KUV 100 mFALCON D75 K6 5str AW Review

Introcdution:

Mahindra KUV100 is the brand new product from Mahindra to arrive here in India. Internet portals were abuzz and going gaga over every little information that surfaced from quite a few months. Now, it has officially entered the country's automobile market in more than 20 variants with petrol and diesel engine options. With this latest vehicle, Mahindra also introduced a new engine for the family of mFALCON, which are compact, powerful yet fuel efficient. Will it help the manufacturer to break into the compact segment? Let's find out.

Pros:

1. It is packed with all the essentials, which are more than what you can ask for.

2. Its refreshing exterior design with SUV cues makes it a unique product.

Cons:

1. Its fuel economy is a big let-down. Its competitors like Swift deliver better mileage.

2. Lesser interior space. Taller individuals will find it a little congested in the rear cabin.

Standout features:

1. An infotainment system with 3.5-inch display along with Bluetooth, USB and AUX-In connectivity. Also it has an in-built driver information system.

2. Power-ECO modes let you choose a driving style you desire. The Eco-mode helps in reducing fuel consumption.

Overall:

Mahindra, the Indian automotive brand is known for making rugged vehicles for Indian enthusiasts. We've seen it with all its vehicles and now, it does it again, but in the sub-compact segment. KUV100 is indeed a bold move by the manufacturer, at least in the segment where it is placed. Currently, it comes in a total of 24 variants, and we are reviewing Mahindra KUV100 mFALCON D75 K6 Plus 5STR, an upper end version in the line-up. Let's take a look into its exteriors, interiors, specifications and features.

Exteriors :

This newest micro SUV looks different unlike anything we've seen in the automobile market, or at least from Mahindra. Its front facade carries a signature radiator grille that has a strong resemblance to the XUV500. Adorned with the company's insignia, this grille makes a bold statement. On either side, the headlight cluster has a typical design that flows on top of the fenders. It also houses a thin strip detailing that renders a distinct look. But the massive bumper is the thing that really gives it an intimidating look. Its sides however, have a more feminine touch with neat curves and creases. Its second row doors get Beat-like door handles and it comes in a metallic finish. There is an extensive use of plastic all around making it look sportier than conventional hatchbacks. The window sills, roof ski-racks and B pillars are all done-up in black. But the big let-down comes in the form of smaller wheels, which makes it look embezzled. The rear profile looks even different, but in a positive manner. It has everything that can engage the onlookers. Be with its rear spoiler, typical light clusters dual-tone bumper or beautifully carved boot-lid, this car grabbed our attention in the first sight. The overall design of the car is not ground-breaking nor it is awful, it scores well with its perfect build, neat curves and SUV proportions.

Interiors:

We at Cardekho felt that the interior of KUV100 has a decent build quality unlike other hatchbacks of today. We have to credit the company for its extraordinary work done with respect to the interiors. Soon after stepping inside, you'll notice the stylish dashboard with extensive metallic and piano black accents. However, the interior color scheme looks cheap and may fail to attract young buyers. This is a five seater trim with two individual seats in the cockpit and bench seat in the second row. Coming as a next-in-line trim to the top end variant, this K6 Plus is loaded with tons of features on board. It features list includes an infotainment system with 3.5-inch display, multi-functional steering wheel, height adjustable driver seat, power windows on all doors and rear defogger, which ensures great comfort experience to the occupants.

Performance :

In our opinion, this diesel version of KUV100 performed just as expected. Under the hood, there lies a 1.2-litre mFALCON D75 oil-burner, which is perhaps the smallest diesel mill in Mahindra's family. It produces 77bhp of maximum power at 3750rpm along with a torque of 190Nm at 1750 to 2250rpm. We have to admit folks, the drivability on city roads is perfect. However, it runs out of breath on open roads. But the fact is that it feels relaxed even at the 100 kmph mark. Its top speed clocked at 130 kmph with three passengers on-board. This diesel version also gets Eco-power modes, which can change the characteristics of the motor. The transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox and shifting between gears had no problems whatsoever.

Ride and Handling:

This car has an Independent McPherson Strut layout with dual path mounts at front and semi-independent twist beam type of arrangement at the rear. With this suspension mechanism, the car can easily deal with the rough and rugged roads of India. Additionally, presence of coil springs and gas filled shock absorbers can offer jerk-free traveling experience. We felt that the steering is light and easy to operate, which is a positive factor. You can single handedly maneuver the car at tight corners and parking spaces, which is indeed a good thing. The braking mechanism on the other hand comes with disc and drum braking combination, which is fine for a city car. Inclusion of anti-lock braking system and electronic brake-force distribution is another relieving factor.

Safety:

Although it doesn't have the ground-breaking features, safety levels of KUV100 are indeed a sigh of relief for an average customer. It gets ABS with EBD as standard fitment along with a set of dual front airbags. This vehicle gets segments best-in-class features including speed sensing automatic door locks, anti-theft alarm system and automatic hazard warning lamps on panic braking. Presence of engine immobilizer will offer protection from theft. There are few other features like collapsible steering column, child safety locks on rear door and anti-slip clips for driver side floor mats.

Verdict:

If you are looking for a car with decent features, better mileage and looks, then KUV100 K6 plus is the car for you. Its 6.6 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag seems to be a bit expensive, but this car has everything that you can ask for thus justifying its price tag. Also, it has distinctive styling unlike any of its nearest rivals. However, it comes with a little lows in the form of poor interior color scheme, low cabin space and harder seats, which is really uncomfortable. Another factor is that the after-sales network is not as sound as Maruti or Ford in India. Apart from these niggles, its really a good car to go with.

Mahindra need to keep up customer satisfaction

I bought a KUV100 K2 petrol Variant. I have bought the car May-19-2017 from Srieesh Auto Bangalore and been using the car since then. As far car design is really good and good control/pick-up. My car, getting out-side foul smell while AC is on and has rattling noise heard from inside at low speed, which is bad. At high speeds, the car goes smooth. The major problem is mileage where as I am getting only 10 km/ltr, which was informed to the dealer and it was told to me after 1st service it will get rectified. I travel nearly 50-55km every day. I bought this car seeing all reviews on multiple web sites, and took a decision thinking Mahindra had taken a bold decision to trust Indian Engineers and also can resolve these issues. As many customer has complained of mileage issues, and some customers also said it got rectified, keeping that I decided to go for kuv100 k2. While giving for 1st service it was intimated to service centre of Srieesh auto Marthahalli Bangalore, about mileage, foul smell entering in and few other problems too and they said they require the car to be left for 2 day to rectify all issues. But in 2 days I had to spend nearly Rs.2000 for commuting by ola/uber taxies. But I was in the impression that all problems gets rectified, but it was in wain. But after 1st service, mileage has not changed, it remained with 10km/ltr on city, I had followed all instructions of driving as they had said, as this is not my 1st car and I have been driving the cars past 25 years, earlier I had Maruti Alto and it was 8 year old vehicle and I was getting 17km/ltr as an average full tank to full tank. But whereas other Alto car owners and service centres was claiming you cannot get more then 14-15km/ltr. I am telling Mahindra to know that I knew how drive. Foul smell they said they need to remove dash board but, even that was not rectified. And there are other problems which are also not rectified. The problem in the car can be rectified if Mahindra has given proper training to its service engineers and proper quality assurance people in the plant, i know this is totally irresponsibility of quality personal who have not checked the car before it is out from plant. Quality is not just 6sixma or any certificate quality courses pass out, it need to come from heart to see that we Indians are not making fools of our own brothers/ sisters. Nevertheless, the car looks good, the drive is also good. The gear shift is also very smooth and useful. But that is it. The windscreen also takes a lot of glare in the night which makes the driving at late hours uncomfortable. Headlights are also not focused well. I will recommend this car provided Mahindra puts a proper quality output and speedy action for rectifying the issues, by giving proper training and responsible.Read More

Best 4 wheeler with stylish SUV look

I bought it last year on 10/04/2016 and till now I am very very happy with this Mahindra product. It's look will beat other cars of same price range on upcoming years also. Writing few pros and cons over here - Pros : Dominating look. Good ground clearance. Stable in high speed too. Using dashboard joystick like gear is fun. 3 people sitting space in front. AC cooling is impressive. Cons : Diesel model gives 16km/h mileage in city. Company claims 25km/h. Driver seat space is less than required. Mahindra after sales service sucks. It's a Car, It's a Mini SUV, No It's KUV100

Well to be honest i did a research on every model possible within my budget i came across maruti suzuki swift, ford figo, datsun go and kuv100. Swift's price went above my head. Vxi model doesn't have ABS and airbags and the price is whooping 6.5 lkhs i mean seriously??? For the next one we went to ford showroom. The moment we entered we came across shoutings and verbal abuses between a customer and a manager. The customer told us not to go for ford cars as they bought a fiesta but since three months unable to get papers of the vehicle. Datsun go is a nice car. Unfortunately the service station is not available in my area. So eventually opted for KUV100. I am not a rich guy who can afford k8 model within my budget we could afford only k4+ features(airbags,ABS,central lock, power windows).5.80 lkhs inclusive of taxes. People complained of vibration but i couldn't notice. The body is rock hard feel of an suv when you drive. Lots of ample space, and an uncommon design which gives a feel of SUV, went to few long drives and it was smooth as butter. The roads had potholes and quite rough but the suspension was quite comfortable. Horn was a bit meek but after tuning a bit now it's much better and the mileage is not that good compared to the competetors. Mine gives 18 on highways and 14 in city with A.C. I am satisfied with my vehicle. The showroom guys were nice they helped us in the best way possible. Guys there are pros and cons in every vehicle and each car is designed to meet demands for each customer. So just check what your needs are and dont follow maruti just because everyone is buying it. Youngest in the race....

Each car needs to meet certain requirements and definitely the KUV100 fulfil it. A Premium car should have superior craftsmanship to attract customers, a good engine capacity for great performance and have lots of storage space to score high on practicality. This is all fulfilled by the KUV100. The Mahindra automobile industry always have tricks up their sleeve to expand the their customer base. The latest entrant KUV100,an SUV that want a share of hatchback market. The Kool Utility Vehicle(KUV) is mahindra's newest and the most compact passenger they have ever made. INTERIORS- Interior is smart and offer good fit and finish.grey dash and door feature silver as well as piano black inserts.Dashboard is smart and split in two sections. The design is simple but striking. The steering wheel is chunky and made well to get a superior grip. The KUV100 is surprisingly spacious vehicle in this size. The centre seat of back seat folds up and act as a armrest for passenger and provide two cup holder.the entire passenger seat folds and gives access storage compartmentThe 3.5 inch music display system could do with an overhaul but it fits in the floating dashboard perfectly. I wish to check with Mahindra if there are any aftermarket options available for the infotainment system, preferably an Apple CarPlay system that I can install at a later date. The cooled glove compartment is a fancy addition which doesn't serve much purpose practically. The sunglass holder on the top near the car night lamp is a cool addition too. EXTERIOR- Parking sensors & reverse cameras are another point of concern seeing as they are not available even in the top end K8 model and have to be installed aftermarket. Exteriors:- The exteriors impress you quite a lot. The design looks more stylish and premium. The LED lights also give you a clearer view at night. The pillar mounted rear door handels are similar to chevrolet beat.Top variant alloy wheels as standards. The rear end is quite smart with rectangular tail lamp.the lower section of bumper isnot colored giving it a dual tone appearence. The bumper is equipped with fog light. The front track is wider than other cars which gives the vehicle ythe added appearence. SAFETY- You are in safe hands if you are travelling in the KUV100 as you have almost all the safety features such as ABS, EBD and BA. KUV get an amazing airbag system which is available only in the higher models. Drive Quality and Performance- Start your engine and enjoy a very smooth and comfortable ride. The engine is quite silent and delivers a good amount of power. The ride quality over bumpy road surfaces is a very smooth glide.17 kmpl is delivered in the city roads and about 20 kmpl in the highway in the both fuel options.which does not fit well in the character. My Conclusion:- In my opinion, The KUV100 is an awesome and kool product, which Mahindra India has brought out, which captures all elements for a car in hatchback and suv.Overall it is an amazingly made car from Mahindra that might cause some creases in the hatchback cotegory.Read More

    The little beast

This is the best family car in the budget of less than 6 lakh in diesel i will list both the pros and cons as per my experience with the car pros. 1.This has best in class cabin space in the segment best suitable for family even of five adults or 4 adults and 2 kids . 2. Legroom for both front and rear is luxurious you can travel a long distance without getting tired . 3.Dash board durable and classy as the top part is grey and is convenient to utilize the black piano on the front gives it the edge of being a premium car. 4.The height of car gives enough head room for a 6 ft tall person also to drive comfortably . 5. Air conditioning is super cool and you dont get that complain from rear guy of not getting the effect of air conditioner on back seat even without rear vents and driver and co passenger are also not compromised . 6.Biggest king size arm rest cum mini bar in front due to the 6th seat feature you dont get it more luxurious even in luxury sedans. 7.Sixth seat the most talked about feature is very much useful when you have that need to adjust that one little passenger going with family on marriages and relatives . 8. ABS EBD as basic feature in all model makes it perfect for safe driving on highways so safety first has been kept well in mind by the company 9. Choice of adding Air bag in all models with a Fees of 30000 Rs can be termed as flexibility in safety as with increasing speeds on highways now a days it becomes a necessity 10.Space management in terms of extra spaces for storage and management of hand brake 11. Extremely comfortable Gear console and its positioning with hand rest it makes you sit back and enjoy long tedious rides in a comfortable way 12. Great after sales service quality of mahindra . 13. Suv looks give a sense of satisfaction to family person looking for value for money as well as style. 14. Dispaly of gear car is driven in front meter is good for new drivers comfort. Cons 1.Single din audio option in k4 and below models lead to sub standard dash board after music system installation 2.No tray in trunk in lower model although not that important but it wouldnt have cost much to the company. 3. Smaller trunk room compare to class although trunk room is a rarely used feature and does not add much value 4. Some more length could have made it more attractive it seems like designer suddenly wrapped it as they were getting late on their schedule. 5 Low mileage before first service this is a vary negative shortcoming as it lead to bad word of mouth publicity in initial phase leading to rejection in comparison to competition . verdict- value for money feature loaded spacious family car kudos to mahindra for coming with so much of innovation in their first small car and petrol car.Read More
