i10 LPG Review

Hyundai i10 is one of the most popular hatchbacks in the country and was rolled out in 2007. The hatchback has been appreciated throughout the world for its power, performance and mileage. The car was launched in the Indian market in order to fill the space between Hyundai Santro and Hyundai Getz. This small car showed the world that Hyundai car can deliver on quality, performance and style. Hyundai i10 has got a huge fan following, won several awards and is a joy to drive. In 2010 company rolled out a face lifted model of i10 in the market, with a redefined engine and a number of cosmetic changes both in the interior and the exterior, and named it as the ‘Next Gen i10’.  At present the car is available in 9 petrol variants and 2 LPG variants. Hyundai i10 Era LPG is affixed with a 1.1 L IRDE2 engine which is extremely fuel efficient and produces a decent amount of power and torque. The Next Gen i10 features all new front grille, new headlamps, tail lamps, and bumpers at the exterior while in the interior of the car are more or less same like the previous model but gets new color combination for the upholstery. With all such features and affordable price, i10 has given a tough competition to all other hatchbacks present today in the Indian market.

Exterior

Hyundai i10 is equipped with range of new age features both in the interior and the exterior. Hyundai introduced an all new front design inspired by the Fluidic Sculpture design language. At the front centre the car has a new radiator grille which features chrome detailing. It also boasts nice clear headlamps which stretch along the hood with multi reflector chrome surround fog lamps. At the side the car has body line molding; the ORVMs are added to the turn indicators like most other luxury cars. The rear of the car has nothing much but still the addition of new tail light and the new bumper has improved the rear look a lot, event the conservatively placed boot lid lever appears fashionable. In addition to all this the car has black plastic moldings at the front, side and rear which makes it a pleasurable spectacle for eyes. This five seater hatchback has   a length of 3565mm, width of 1595mm and a total height of 1550mm. The wheelbase of the car is 2380mm and a ground clearance of 165mm .

Interior

The interior of Hyundai i10 are just as appealing as the exterior. The car has a two tone beige and light brown color in certain markets. To give it more appealing look, the interior has been accentuated with chrome and silver accents at multiple points. The dash of the car has a grey hue with all necessary elements affixed like the instrument cluster which includes the speedometer, tachometer etc. which are illuminated in blue so easy to read. The gear shift lever which is housed on the centre console has provided ample of space at the front floor which has been utilized smartly by endowing it with useful storage spaces and cup holders. In the infotainment section the car has a stereo player with Bluetooth connectivity that enables wireless connection with devices of your choice while the USB and AUX port enables plugging in portable devices such as iPod, MP3, mobile phone etc .

Engine and Performance

The car is powered by iRDE2 in line engine that comes with a displacement of 1086cc . The 4 cylinder engine has a total of 16 valves in DOHC configuration . The engine produces 68bhp of maximum power at the rate of 5500rpm and 99Nm of torque at the rate of 4500rpm. The power and the torque generated by this hatchback are good enough to accelerate the car from 0-100kmph in 16.27 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 144kmph. The car is also extremely fuel efficient and delivers a mileage of 14kmpl in the city and goes up to 19kmpl on the highway. The car has a fuel tank capacity of 34 liters so that you can travel a distance of 578kms without refueling once full tank. The Alternator Management System (AMS) controls delivery of power to the battery. The car also comes with petrol to LPG shift that offers the customers a unique combination performance and unmatched fuel economy.

Braking and Handling

The brake mechanism of the car includes the ventilated disc brakes at the front while drum brakes at the rear , with this the car can decelerate the car from 0-100kmph in just 4.1 seconds. To avoid any bumps, vibrations and noises on the road the car has an effective suspension system to provide a comfortable ride. In the front the car has McPherson strut with coil springs while at the rear the car has compound link crank axle. The handling is by the power steering with tilted column. And to further improve the performance the engine is mated with a 5 speed manual transmission that readily falls in to hand. Hyundai i10 has tubeless radial tyresof size 155/80 R13.

Safety Features

Hyundai i10 incorporates a lot of safety features to ensure the safety of the driver and the passenger. Some of the standard ones are Central locking, power door locks, child safety locks, day and night rear view mirror, passenger side rear view mirror, rear seat belts and impact beams. The advanced ones include the Halogen headlamps, door ajar warning, engine immobilizer, centrally mounted fuel tank and engine check warning.

Comfort features

Hyundai has taken full care to provide enough comfort to both driver and passengers. For the convenience of the driver the car has features like power steering, front power windows, remote trunk and the fuel lid opener, low fuel warning light and height adjustable seat belts.
