The 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI made its official appearance at the Paris Motor Show 2012 along with the regular 2014 Golf range. In comparison to the regular Golf, the GTI is nearly 55mm lower and flaunts sportier bumpers and upgraded brakes with red calipers.

As per the VW R&D chief Ulrich Hackenberg, this model is a ‘low weight’ model offering ‘outstanding performance’ which will help it be comfortable as well as sporty. Under the hood it has the new 2.0-litre 4-cyliner engine which now gets it nearly 20bhp more power.

The performance package further enhances the power to 230bhp which gives the 2014 GTI an edge in front of the Ford Focus ST and Mazda Mazdaspeed3 etc. There will be two different power outputs of 217bhp and 227bhp, available with the new 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine.

The engine will come mated to 6-speed manual or DSG dual-clutch transmission which allows the VW vehicle to cross 0-60mph (0-96kmph) mark in about 6.6seconds and a top speed of 152mph (244kmph) and the performance package allow a top speed of 155mph (249kmph).

The 227bhp model of the GTI will get a lot of upgrades with new electronic differential to improve cornering speeds. The Golf GTI will also come with a Stop/Start system which will come as a standard in all models. The new Golf GTI will go on sale in the UK sometime next year.
