Maruti to sell 1 crore units in total by March 2011

Maruti India will become the first-ever Indian carmaker to achieve a cumulative production milestone of 10 million cars by the end of this fiscal. And by that time Maruti will also complete 27 years of its operation in India. Maruti is not far away from achieving this milestone figure, as it has already sold more then 88.1 lakh cars in India.

Maruti India had recently become the first ever company to sell more then 1 million vehicles in a single year. According to Inala Veerabhadra Rao, managing executive officer (engineering), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the company is well on its way to producing over a crore cars by the end of this financial year. According to him the company will be able to achieve this target by the March next year. Maruti's most popular cars India including Maruti Alto, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti 800 and Maruti Alto accounted for 70 percent share of company's production in this period. Company has sold around almost 26 lakh M800, 13 lakh Omni, 8.5 lakh Wagon R and over 15 lakh Alto cars have been produced.

The Alto’s existing 800 cc engine has been re-tuned to meet the norms and dispatches began last Friday. The Wagon R however gets a major face lift with a new K10 series engine on a new platform. The new car will be bigger, more powerful and fuel efficient than the outgoing model, added Mr Rao.

Maruti is also launching its new Wagon R by the end of this month. The new Wagon R model has been powered with the latest K-Series engine of Maruti which is also coming in Maruti's A-Star and Ritz model.Maruti has invested Rs 290 crore for the new Wagon R, against Rs 40-50 crore for normal face-lifts.
