Safari Storme 2012-2015 LX Review

Tata Motors India has finally brought-in the much hyped SUV, Tata Safari Storme . This one is taking the Safari legacy forward for the company. Tata Motors has worked very hard on the car and made it superior in every department. The car has the same Safari platform, but has tweaked each and every section to make it a better performer altogether. This sturdy SUV has been launched in four variant. The Tata Safari Storme LX is the base variant. The 2.2 litre diesel engine under the hood is fuel efficient and is capable of churning out power and torque of 140Ps and 320Nm respectively. The five speed manual transmission coupled with the diesel mill here allows the SUV to deliver an inspiring mileage. The exteriors of the car are very sturdy and masculine. The fresh new grille on the front is blessed with new projector headlamps, while the rear has been giving a more stylish look. The sportiness character of old Safari has been retained. On the inside, the interiors have been reworked and provided with numerous high class features, starting from an efficient air cooling system with rear AC vents to multi-functional steering wheel, power windows and so on. Even the safety features in the car are impressive. You would find airbags, ABS, EBD and brake assist in here to protect the passengers.

Exteriors

The exteriors of the freshly launched Tata Safari Storme LX are just close to perfect. The sportiness and the ruggedness that you would expect from Tata are present. This makes the SUV variant purely attractive and sturdy at the same time. The car has a stylish front with projector headlamps and modish bumper. The chrome finished front grille just completes the front fascia of the car. The side profile has well-carved wheel arches fitted with bold wheels, body colored ORVMs and door handles. Lastly, when you look at the rear end of the car, the SUV has some well-finished tail lights a bit sleeker than before and much better in design for sure.

Interiors

Once you step inside the new Tata Safari Storme LX, the car comes with some nice interiors. The company has taken care of the ambiance and made it very elegant and sophisticated. The finishing done on the instrumental cluster, central console and audio system is just right . The high quality upholstery for the seats adds on to the look of the interiors. The leather wrapped steering wheel and gear-knob done with few chrome hints steals the show.  The dashboard this time has wood-accents that give it a very posh appearance integrated with a nice audio system. The speakers are highlighted with chrome, which provide the car interiors with some inspiring look.

Comfort features

The comfort level of Tata Safari Storme LX is just ideal. The car comes with so many comfort features, which leaves no stones unturned in making the ride for the passengers outstanding. The leather wrapped power steering wheel has been mounted with audio controls and the electrically handled ORVMs give more convenience to the driver. Features like remote central locking system, rear defogger and rear washer, one-touch power windows, dual air conditioning system with incorporated roof-mounted vents, comes as standard features. The front adjustable seats with headrests and armrests add on to the comfort for passengers. The seats are very relaxing and the ample of headroom and legroom for all makes it further more soothing. The boot storage space is also quite sufficient and the foldable seats give some bonus luggage space.

Engine and Performance

Under the bonnet, the new Tata Safari Storme LX comes with 2.2 litre of DiCOR diesel engine. This one has a displacement of 2179cc and keeps the ability to churn out 140BHP of power @ 4000rpm along with producing 320Nm of crest torque @ 1700 to 2700rpm. The five-speed manual transmission mated with the engine here pushes the car to deliver a decent mileage. About 14km per litre of mileage is delivered, which is quite humble for an SUV. On the other hand, the performance of this new Storme LX variant is not at all disappointing. This one is a front wheel drive and speeds up to a top speed of 160-165kmph . Also, the car doesn’t consume much of a time in touching the 100km per hour mark. The SUV takes about 15-16 seconds to go from 0 – 100kmph .

Braking and Handling

The braking and handling of the new Tata Safari Storme LX is just right. Tata Motors has certainly spend some time on these departments and made it strong enough to deal with the Indian road conditions. The strong brake system in here is responsive and very active . For the front, the car has ventilated disc brakes and the drum brakes are present for the rear . The handling precision of this new variant is average on high speed. It ensures a smooth ride on the rough and rugged Indian topography. The shock absorbers are gas-filled and the top class suspension system gobbles up maximum potholes on the roads. The suspension system comprise of Independent Double Wishbone Type with Coil Spring over Shock Absorber for the front and 5-Link Suspension with Coil Springs for the rear. Therefore, one could be rest assured for a smooth ride. However, the long turning radius of the SUV does act as a minor minus point here.

Safety Features

The safety features in the new Tata Safari Storme LX are quite nice. The brakes are very strong and active, while these are complemented with anti-lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution system and brake assist. The airbags for the driver and front passenger save them from harm during an accident. Also the body frame of the car has the power and strength to absorb maximum pressure and force in case there is a collision on road. Overall, Tata Safari Storme LX comes as a strong competitor in terms of safety features as well.

Pros

Refreshed appearance, comfortable interiors and inspiring safety features

Cons

Less mileage, high price.
