A3 2014-2017 40 TFSI Premium Review
Audi India has launched a new petrol version of its A3 sedan lineup to mark its first anniversary celebrations. The company has discontinued its 'Premium Plus' trim and has replaced it with this new Audi A3 40 TFSI Premium variant. It is powered by the same 1.8-litre engine that has the ability to produce 177bhp along with a maximum torque of 250Nm. It is being offered with several important aspects like a proficient automatic dual zone air conditioning system with heater, and electrically adjustable front seats that gives enhanced comfort. There is a long list of safety features like 3-point seat belts for all its occupants, warning triangle with first aid kit, an advanced engine immobilizer, six airbags and a few others for added protection. This vehicle looks quite attractive, especially in terms of exteriors as it inherits the design language of its sibling A4. It has signature styling aspects like LED DRLs, halogen headlamps and a spanking new set of 16 inch alloy rims. On the other hand, its insides are done up with premium quality material and in a dual tone color scheme. At the same time, the auto maker has opted for new design pattern and inserts, which gives an aristocratic look to the cabin.
Exteriors:
Its external appearance resembles their best selling A4 sedan series. It gets signature LED lighting setup on both its front and rear profiles. On the sides, there are neatly structured wheel arches that are equipped with a set of stylish 15-spoke "Y" design, 16-inch alloy wheels, which are covered with robust tubeless radials. The external door handles and ORVMs are treated in body color, while its B pillars have glossy black treatment. Interestingly, its window sill is garnished with brushed chrome inserts that gives it an elegant look. The front facade has a large hexagonal shaped grille with a thick chrome surround. It is further affixed with the stylish company's insignia, which gives it an eccentric look. The headlight cluster is quite sleek and is elegantly equipped with halogen headlamps, turn indicators and trademark LED DRLs as well. The front bumper has an intimidating design owing to its integrated spoiler and air ducts. It is also fitted with a body colored chin guard, which further adds to its urbane appeal. Coming to the rear, this luxury sedan has a lustrous structure where the LED tail lamps gives it a dominating look. The boot lid has an integrated spoiler and is elegantly decorated with chrome badging.
Interiors:
This trim comes with a roomy internal cabin that has a complete new design and premium class material. The cockpit has a dual tone dashboard, which is now decorated with stylish aluminum inlays. It is further equipped with a glove box unit, air conditioner, infotainment system and a proficient driver information system. In addition to these, there is a four spoke multifunctional steering wheel that is wrapped with leather and decorated with chrome inserts. The seats are well cushioned and covered with swish upholstery. The driver's seat gets electrically adjustable function while the rear one has a split folding facility. There is ample leg and shoulder space available in the rear cabin owing to its large wheelbase. At the same time, it has a large 425 litre boot compartment and 50 litre fuel tank, which helps to plan a longer trip. There are several utility based aspects given inside like accessory power socket, front sun visors, inside rear view mirror, drink holders along with front and rear center armrests.
Engine and Performance:
It is powered by a 1.8-litre, TFSI in-line petrol engine that has a total displacement capacity of 1798cc. It comprises of 4 cylinders, each of which have four valves in it and is further incorporated with an Audi valve lift system. This motor is equipped with a turbo charging unit that allows it to develop a commanding power of 177bhp between 5100 to 6200rpm that results in a peak torque output of 250Nm in the range of 1250 to 4500rpm. It is paired with a seven speed S tronic automatic transmission gear box that delivers torque output to its front wheels. This propels the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just about 7.3 seconds and allows it to achieve a top speed of 250 Kmph, which is quite impressive.
Braking and Handling:
The car maker has offered this luxury sedan with a proficient braking mechanism in the form of front ventilated discs and rear conventional disc brakes. It is incorporated with an anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution and emergency brake assist. There is also anti slip regulation function, which improves the traction and agility of this sedan. On the other hand, it is installed with a rack and pinion based electro mechanic power assisted steering system with speed related function, which provides precise response. At the same time, it is blessed with a robust suspension mechanism, which can take all the jerks caused on roads and keeps the vehicle well balanced.
Comfort Features:
Several sophisticated comfort features are available in this variant, which makes the drive enjoyable. Its cabin has an automatic two zone air conditioning unit that regulates the air temperature inside and keeps the ambiance pleasant. It also has a power steering with tilt adjustment, electrically adjustable driver's seat, rear AC vents, cruise control, central locking system, auto release function, electrically adjustable outside mirrors and an advanced driver information system.
