Jazz 2014-2020 1.2 VX i VTEC Review

Honda has launched its much anticipated hatch, Jazz in the Indian car market. It comes with an aerodynamic body structure along with attractive front, side and rear profile. This hatchback is introduced with both petrol and diesel engine options in several variants for the buyers to choose from. Among them, Honda Jazz 1.2 VX iVTEC is the top end petrol trim. Its engine is based on single overhead camshaft based valve technology and coupled with a five speed manual transmission gear box. The braking and suspension are quite efficient and keeps it well balanced at all times. In terms of its external appearance, its frontage is designed with a bold radiator grille that is fitted with a thick black strip. It also has a well designed headlight cluster, a body colored bumper, fog lamps and so on. It has a spacious internal cabin, which has well cushioned seats, a smooth dashboard with a lot of features and several utility based aspects. It also has an advanced instrument panel with various dials and meters for keeping the driver updated. This model series gets a standard warranty of two years or 40000 Kilometers. It is going to compete against the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Swift, Fiat Punto EVO, Volkswagen Polo and others in this segment.

Exteriors:

Starting with the frontage, this hatchback has a bold radiator grille, which is fitted with a thick black strip. It is embedded with a prominent company insignia in the center. This grille is flanked by a well designed headlight cluster that is incorporated with high intensity halogen lamps and side turn indicator. It has a couple of character lines on the bonnet that creates a dynamic look. The body colored bumper is fitted with a wide air dam that is flanked by a couple of bright fog lamps. The large windscreen is accompanied by a couple of intermittent wipers. Its side profile is sleekly designed with some character lines, body colored outside rear view mirrors and door handles. These ORVMs are electrically adjustable and fitted with side turn indicator. While it's B-pillar are in black finish that enhances the look of its side profile. The pronounced wheel arches are fitted with a set of alloy wheels, which are further covered with high performance tubeless radial tyres. Its rear end is neatly crafted with a curvy boot lid, which is embossed with variant badging a chrome strip. It also has a body colored bumper, radiant tail light cluster with halogen based lamps along with turn indicators and a large windscreen with defogger.

Interiors:

The internal section comes in a dual tone color scheme and is incorporated with a number of refined features for its classy look. It has a smooth dashboard that is equipped with features like a large glove box, an illuminated instrument panel, 3-spoke steering wheel with silver accents and AC vents. The cabin is quite roomy and can accommodate five passengers with ease. It comes with ergonomically designed seats, which are covered with black fabric upholstery. These seats provide ample leg room for all passengers. It has a spacious boot compartment, which can be increased with the help of split foldable rear seat. Apart from these, the company has also given a lot of utility based aspects like cup and bottle holders, seat back pockets, all four power windows with driver side auto down function and many other such aspects for convenience of its occupants.

Engine and Performance:

Under the bonnet, this variant is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which comes with a displacement capacity of 1198cc. It carries four cylinders and sixteen valves using a single overhead camshaft based valve configuration. This petrol mill can unleash a maximum power of 88.8bhp at 6000rpm in combination with a peak torque output of 110Nm at 4800rpm. It is cleverly mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which sends the engine power to its front wheels. It is incorporated with an advanced fuel injection supply system, which allows the vehicle to deliver a decent fuel economy under standard driving conditions.

Braking and Handling:

The front wheels get a set of disc brakes, while rear ones have been equipped with a conventional set of drum brakes. This braking mechanism is further assisted by anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution, which prevents it from skidding especially on slippery roads. On the other hand, its front axle is assembled with a McPherson strut, while rear one has been fitted with a torsion beam type of mechanism. Both these axles are accompanied by coil springs for a comfortable driving experience. Its internal cabin is incorporated by a motion adaptive electronic power steering system, which is quite responsive and makes it easy to handle even in peak traffic conditions.

Comfort Features:

This top end variant has a lot of advanced features, which gives the occupants a pleasurable driving experience. It is blessed with the latest AVN (audio video navigation) system with 15.7cm touchscreen panel, which is found in almost all of the Honda products. It supports Bluetooth connectivity, satellite navigation, CD/DVD playback and several other input options. It also comes with speed sensitive volume control system. The steering wheel is also mounted with audio and call control buttons for convenience of its driver. It also has an efficient air conditioning unit, which maintains the temperature inside cabin. Its multi-information display provides instant fuel usage, range and average consumption. In addition to these, it also has height adjustable driver seat, map pockets in all doors, a large glove box, interior lamps with theater dimming effect, rear parcel shelf and many other such features.

Safety Features:

The list of protective aspects available in this trim includes dual front SRS airbags, ABS along with EBD and 3-point ELR seat belts for all seats that gives maximum protection to the occupants. Then it is also equipped with rear defogger, fog lamps, rear view camera with parking sensors and an advanced engine immobilizer with security alarm system that prevents the vehicle from any unauthorized entry.

Pros:

1. Lavish internal cabin with lots of safety and comfort features.
2. Presence of AVN system is a big plus point.

Cons:

1. Lack of leather upholstery even in its top end variant.
3. Lower ground clearance is a disadvantage.
