Maruti Suzuki Celerio V/s Datsun Go

A low cost hatch is always a favorite among the middle class Indian family but when the choices are more than one, it does brings confusion. Though Datsun Go is an entry level hatchback and is put against the likes of Hyundai Eon and Alto K10, but it still can be compared with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, a segment above car. A brief comparison between Datsun Go and Maruti Suzuki Celerio is done on the basis of different aspects like exterior design, features, engine, mileage and price.

Exterior Design and Interior Features

Basically, Datsun Go is for first time buyers who are not looking for the extra luxurious features and just wants a vehicle that fulfills their basic need of four wheels and is fuel efficient. Keeping up the promise of bringing a hatch under Rs 4 lakh, the manufacturer cut down most of the features like CD player, Radio, Cup holder, Passenger side ORVM in base variant. Moreover, the front profile looks bold with the use of inverted trapezoidal grille while the side profile gets curve lines which add more to its looks.

Based on the Nissan Micra platform, the car features decent legroom and headroom, although the rear seats are not that comfortable. The Go hatch features mobile docking system, a first-in-class feature, that allows you to connect your mobile with an AUX cable. Folding rear bench seat and digital tachometer are also provided as standard features.

While the Celerio gets a typical Maruti Suzuki design with large air intakes and elongated headlamps. The front grille gets two bold chrome linings that runs across it. Moving to the side profile, the car features dual prominent curve line that flows right from the front fender to the tail-lamp cluster.

Inside the car, the most important feature is the automatic manual transmission which provides clutch-less driving experience along with better fuel economy when compared to the manual counterpart. Moreover, one can find the cup and bottle holder between the driver and co-driver seat, a feature missing in Datsun Go.

Engine and Mileage

Sharing the same engine specification of Nissan Micra, Datsun Go is powered by the 1.2-litre, 3cyclinder petrol engine that churns a power of 67.07bhp and 104Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to five speed manual transmission and provides a fuel-economy of 20.63kmpl.

While the Maruti Suzuki Celerio is powered by a bit smaller engine of 1.0-litre engine, though power output is same as that of Go. The engine comes with an option of five speed manual or five speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The AMT variant is 5% more fuel efficient than manual one, giving a mileage figure of 23.1kmpl.

Pricing

Datsun Go is available in four variants namely D, D1, A and T, the base variant Go D is priced at Rs 3.12 lakh and the top end variant GO T tagged at Rs 3.69lakh. Celerio being a segment above costs more. The car is made available in six variants with base variant LXI priced at Rs 3.76 lakh while the top-end variant ZXI (O) is priced at Rs 4.78 lakh, (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).

Verdict

If you are looking for a budget friendly car with minimum but essential features, then Datsun Go is best suited for you, but if you are a daily commuter and drives in busy lane, then you should definitely go with the Celerio AMT variant. The clutch-less driving will surely make your drive a fun!
