been carried over as it is.

If you were looking to buy a small car for city runabouts, you should definitely check out the 2026 Tata Tiago facelift, and here’s everything you should know about it before booking one:

The current Tiago was simple and neat-looking, but this facelift finally gives it the kind of visual drama modern hatchback buyers seem to expect.

The front-end has been completely redesigned and now looks heavily inspired by the Tata Altroz. The new LED headlamps are sleeker than before, the eyebrow-style DRLs add a sharper expression, and the blacked-out grille instantly makes the Tiago look wider and more premium.

The bumper, too, has been redesigned with sportier detailing and pixel-style fog lamp housings, giving the hatchback a slightly more aggressive personality than before. It no longer looks like Tata’s “entry-level car”; it simply looks like a smaller Tata.

In profile, the overall silhouette is expected to remain largely unchanged, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The Tiago’s compact dimensions have always worked brilliantly in crowded cities. However, Tata has freshened things up with new dual-tone alloy wheels, blacked-out ORVMs, wheel arch cladding and a contrasting black roof treatment that together make the car feel much younger.

At the rear, the facelift finally modernises what was arguably the oldest-looking angle of the Tiago. The new tail lamps now feature vertical LED detailing along with a connected-style treatment through a gloss-black strip between them. While the light bar itself isn’t illuminated, it visually widens the hatchback and gives it a far cleaner look than before.

Overall, this facelift does not radically alter the Tiago’s proportions, but it dramatically changes the way the car feels visually.

Step inside the cabin of the new Tata Tiago and you’ll feel a big step up from the outgoing model. The chunky dashboard design has been replaced with a flat and minimalist dual-tone treatment with the upper half of the dashboard finished in gray, and lower half in black. The floating touchscreen system sits in the middle, above the restyled central AC vents and AC control panel. Thankfully, the new AC controls still feature physical knobs, unlike a lot of new-age Tata’s which feature a very difficult to use touch sensitive control panel in their higher variants.

Moving forward, the two-spoke steering wheel has been carried over from the outgoing model, but the entire control tunnel has been revised with a piano black finish, a new rotary dial for the gear selector in automatic variant and a new wireless charging pad.

While this new design looks modern and gives the Tiago an upmarket feel, maintaining the piano black panels and keeping them scratch- and dust-free will be a hard task in our dusty environment. 

Front Seats

The front seats get a dual-tone fabric treatment with a central armrest in the middle. 

Rear Seats​​​​​​​

The dual-tone treatment of the front seats has been carried over at the rear, but the facelift brings new creature comforts for the second row passengers with a rear AC vent and rear charging ports. There are also dual seat back pockets behind both the seats, which offers better practicality to store items like your phone, tablet or magazine.

With constant updates throughout its life cycle, the Tata Tiago never felt dated in terms of its features, but as does Tata with all its new facelifts, the experience is now even better than it was before. 

The 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay has been carried over, but complementing it is a brand floating digital driver’s display. This looks much better than the older 4-inch black and white MID.

Other new additions include wireless phone chargers, rear AC vents, type-C charging ports and a 360-degree camera. Existing features like keyless entry, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, push-button start stop, automatic climate control, cruise control, and auto-fold outside mirrors have been carried over.

Safety has always been one of Tiago’s strongest selling points, especially compared to some of its rivals that often prioritise efficiency over structural confidence.

The facelift is expected to continue offering equipment like ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts and rear parking sensors

However, Tata could potentially upgrade the hatchback to six airbags as standard, replacing the current dual-airbag setup. Combined with the expected addition of a 360-degree camera, the Tiago could end up feeling significantly more premium and reassuring from a safety standpoint.

We can also expect this to be tested in Bharat NCAP & get a 5-star rating, following the footsteps of its predecessor and siblings, like a Tata!

Since the facelift does not appear to involve any major dimensional changes, the Tiago is expected to continue with the same 242-litre boot space as the outgoing petrol model.

That may not sound massive on paper, but in real-world usage, the Tiago’s boot has always been surprisingly practical for grocery runs, airport luggage and short weekend trips. The usable shape and wide opening continue to work well for an urban hatchback.

While the iCNG variants are equipped with dual-cylinder tech, making the boot usable even in the CNG guise.

The Tata Tiago 2025 is offered with a single 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine. You can opt for a petrol + CNG version as well.

This 3-cylinder petrol engine has a clattery sound. You can also feel some vibrations on the floorboard and pedals on start up and idle. The engine is fairly silent at low rpm, however it gets quite loud beyond 3000rpm. 

City Performance

I found the clutch to be light and the gear throws to be smooth enough. It is not particularly enthusiastic in nature, and rather picks up speed in a linear manner, making it best suited to a relaxed driving style. For city driving, the drivability is a highlight. You can be in second or third gear for most of the time. However, if you need a quick burst of acceleration you will have to downshift a gear or two.

Highway Performance

The Tiago is not meant for extensive highway driving. However, performance is reasonable if you choose to cruise between 70-90kmph. Progress beyond that is very slow, and the engine just gets louder taking away from the experience. Do not expect strong acceleration for quick overtakes. They will most definitely require planning and a downshift. 

Note: Tiago AMT

Tata Motors offers a 5-speed AMT in the XT and XZ variants of the Tiago. This setup is aimed to deliver convenience above all else. Gearshifts are slow and noticeable, and also accompanied with a head nod. If you press the accelerator fully, it takes a while to initiate a downshift. Also, while upshifting at the redline, the gear change isn’t particularly smooth or quick either. You can choose to lift off the throttle when you want the gearbox to upshift to make it smoother. 

Consider the AMT only if you foresee very heavy city usage daily, or just dislike driving a manual. 

Note: Tiago CNG

The Tiago CNG can start up on CNG directly — no need to start up on petrol and then switch. While the power and torque numbers are lower compared to the petrol mode, the drive experience isn’t all that different. For city commutes, you might not even be able to tell the difference between the two modes. 

From a running cost perspective, the Tiago CNG is ~ Rs 3/km cheaper than the petrol. Consider the CNG version if you foresee heavy city use and want to save on running expenses. 

In case of highway driving, especially with full passenger load and on hilly areas, the Tiago CNG will feel underpowered. It’s best to switch to petrol mode here.

The Tata Tiago 2025 is available in four variants: XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ+ 

Tata Tiago XE variant

• This base variant contains safety features such as dual airbags, ABS and rear parking sensors. 

• It gets manual air-conditioning, front power windows, a digital instrument cluster and fabric upholstery. 

• The tyre size here is smaller, at 13-inches. 

Tata Tiago XM variant

• This variant adds a basic 3.5-inch music system and two speakers. 

• Other feature additions include rear power windows, central locking and a day/night IRVM. 

• Tata offers larger 14-inch wheels from this model onwards. 

Tata Tiago XT variant

• A major highlight is the 7-inch touchscreen with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A four-speaker music system is also available. 

• The safety package is better with a reverse camera, electronic stability control, hill hold control and a rear defogger. 

Tata Tiago XZ variant

• Looks are enhanced by LED headlamps and LED daytime running lamps. 

• The infotainment experience gets better with a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a digital instrument cluster. 

• Other feature additions include an HD reverse camera, automatic climate control, automatic headlamps and wipers and auto-fold outside mirrors. 

Tata Tiago XZ+ variant

• Tata Tiago top model gets 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, front fog lamps and a rear wiper for a complete look. 

• Notable additions include cruise control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

• We would recommend you consider at least the XT variant of the Tiago car. It has a few modern day essentials and the safety package is better than lower models. 

• For those wanting a better experience, XZ or XZ+ variants can be considered depending on the budget.

The Tiago has always been one of those rare, affordable hatchbacks that felt honest. It never tried pretending to be something it wasn’t. Instead, it focused on practicality, comfort and a sense of sturdiness that many buyers genuinely appreciated.

But visually, it had started falling behind Tata’s newer generation of cars. This facelift finally fixes that.

From what we know so far, Tata seems to have modernised the Tiago without overcomplicating it. The sharper design, expected feature additions and possible safety upgrades could make the hatchback feel significantly fresher while still retaining the simple, dependable personality that made it successful in the first place.

And honestly, that balance might end up being the Tiago facelift’s biggest strength.
