Hyundai Venue N Line 2021-2025

Hyundai’s first N Line SUV for India was the small but potent Venue. For context, the ‘N Line’ range of cars from Hyundai signify a slightly sportier version. This is not to be confused with the full-blown ‘N’ cars, which usually have upgraded engines and more power.

This version brings in sporty visual additions inside out, and minor mechanical changes too. On paper, it promises to be the Venue for the driving enthusiast. Does it deliver on that promise? I drove the Venue N Line for a few weeks and even benchmarked it against popular rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV3XO and Kia Sonet to get you the answer. 

Design and Build Quality

The overall design of the Venue N Line is similar to the standard Venue, with some small details added in that create a big difference. A similar theme is followed for the 2025 Venue N Line, our in-images article has all the details.

At the front, you’ll notice the black chrome treatment for the grille. Hyundai has also changed the design of the front bumper entirely, giving it a split faux skid plate and red accents to make it look racier. The sleek LED daytime running lamps, and projector headlights remain unchanged. Interestingly, there are no fog lamps on offer here. 

From the side, the Venue N Line looks practically identical to the standard model. The 16-inch alloy wheels have a different design, but the same tyre size. You’ll spot some more red highlights outlining the cladding on the door, and some on the front and rear wheel arch as well. The roof rails are finished in black and get some more red detailing.

It’s the rear end design that’s my favourite on the Venue N Line. While the connected LED tail lamp setup remains unchanged, the bumper has been redesigned. Here too, there’s a split skid plate, and a set of chunky exhaust tips that gives this SUV a properly sporty vibe. A larger rear spoiler completes the look. And just so people don’t mistake it for just another Venue, there’s subtle ‘N Line’ badging on the tailgate too.

In my opinion, this looks even better than the standard Venue, which in itself is a pretty good looking car. And due to this design, when you’ll drive the Venue N Line, people will definitely notice you, due to its eye-catching road presence.

The Venue N Line also gets three colour options, out of which the blue and grey are exclusive to this sporty SUV. Hyundai played it right with these colours because this SUV, with its sporty design elements, really stands out in those shades.

If you thought that the exterior was sporty, then you’re in for a surprise. The cabin of the Venue N Line is sportier, and comes in an all-black theme with contrast red elements. The cabin houses an all-black dashboard with gloss black elements and red inserts. Here, you also get sporty front seats with red stitching and N Line badging for an additional sporty touch.

Talking about the details, you get the N Line badging on the steering wheel and gear knob, and you can spot the red design elements on the steering wheel, AC controls, AC vents, and on the doors. Also, the Venue N Line gets a different steering wheel, which looks sportier than the one in the standard Venue.

Usually, I do not prefer dark cabins and like lighter cabin themes because they make the cabin feel more airy. However, this dark cabin is different. When you’ll sit inside the Venue N Line, you’ll not only like the design of the cabin, but will also get the feeling that you’re about to drive a powerful car.

Quality all round is acceptable. Hyundai has used hard and scratchy plastic throughout, but cleverly used textures to deliver a richer feel. SUVs such as the Nexon and XUV3XO have pushed the game forward with leatherette padding on the dash, which we expect Hyundai to introduce in a new generation model.

Front Seats

These seats are not only sporty, but are also very comfortable and supportive. You get a good amount of headroom here and the driver’s seat is 4-way power adjustable for convenience. Also, since you get a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, finding your driving position is not so hard.

For anyone moving up from a small hatchback, the driving position will feel neutral and confidence inspiring. With a high set seat, slim A-pillars and large windows, all round visibility is great, which is sure to help newer drivers.

Rear Seats

Just like the front seats, the rear seats are comfortable as well. Here, you get a good amount of headroom and underthigh support, and these seats offer a decent amount of knee room. For anyone up to 6’ tall, space will not feel like a compromise. 

That said, the width of the rear seats are better for just two passengers. Seating three is possible, but only if you’re okay with brushing shoulders for a while. So, it's best if you seat only two people in the back, more so for longer journeys.

Storage

In the Venue N Line, you get 1-litre bottle holders on all four doors, a decent sized glove box, two cup holders in the centre console, storage in the centre armrest, and a tray on the dashboard where you can keep your phone or wallet.

Charging Options

Occupants at the front get a 12V socket, a USB type-A and type-C charger along with a wireless charger. Rear occupants are provided with two USB type-C chargers.

Features

The features list of the Venue N Line is not as comprehensive as some of its rivals’, but it is more than enough for your daily commutes or even for long trips. Basics, such as keyless entry, push-button start/stop, steering-mounted audio controls, and cruise control is on offer. Automatic climate control, rear AC vents and a single-pane sunroof are also available. 

The infotainment package consists of an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which runs smoothly, has no lag or glitches, and offers good graphics too. This screen also supports wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, which run seamlessly. It’s paired with a 6-speaker audio system which delivers great audio quality. 

There’s a digital driver’s display too, which comprises a 4.2-inch coloured MID sandwiched between two digital gauges that show speed and RPM respectively. This setup now feels slightly rudimentary given the crisp LCD screens that are on offer in rivals such as the Nexon, XUV3XO and Sonet. 

While the feature list is expansive, the segment has moved on to offer more. Features such as a panoramic sunroof, 360° camera, front seat ventilation are available in other SUVs for a similar price. 

The Venue N Line’s safety net includes 6 standard airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), all-wheel disc brakes, and hill hold assist.

Apart from these features, it also comes with a rear view camera, which is very helpful. There is no lag in the footage of this camera, and it works well during the day. However, at night or in low light conditions, the footage becomes grainy which causes difficulty in seeing what’s behind.

Now, Hyundai also offers a dual-camera dash cam with the Venue N Line in the lower N6 variant. It not only records the road when you’re driving, but can also record the cabin with a camera placed facing the cabin. The real benefit of this equipment is that if unfortunately you get into an accident, or have a close call, the footage from the dash cam can be very useful.

Lastly, the Venue and the Venue N Line both come with Level 1 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) features like lane keep assist, forward collision warning, high beam assist, and autonomous emergency braking, which will make your drives even safer.

Do note that the Venue or the Venue N Line have not been crash tested by BharatNCAP or Global NCAP. There are no crash test results available for the India-spec model.

There is no difference in the boot space of the Venue N Line and the standard Venue. This 350-litre boot can easily store a full suitcase set: large, medium, and small suitcase, and will still have space left to keep a small bag.

If you need more space for your luggage, you can fold its rear seats in a 60:40 ratio, so you’ll be able to store more luggage with ease.

The Venue N Line gets standard Venue’s 1-litre turbo-petrol engine which comes paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic). The Venue N Line is truly an enthusiast’s car, because it was clear from its drive experience.

Is this engine refined? Yes. Is it responsive? Yes. Is it powerful? Absolutely. While driving the Venue N Line, I did not feel the lack of power for even a second. It has strong acceleration, builds speed quickly, overtakes are easy, and the exhaust note is like music to the ears (Yes, its exhaust note is different from the standard Venue).

City Performance

During city commutes, there is no lack of power and you can smoothly navigate through bumper-to-bumper traffic. There’s ample torque which ensures you don’t have to constantly downshift. You can cruise around town in second or even third gear without any issues. The weight of the clutch is light enough, and the gears slot in with precision too.

If you foresee heavy in-city usage, you can consider opting for the DCT too. Here, the gear shifts are smooth and quick. The gearbox responds to part-throttle inputs well, and does not hesitate to downshift quickly if required. While this gearbox isn’t as quick as Volkswagen’s DSG, it’s more than acceptable for daily drives and spirited highway runs.

Highway Performance 

You’d expect a small 1.0-litre turbo engine to struggle and protest on the highway. That’s simply not the case here. You can not only get up to triple digit speeds quickly, but also maintain it effortlessly. It also does not mind being pushed harder, where you will enjoy the sportier exhaust note a little more. Overall, it delivers a very fun and engaging highway driving experience.

Just like its performance, its ride quality will also not give you any complaints. The suspension setup, while slightly on the stiffer side, absorbs the bumps very well, so you don’t feel them much inside the cabin. It can easily go over broken patches, and while there will be some movement inside the cabin, you will remain comfortable.

We’d suggest you slow down for speed breakers and big potholes, considering the suspension has a tendency to bottom out and make a loud thud sound. Finally, on highways, the Venue N Line is pretty stable, and even with some noticeable body roll, your comfort will remain intact.

Hyundai has also made some adjustments to the suspension of the Venue N Line for better handling, but the difference between this and the standard Venue’s handling is not day and night. There are revisions to the steering calibration as well, which means you have better weight and feel from the wheel. 

For city drives, the steering is light enough to zip through traffic and park in tight spaces. On the highway, you’ll like the weight of the steering, that lets you hold higher speeds with confidence.

The Hyundai Venue N Line is available in two variants: N6 and N8 

Hyundai Venue N Line N6 Variant

• This variant looks identical to the top model, with features such as LED DRLs, projector headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust tips and red accents. 

• The interior features an all-black interior theme with red accents, and a three-spoke steering wheel. 

• Features include 8-inch touchscreen, single-pane sunroof, automatic climate control, wireless charger, chilled glovebox and cruise control. 

• Safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC and TPMS. A dual dashcam is also on offer.  

Venue N Line N8 Variant

• There are no differences visually inside out compared to the N6 variant. 

• Additional features include a 4-way powered driver’s seat, connected car technology (Bluelink), voice activation for the sunroof, and an auto-dimming IRVM. 

• Safety is boosted by L1 ADAS.

• There’s no real reason to stretch for the N8 variant. The N6 variant offers everything you’d need from a sporty compact SUV.

As good as the Venue N Line is, it’s simply not for everyone. If you want the same package and don’t care much for the different looks or the slightly sportier driving experience, the standard Venue will work just fine. However, if you prioritize style, sportiness, and a fun-to-drive experience, the Venue N Line is the one to pick.
