Creta 2015-2020 1.6 CRDi SX Review

HMIL has finally introduced its much awaited sports utility vehicle, Creta in the market. Built on the platform of Elite i20 hatchback, it takes the design inspiration from company's fluidic 2.0 Philosophy. The top end trim in its diesel engine based lineup is Hyundai Creta 1.6 CRDi SX. This trim has eye catching exteriors along with a spacious internal cabin. To begin with its outer appearance, it has the signature radiator grille, well sculptured headlight cluster, body colored bumper and many other such aspects. On the other hand, the designers have done a fabulous job in giving the internal cabin a stylish look. It is incorporated with almost all such features, which gives the occupants a pleasurable driving experience. It has a driver oriented cockpit, where all these features are ergonomically designed and easy to reach. Its dashboard is equipped with several aspects like chrome accentuated AC vents, an advanced infotainment system with touchscreen display, a four spoke steering wheel with multifunctional switches and so on. Apart from these, in terms of safety this variant is packed with a lot of advanced features including dual airbags, central locking system, smart parking assist system, seat belts for all occupants and an advanced engine immobilizer. All these features put together makes it one of the good looking and comfortable vehicles in its segment. This vehicle is going to compete against the likes of Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio, Nissan Terrano, Ford Ecosport and others in this segment.

Exteriors:

The frontage has a rugged looking radiator grille, which has chrome and is embossed with a company insignia. The headlight cluster is integrated with high intensity lamps and side turn indicator. The bonnet looks quite attractive with visible character lines on it. Just below this is a body colored bumper that is fitted with a wide air intake section for cooling the powerful engine quickly. This air dam is flanked by a pair of round shaped fog lamps. Furthermore, it has a large windscreen that is made up of toughened laminated glass and is equipped with a couple of intermittent wipers. Coming to its side profile, the company has designed it with a few strong character lines and chrome plated door handles. Its ORVMs are electrically adjustable and are integrated with side turn indicators. There are also roof rails available with silver finishing that gives it a sporty appearance. The neatly crafted wheel arches are fitted with a modish set of 16 inch alloy wheels, which are further covered with high performance tubeless radial tyres of size 205/65 R16. The rear end has a large boot lid that further includes the company's emblem and a thick chrome strip on it. It also has a wraparound tail light cluster that features halogen based reverse lamps and brake lights along with turn indicator. It has a sporty rear spoiler that is fitted with a high mounted stop lamp, which not only adds to its appearance, but also enhances the safety quotient.

Interiors:

The dual tone color based cabin is complimented by a lot of chrome inserts all around. It has well cushioned seats that are ergonomically designed and covered with fabric upholstery. The driver's seat can be adjusted electrically, while the rear seats are foldable and comes with proper lumbar support. It has other standard features like puddle lamps, rear center arm rest with cup holders, automatic headlamp leveling device, sun visors with vanity mirror, sun glass holder, an inside rear view mirror with anti glare function and smart key with push button start. At the same time, the use of fine quality leather to wrap its four spoke multi functional steering wheel as well as the gear shift knob gives the cabin a decent look. It has a smooth dashboard that is equipped with a few aspects like an advanced instrument panel with lots of functions, a multi-functional steering wheel, AC vents and an illuminated glove box with cooling effect. Apart from these, it also has a couple of power outlets for charging accessories like mobiles and other electronic devices.

Engine and Performance:

This variant is powered by a 1.6-litre diesel engine, which comes with a displacement capacity of 1582cc. It is integrated with four cylinders and sixteen valves using a double overhead camshaft based valve configuration. This engine has the capacity of churning out a maximum power of 126.3bhp at 4000rpm in combination with a peak torque output of 259.8Nm between 1900 to 2750rpm. This engine is coupled with a six speed manual transmission gear box, which sends the engine power to its front wheels. It enables the vehicle to attain a top speed in the range of 180-185 Kmph and can accelerate from 0-100 Kmph in close to 11-13 seconds. With the help of a common rail based direct injection fuel supply system, which can generate a decent fuel economy of 14 to 18.5 Kmpl.

Braking and Handling:

Its front wheels are equipped with a set of ventilated disc brakes, whereas the rear wheels get conventional set of solid drum brakes. This braking mechanism is further assisted by anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution. On the other hand, its front axle is assembled with a McPherson strut, while its rear one is fitted with a multi-link type of mechanism. It has a responsive power steering with flex steering function that helps in customizing the steering wheel according to the driving style of the person.

Comfort Features:

One of the most important features is the presence of an efficient dual zone air conditioning system, which has fully automatic temperature control function and rear AC vents too. For enhancing the ambiance of its cabin, it is bestowed with an advanced stereo unit that features CD/MP3 player, USB interface, Aux-in port along with six speakers and Bluetooth connectivity for pairing the mobile phones. It also has a touchscreen display, which provides various information for convenience. It is being offered with direct control of audio and calls, which are mounted on a multi-functional steering wheel along with the cruise control button. Apart from these, it also has electrically adjustable driver seat, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, auto foldable outside rear view mirrors, front center armrest with storage box and many other such aspects.

Safety Features:

For a stress free driving experience, the car manufacturer has incorporated this top end variant with a lot of protective aspects. It is being offered with dual front airbags that enhances the safety in case of a collision. It also has a ISOFIX point that adds to the safety quotient. The presence of an advanced engine immobilizer prevents the vehicle from theft and any unauthorized entry. The three point seat belts are given for all passengers, wherein front seat gets height adjustable belt. It is equipped with anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution and emergency brake assist system, which enhances the braking mechanism of the vehicle.
