Even after 10 years of Gulf life, I was still depending on Public transport buses and Auto rickshaws during vacations. But when I felt that it is difficult to get these services after 7 pm, I started thinking of owning a car. Even though Tata Nano or Maruti 800 was more than enough for my usage, I have decided to make this purchase as a one-time investment that can be used at least 10 years with more Safety, comfort, and value for money. Initially, Suzuki and Tata were on my list and booked a Baleno by considering its boot space. By the time the Baleno arrived at the showroom, my mind changed a decided to upgraded to an automatic car and canceled the booking. Later more brands added in the review list including automatic versions of Dzire, Baleno, Swift, Ignis, Celerio, Honda Brio, Tata Tiago, WagonR, New Climber. Apart from Safety and Performance mileage was one of my considerations, but by considering my monthly driving requirement I found that by going for 5kmpl lesser mileage car it may be hardly making an additional expense of Rs300-500 only. Moreover, I was sure that with my driving style and the snaky roads I may be getting lesser mileage than ARAI mileage. Finally, the list got narrowed down to AMT versions of Swift and Dzire by considering its engine performance, Safety and value for money. The deal was finalized with Indus motors for 2018 model swift with December offer for 7.8Lakh where I got Rs 30K benefit, with a compromise on color as only white was available with dealer. Pros and cons - Even though Swift 1.2Ltr is a small engine, compared to 1.5L Automatic transmission which I use for my office use in the middle east, the new swift offers outstanding performance while pressing the gas pedal. When I need a sudden acceleration my 1.5 AMT car only makes a vroom sound but the response of New SWITF AMT is amazing. Thanks for Suzuki's new AMT transmission. The panel console gives instantaneous fuel consumption and goes above 30 kmpl in highways but the average remains at 12kmpl. I hope a major patchwork in my village's snaky road's potholes can improve its mileage to 18kmpl in the near future. The dark shaded interior looks very good in appearance. Swift ZXI comes with steering mounted blue tooth buttons for making calls on the move and rear viper an additional feature/accessory which was not in my consideration while buying a car. Aluminum finish 14" alloy wheels with front disc and rear drum brakes were not that much appealing. A dual-tone alloy wheel could have been more impressive. AMT's straight-line Gear shifting is comfortable but you may regret a missing shift lock especially when you travel with your naughty kids. If you are not careful about your hand movement the gear lever may shift from D to N at any time and you won't notice it until the car starts lowing down. Manual Drive mode may be quite confusing for beginners. The forward pushing of gear lever makes the engine to downshift(-) and backward push increases the speed(+). It seems Suzuki made the gearbox sticker before they make the AMT gearbox. In this drive by wire era, this can be corrected easily by changing the two wires. Even though Driver's seat comes with a height adjustment, but is minimal. If you are a beginner and below 5.5 feet adding a pillow may be the best option. Even for good drivers reversing will be a little bit difficult due to poor visibility around. The reverse parking sensor provides better assistance but for beginners and city drivers a camera model may be the best option.
