The Indian arm of the Czech car manufacturer Skoda Auto, Skoda Auto India Private Limited is a division of Volkswagen Group Sales India. Skoda cars first made their debut in India in November 2001 with the aim of employing the latest technology to make Skoda cars, built in accordance with the highest standards and offered at the most competitive prices. The first Skoda car in India was the Skoda Octavia, which clearly targeted India's premium segment and their first attempt fared quite well. Among the five aforementioned cars, Laura, Fabia, and Rapid are manufactured locally, while the remaining two Skoda cars are imported for sale in the Indian market.
The manufacturing facility of the Czech automobile manufacturer's Indian subsidiary is located on the outskirts of Aurangabad, and has a capacity to produce 40, 000 Skoda cars per annum. However, this plant's facilities are also shared by Audi India for the manufacture of teh Audi A4 and Audi A6. Other than the Aurangabad plant, Volkswagen India Private Limited's plant at Chakan, Maharashtra is also used to manufacture Skoda cars. Talking about Skoda Auto India's sales and service network, it comprises of 106 dealerships across 53 Indian cities. But considering its impressive growth, the decade old Skoda Auto India plans to widen their dealer network and after sales service centers in order to tend better to the demands of their customers.
