Mahindra Thar DI 4x2 is the entry level variant in its model series. It is integrated with a power packed 2.5-litre diesel engine that has a displacement capacity of 2523cc. This mill can yield 63bhp in combination with 182.5Nm. It is mated with a smooth and proficient five speed manual gear box. Its braking and suspension mechanism are quite adept and keep it well balanced at all times. This utility vehicle has a large wheelbase of 2430mm along with a decent ground clearance of 187mm. It has a spacious internal cabin with wide seats that are well cushioned and provide ample leg room along with head space for all the occupants. On the other hand, this robust looking vehicle is designed with an aggressive body structure, which will certainly attract a lot of buyers. It is equipped with features like a large radiator grille, which is flanked by a round shaped headlight cluster, well sculpted bumper, external mirrors and steel wheels. It will be competing with the likes of Maruti Gypsy, Force Gurkha, Premier Rio, Tata Sumo and others in this segment. The company is offering it with a standard warranty of three years or unlimited kilometers. At the same time, the customers can also avail an extended warranty at an additional cost paid to authorized dealer.

Exteriors:

To begin with the frontage, it is designed with an aggressive radiator grille that is fitted with a few black colored horizontal slats. This is flanked by a round shaped headlight cluster, which is incorporated with halogen based lamps and side turn indicator. The black colored bumper houses a large air intake section. Its windscreen is made up of toughened glass and is equipped with intermittent wipers on it. Its side profile is designed with a single door that comes with black colored handles and external mirrors. The flared up wheel arches have been fitted with a sturdy set of 16-inch steel wheels, which have been affixed with high performance tubeless radial tyres. Its rear end gets a large tail gate for easier entry and exit of passengers and it is also fitted with a spare wheel. The black colored bumper is accompanied by a skid plate that helps in preventing the vehicle from damages. The overall dimensions are quite standard and makes it rather spacious for accommodating seven passengers with ease. Its length is about 3760mm along with an overall width of 1640mm, which includes both external rear view mirrors and height is 1904mm. Its roomy wheelbase measures about 2430mm, which ensures spacious cabin. This SUV has a minimum ground clearance of 187mm, which makes it capable for dealing with any road condition.

Interiors:

The internal cabin is incorporated with well cushioned seats that are covered with premium upholstery. These seats provide excellent space for all the passengers. The company has used good plastic material, which further enhances the look of its cabin. Engine and Performance:

This variant is fitted with a 2.5-litre diesel mill that can displace 2523cc. It is compliant with Bharat Stage III emission standards. It can churn out a maximum power of 63bhp at 3200rpm along with 182.5Nm between 1500 to 1800rpm. It carries 4-cylinders and 16-valves using a double overhead camshaft based valve configuration. This motor is integrated with a direct injection fuel supply system, which helps in generating a maximum of 18.06 Kmpl approximately on the highways and about 15.03 Kmpl within the city. With the help of a 5-speed manual gear box, it can attain a top speed in the range of 130 to 140 Kmph. At the same time, it can cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph in close to 17 seconds from a standstill.

Braking and Handling:

The front and rear wheels are fitted with a set of disc with twin pot caliper and drum brakes respectively. The drive by wire technology aids in quicker and controlled throttle response. At the same time, the LSPV (load sensing proportioning valve) brakes aid in preventing wheel lock up and loss of control. On the other hand, the company has used a torsion bar type of mechanism for its front axle, while the rear one is assembled with a semi elliptical leaf spring type of system. These axles are assisted by hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers and anti roll bar, which will help it to deal with all the jerks caused on uneven roads. The cabin is incorporated with a manual steering system, which supports a minimum turning radius of 6.28 meters.

Comfort Features:

Being the entry level variant it has almost all necessary and utility based features. It is incorporated with features like cup and bottle holders, a sleek digital clock with topper pad, a large glove box with lid side and rear foot steps and a few other such aspects. It also has an advanced instrument panel that has a number of essential functions like tripmeter, low fuel warning, instant mileage, date, time and so on.

In terms of safety, this vehicle comes equipped with numerous vital and essential safety features, which gives the occupants a stress free driving experience. Its rigid body structure comes with impact beams and crumple zones, which reduces the affect of collision.
