Verna 2016-2017 1.6 VTVT AT SX Review
Arguably, the Hyundai Verna is one of the most versatile cars in its segment, given the sheer number of powertrain combinations available. However, if you are looking at the petrol automatic, the number of options boils down to two, i.e. the AT S and the AT SX. Priced at Rs 10.67 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi, as of 8 May, 2017), the Hyundai Verna 1.6 VTVT AT SX sits one rank below the top-spec model. Compared to its manual counterpart it commands a premium of around Rs 81,000.
To begin with, the Verna comes with dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. It also gets a rear camera with the display on the infotainment screen and, like the S grade, rear parking sensors too. It spruces up the package further with the addition of front fog lamps. Suffice it to say, the Verna AT SX is quite loaded on the safety front.Outside, while the S grade gets 15-inch alloy wheels, the SX gets 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with a 2-tone finish. It also ditches the micro-antenna for a shark-fin radio aerial. Step into the cabin and you find that electrically folding mirrors have been added to the kitty, while the front seatbelts are now height-adjustable. The biggest change, though, is the addition of a touchscreen audio-video-navigation system. Even the sound system is more comprehensive with the addition of a front tweeter to the standard 4-speaker setup.
Powering the Verna 1.6 VTVT AT SX is a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 123PS of power and 155Nm of torque. The motor comes paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox and Hyundai claims the car can manage a fuel efficiency of 15.74kmpl. For reference, that is 1.27kmpl less than the equivalent manual variant of the Verna.The Hyundai Verna petrol AT goes up against the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid.
