The first Nissan car that was launched in the country by this Indian wing was the brawny compact crossover SUV, Nissan X-Trail, imported via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route in India. Following the X-Trail to the Indian shores on the same CBU route over the next few years came other attractive Nissan cars like the midsize luxury car, Nissan Teana in 2007 and the ravishing sports car, Nissan 370Z in 2010. Apart from the import of its car models, Nissan India also participates in local manufacture of cars, including the likes of Nissan Micra, Nissan Sunny and Nissan Evalia, which enables it to have a pretty versatile set of choices available for its Indian buyers.


To cater to the increasing demand for Nissan cars in India, the company has set up a couple of manufacturing units in the country, one of which is located in Chennai while the other has been established in a town called Oragadam on the outskirts of Chennai. While the Chennai unit holds the potential of manufacturing 400,000 vehicles per annum, half of which it shares with the Indian arm of Renault, Renault India Private Limited, the Rs 45 billion-worth Oragadam plant, covering ground space of 650 acres, takes responsibility of producing Nissan Micra for the Indian and European market along with some other models too exclusively for the domestic car-bazaar of India. For handling other operations such as Sales, Service, Parts, Marketing and Dealer Development for Nissan in India, Hover Automobile India has been appointed, which, in coordination with 40 Nissan dealerships spanning 39 Indian cities across 17 states and 1 Union Territory, puts together a pretty decent sales and services network for the auto-major.
