Tata Hispano receives order for 10 hybrid low floor buses in Madrid

Tata Motors fully owned subsidary, Tata Hispano Motors Carrocera SA has received 10 hybrid low floor buses order in Madrid. The news was confirmed by Tata Motors on Tuesday. The company released a statement which read that Tata Hispano Motors Carrocera SA has obtained an order for 10 low floor CNG series hybrid buses. The buses to be rolled out in 2012 will be manufactured on Tata Motors chassis to EMT Madrid. EMT Madrid is the public transport company in the city of Madrid.

When inquired about the order value, the company refused to give details. The Indian auto giant said that the low floor hybrid buses will come with better fuel efficiency and less emissions over the other conventional buses which are already running on roads.

Tata Motors in the wake of expanding its global market share in 2005 had purchased 21 per cent share in Hispano Motors Carrocera SA, the Spanish bus and coach maker. In 2009, the Tata Motors acquired the rest of the 79 per cent stake in the Spanish automobile manufacturer. The Tata Hispano Motors Carrocera is one of Spain's biggest producer of coach and bus cabins.

Hispano Motors Carrocera SA owns two production plants- Zaragoza in Spain which captures the European markets. The second one is at Casablanca for the Moroccan and other North American auto sectors. The annual manufacturing capacity of the plant is 2,000 units.

The Hispano replicate buses are manufactured in the ACGL unit of Tata Motors in Goa, India. It is known as Tata Hispano Globus.

After years of dominance in the Indian auto sector, Tata Motors was looking forward to cement its position in the global auto sector. The Indian commercial vehicle leader also took over other international automobile manufacturing companies. In 2004, the Indian leading automobile maker purchased the South Korean Daewoo, the truck manufacturing company which is now called as Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle in South Korea. It is the 2nd biggest heavy locomotive producer in South Korea. In 2007, the Indian company came in partnership with Brazilian Marcopolo and they jointly launched the low floor buses in India. In 2008, Tata Motors took acquisition of the British Luxury car brand Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) which included the Lanchester and Daimler brand also.

This year, Tata Motors took over 80 per cent share in Trilix, the Italian based design and engineering firm for 1.85 million euro.
