i20 Active 1.4 SX with AVN Review

The Hyundai i20 active is among the popular vehicles of the Indian car market, and among the variants it is offered with, there is the Hyundai i20 Active 1.4 SX with AVN . This is the new top end variant, which is available with an advanced infotainment system as standard. Starting with the exteriors it has a streamlined shape that makes for a good look. Attractive design elements like chrome accents, body cladding and high gloss effects together endow it with a good look. Coming to the interiors, the seat arrangement makes for apt space for the occupants. A front center armrest is present, along with adjustable headrests at the front and rear. This variant has an advanced supervision cluster that consists of a steering position reminder, a service reminder and a parking sensor display as well. There is an indicator for an ajar door, tailgate, gear shifting, low fuel and a reminder for the driver's side belt. An indicator is also present for changing lanes. Coming to the heavier side, this variant is powered by a 1.4-litre diesel engine that displaces 1396cc. The working of the engine is guided by the presence of a 6 speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, its safety is enforced with the aid of airbags, seatbelts, parking sensors and many other strong facilities.

Exteriors:

Coming to the exteriors of the car, there is a black grille at the front with chrome surround. On either side of this, there are stylishly modeled headlamp clusters. The company has incorporated them with projector type lights, cornering lamps along with LED DRL and positioning lamps for added safety. The dual tone bumper is also an impressive element of the front facet that features a lower skid plate. Coming to the side profile, this variant is graced with 16 inch diamond cut alloy wheels that accentuate its trendy status. The black waistline molding is also a notable ingredient in its exterior format. Also adding flavor to its image is a black out tape upon the B pillar, and a high gloss finish for the C pillar. The outside mirrors are body colored, and complete with turn indicators for added safety. This variant gets the exclusive benefit of chrome outside door handles. Furthermore, the body cladding on the side facet and on wheel arches enhance its sporty look. Coming to the car's tail section, a dual tone bumper is present, which is fitted with a skid plate. One can also see the rear roof spoiler that emphasizes the car's sporty theme.

Interiors:

There is a color combination of aqua blue and tangerine orange, which makes for an enjoyable drive environment. The driver gets the benefit of a sporty designed leather wrapped steering wheel, along with a leather wrapped gear knob. The instrument panel is cleverly designed, and it comes with blue interior illumination. Sporty aluminum pedals further add quality to the interior design. A rear parcel tray is also present for the convenience of the passengers. Map pockets are present at the front and rear doors, allowing for storing spare things. A sunglass holder makes for holding shades without damage. A center armrest console is present for the front row, and it comes along with a storage compartment as well.

Engine and Performance:

This car is fitted with a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine under the hood. It consists of 4 cylinders and 16 valves integrated through the DOHC configuration. This 1396cc engine is capable of producing power output of 89bhp at 4000rpm, together with a torque of 220Nm at 1500rpm to 2750rpm. It is paired with a 6 speed manual transmission that enables smooth shifting of gears and enhances performance.

Braking and Handling:

For the front wheels, there are disc brakes, while drums are present for the rear wheels. Coming to the suspension system, the front axle is integrated with a McPherson strut, while the rear axle gets a coupled torsion beam axle. Both of them are further fitted with coil springs for improved handling quality. At the same time, Gas type shock absorbers help in eliminating ride hassles and promoting a comfortable driving experience.

Comfort Features:

This variant is now fitted with a touchscreen infotainment system that supports audio, video and navigation system. The system also has a radio unit along with a CD player facility and several other connectivity features. Additionally, there is a 1GB internal memory is incorporated that enables users to store their audio files. The car has power windows with a time lag function, along with an an auto up/down function and pinch guard protection system. Furthermore, a map lamp is present at the front, along with a theater dimming central room lamp and a luggage lamp as well. The outside mirrors are electrically adjustable, and also have electric auto folding functions. A battery saver makes for reduced energy loss when driving. The fully automatic air conditioning system comes with a cluster ionizer and AC vents at the rear for enhanced drive ambiance. There are two power outlets, giving passengers the convenience of charging devices within the car. A push start/stop button relieves hassle for the driver.

Safety Features:

First, the anti lock braking system adds to the control quality when braking and cornering. Airbags are present for both front passengers, shielding them in case of mishaps. A parking assist feature is present with reverse parking sensors and a rear camera that provides visual aid through an ECM display. There are automatic headlamps that come with an escort function and fog lamps for added visibility when driving. A central locking system is present for the doors and the tailgate, blending safety with comfort. This goes along with a keyless entry system, which is present along with a smart key. There is a facility that automatically unlocks the doors upon sensing an impact. Electro-chromic interior mirrors provide occupants with a full view of the car's surroundings. Beside all of this, a defogger is present at the rear, along with a dual horn and an immobilizer that secures the vehicle's safety. Lastly, a smart pedal is also present for added security when driving.
