Hyundai Compact SUV is on Cards for India

India's second largest carmaker Hyundai Motors India that rolled out the much anticipated compact hatchback Grand i10 recently, is also planning to roll out few more compact products in coming two years. A compact SUV and a compact sedan is what we are sure of, there will also be a compact MPV. The compact SUV is still under development, but the car was caught testing few months back in Korea, which further strengthens our claim. However, few months back, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) MD & CEO Bo Shin Seo had said that the company is developing a compact SUV, which will be launched soon.

Today we'll talk about the compact SUV which will join the league where some pretty good cars including Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport are already there. Our sources suggest that the new Compact SUV will probably be built on the similar platform on which Grand i10 has been built. A new compact sedan about which we talked above, too might use the similar platform. We are expecting it to be a sub-4 metre car, equipped with the 1.2-litre Kappa2 petrol engine and the 1.4-litre CRDI diesel engine.

However, few media reports are claiming this vehicle to be exclusively for India, we differ on this. We believe that the compact SUV might also be launched in markets like Brazil and Europe to compete against Duster and EcoSport.

Hyundai has products in almost all the segments in India, starting from small entry level hatchback to luxurious saloon. But they only have Santa Fe in the Utility vehicle segment, which too is an expensive one, so an affordable compact SUV and an MPV can further help the company to acquire more market share. And since Hyundai is already late in bringing their compact SUV, which they too have agreed upon, shall not take much time to introduce it now. So, we are expecting the compact SUV to hit Indian shores by the end of 2014.
