It’s not an MPV, not a sedan and certainly not an SUV, but the all new Tata Aria Prestige 4X2 is a blend of all three. It was launched by Tata Motors couple of years back with a crossover tag upon its name. In a way it’s something that is quite a new thing in Indian automobile industry. This car has many multi functional capabilities that come with great styling and performance combined together. Initially the 4X4 models were launched and it gained good recognition all over the country. After a while the 4X2 version was also launched and it had the same power and performance that was in earlier version. The outer design is very subjective and attractive. It appears as if a foreign model if one neglects to see the Tata logo. The interiors are quite spacious and the car’s dashboard has many controls plus it’s very smart and functional. Insane amount of comfort and safety features have been provided in the car. This car has a lot of potential in it but without proper strategy and planning, it has stood out to Indian customers.   

Exteriors

The exteriors of the Tata Aria Prestige 4X2 stand a bit on the edge. Some say this is a plain and boring appearance while some may find the car to be a future ready and trendy. The 17inch wheels really spark out the car. The dual barrel headlamps are something new and not seen much in the new cars and it also comes with a projector beam. There are both fog lights in front as well as in rear of car. The front gill of the car has been chromed and so is the waistline on the windows. The car comes in a total of 7 shades that are named as Night hade Black, Pearl White, Sardinia Red, Quartz Black, Arctic Silver, Arctic White and Castelle Gray. For a crossover car like this, it has overall length, width and height as 4780mm X 1895mm X 1780mm respectively. The wheelbase measures out to be 2850mm and the gross vehicle weight of the car is about 1720kgs.       

Interiors

The Tata Aria Prestige 4X2 is quite luxurious from the inside. The plush leather seats will never make anyone uncomfortable. The leather seats come in two options to choose from, they are dark graphite or plum . The dashboard is made very sophisticated. The storage space is quite flexible in the Tata Aria Prestige 4X2 as the 2nd row can be split folded while the 3rd row can be folded flat into the floor, thus making enough room for storage purposes. The inside door handles are chrome finished that further adds up to the beauty of the car. The outer mirrors are electrically adjustable and retraceable. Darkness sensing headlights and follow me home alone are the standout feature of the car. Glove box can be used for chilling purposes for your drink.

Engine and Performance

Each and every variant of the of the Aria series features a 2.2L Dicor engine which has an engine displacement of about 2179cc. This is a 4X2 drive system that packs in a lot of power and torque. The maximum power output that can be generated is about 138bhp at the rate of 4000rpm and the maximum torque output is 320Nm in the range between 1700 to 2700rpm.  The transmission system is G76 synchromesh with overdrive system. This is a diesel variant and has a double overhead camshaft mechanism. The engine gives a good boost and performance. The top speed of this car is about 152kmph and it can go from 0 to 100kmph in just 16 seconds . And the fuel tank capacity is 60 liters. Then there is also a Dual mass flywheel that reduces the vibrations to a minute level, so that the cabin inside is very peaceful.

Braking and Handling

The Tata Aria Prestige 4X2 comes affixed with disc brakes as rear brakes and the ventilated disc brakes as front brakes. The front brakes also have a twin pot caliper. The steering type has power assistance and is a rack and pinion type steering wheel. The suspension system also works like a charm and easily survives the potholes and bumps quite easily. The independent double wishbone comes with coil spring as front suspension and rear suspension comes with 5 link suspension with coil spring too. The tyres are also of great quality with 235/65 R17 type . The tyres provide a minimum ground clearance of and minimum turning radius of about 200mm and 5.6m respectively.

Safety features

From every angle, the Tata Aria Prestige 4X2 is safe. There are a total of 2 airbags, both two are in front. The frame of the car is built with hydro form technology which can be flexed to great extent and is quite stiff too. The ABS comes with EBD. An engine immobilizer has a perimetric alarm system for the security of the car. The reinforced body construction comes with hydro form chassis frame. The above safety features doesn’t sound too many but still they offer good amount of protection and safety for all the passengers of the car.         

Comfort features

This is the most talked about feature of the car. Starting with the 2 DIN music system, it has a lot of connectivity with CD/MP3, USB, AUX in cable etc. Many audio and phone controls are present on the steering wheel. It also has a total of 6 speakers spread throughout the car. Tata has also introduced a Blue connect system which allows to pair 5 phones simultaneously and with this one can play music, make calls, read messages etc by it. An ultrasonic reverse guide system is also provided for ease in parking and reversing. The air conditioner comes in dual mode and also has an automatic climate control feature. The driver seat can also adjust to certain height. Some other comfort features include rear washer, demister, keyless entry, rear wiper, remote integrated key and many more.
