S 201 Latest Update

Earlier expected in 2018, the S201 will now be launched in India in 2019. In the latest spy pics, the S201 can be seen sporting machined alloys. The S201 is a sub-4metre SUV from Mahindra, based on the Ssangyong Tivoli which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The S201 is expected get a couple of segment-first features like dual-zone climate control and disc brakes on all four wheels. While the petrol engine on offer is expected to be a turbocharged version of the 1.2-litre unit that powers the KUV100, the diesel option will be the 1.5-litre engine present on the Marazzo. A six-speed transmission should be offered as standard. Once launched, the S201 will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon, in the sub-4 metre SUV segment.

Expert Review of Mahindra S 201

CarDekho Experts
CarDekho Experts:
If you factor in the expected packaging of the SsangYong Tivoli-based offering, the S201 does appear to be a promising product

Things We Like in S 201

  • Since the cabin appears to be identical to the SsangYong Tivoli, which wasn’t designed as a sub-compact SUV, the S201 could be among the more spacious offerings in the sub-4m SUV space
  • Being a monocoque SUV, the Mahindra S201 should offer better handling dynamics and fuel efficiency compared to Mahindra’s existing sub-4m SUVs – the TUV300 and NuvoSport

Things We Don't Like in S 201

  • Interiors seem to be a straight lift from the Tivoli, which has been on sale in Europe since 2015, so the cabin might look a bit dated upon launch
  • With Mahindra’s existing sub-4m offerings, the TUV300 and the NuvoSport, not being able to make any mark in the segment, it is certainly late to the party now

Stand Out Features

  • Expert Review of Mahindra S 201

Expected to get XUV500-borrowed 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto support

  • Expert Review of Mahindra S 201

With all-four disc brakes, the S201 could be among the handful of cars in the sub-Rs 10 lakh price bracket that offer all-around disc brakes

  • Expert Review of Mahindra S 201

Like the Tivoli, the S201 is likely to get dual-zone climate control, which will be a segment-first feature
