8 Series highlights
BMW unveiled the 8 Series Coupe at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans premiere endurance racing event. The new coupe is a successor to the first-gen 8 Series, which was discontinued way back in 1999. Offered in two variants, the 8 Series gets a choice of two powertrain options. The M850i xDrive is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine (530PS/750Nm), while the 840d xDrive gets a 3.0-litre inline six diesel engine (320PS/680Nm). Both engines are mated to an 8-speed ZF-sourced automatic transmission and power is sent to all four wheels via a rear-biased, four-wheel drive system.
The 2018 8 Series gets features such as BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a fully digital instrument cluster, BMW Display Key and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Customers can also choose the optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system too. In terms of safety features, it gets a HUD (head-up display), active cruise control with stop & go function, steering and lane control assistant, lane change warning and lane departure warning, side collision protection, evasion aid, distance information, crossing traffic warning, priority warning and wrong-way warning.
The new 8 Series will go on sale in global market in November 2018. Expect it to make its way here by 2019. When launched, the BMW 8 Series will take on likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, Bentley Continental GT and the Aston Martin DB11.
