The 4x2 pleasure and prestige models posses same features as in the 4x4 models, while 4x2 Pure being the base model lacks few aesthetic features. Editor's take : Being about 200kgs lighter than the 4x4 version of the Aria, the fuel efficiency of the Aria is better.
The impressive ARAI mileage figures of 13.51kmpl is claimed by the manufacturers of Tata Aria. These figures are definitely fair enough specially when the cross-over segment is considered. The wagon also proves its efficiency when treated as off-roader, and feels no less than the most popular off-road vehicles available in the market. Great combination of high performance and stylish appearance, along with being fuel efficient, Tata Aria still has great potential to mark its success. Though, company is finding difficult to sell this cross-over, but if launched with some upliftments may work in the favour of the company.
Editor's take : The power ratings of the Aria is similar to the 2.2-litre used on the older Safari, but the refinement and power delivery is more linear than the older engine. The VariCOR has improved drivability and better refinement too.
The famous and much loved Tata Safari engine is the one that powers the all the variants of Tata Aria. Tata Aria comes packed with a 2.2L, 2179cc, 4-cylinder, Direct Injection Common Rail (DICOR) engine with dual mass flywheel. The 2.2L Direct Injection Common Rail (DICOR) engine in the Tata Aria offers a maximum power of 140 PS at 4,000 rpm and develops a peak torque of 320 Nm at 1,700-2,700 rpm . The engine is similar to that of Safari but its refinement is very obvious to be able to suit Tata Aria better. It is refined with optimized rubber mounts, aluminum cast sump, better acoustic package with a dual mass flywheel which plays the main role to reduce unwanted vibrations and enhances the overall engine performance. Acceleration and overall performance in the new Tata Aria is surely bettered in comparison to Safari.
Editor's take : The acceleration of the 4x2 is better than the 4x4 thanks to the lighter weight. The acceleration of the 4x4 is decent.
The performance and massive power of the Tata Safari is well known and since the same refined Safari unit powers Tata Aria, the exuberant power and acceleration is assured. Tata Aria comes powered by the Safari's 2.2L, 2179cc, Direct Injection Common Rail (DiCOR) engine with dual mass flywheel that delivers the maximum power of 138bhp at 4,000rpm with the maximum torque of 320Nm at 1700-2700rpm. The higher level of power and torque result in excellent acceleration and make Tata Aria able to cross 100kmph mark in just 14 seconds and to touch the top speed mark of 162kmph.
Moving to the exteriors of Tata Aria, at a very first look, car seems like MUV or we can say similar to Toyota Innova but its large sporty wheels with muscular wheel arches and aggressively designed front fascia, adds SUV like effect. The Tata Aria's designing has a “never-before” element, with its wide and aggressive upper front grille is a bit inspired from Tata Indica Vista and Tata Manza's looks. The front turn indicators are also placed with automatically adjustable ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors). Tata Aria comes with sophisticated headlamps and bonnet creases look same like all traditional vehicles from Tata Motors’ product portfolio. The frontal view of the Tata Aria is attributed by its attractive vertically stacked dual barrel front headlamps with projector beam; the headlamps look as if giving support to the horizontal slats chrome grille with company logo. The lower air intake captures more space unlike other SUVs and houses front bright fog lamps in round shape. The wheelarches and bumpers are in body color that give uniformity to the car. Body color rub rails and chrome waistline on windows makes it distinctive among its peers. Rain sensing wipers also find their place in the car. Specifically the 4x4 and 4x2 Tata Aria Prestige and 4x4 Aria pride has its body colored door handles placed parallel to the rear side mirrors and this five door vehicle has five-spoke 17 inch alloy wheels with tubeless radial tyres. Tata Aria's rear tail gate lifts up like a hatchback. Also, the Tata Aria has some very refined features like large dual elliptical exhausts , high mounted vertically stacked tail lamps, rear wiper autowipe, while reversing and a third stop lamp placed above the tail gate for that SUV look.
This mixture of a MUV and SUV – Tata Aria comes with seating capacity of seven passengers, and dimensionally the car is – length 4780mm, width 1895mm and height 1780mm. Tata Aria's large wheelbase of 2850mm and good ground clearance of 200mm prove its off-roading capability. The front and rear track of Tata Aria are 1580mm and 1550mm respectively.
Editor's take : The interiors of the Aria are anything like any other Tatas. The plastic quality and the fit and finish is much better than that in any Tata car.
Tata Aria, the most sorted Tata vehicle so far, certainly features plush interiors to attract attention of the buyers. The spacious cabin of the Tata Aria is as luxurious as any other premium sedan. The tilt adjustable steering wheel of the Tata Aria has four spokes and has mounted audio and phone controls . Advanced instrument cluster which is placed just behind the steering wheel looks similar to the one in MotoGP bike with only 2 dials with black and white colour combination. All the regular indicators are positioned at the centre of the console in a scattered manner. The interiors of the Tata Aria come with wide range of choice and standard eye-catching inserts. It is available in fabric and full leather upholstery with three types of interior shades that include Black and Plum, Black and Black and Black and Beige. Black and Beige interiors sports wood inserts at door panels and at dashboard. The door handles in all the variants are in chrome finish that add glitter to the gold. When viewed from the driver's seat, Tata Aria features , a high-tech multimedia LCD which is placed in the mid of the dashboard catches our eyes. This LCD screen is a GPS navigation system that guides you to your destination . The crossover has got 2 DIN stereo audio system with which you can play CD/MP3. Apart from this, infotainment system, dual air conditioning with automatic climate control and cruise control , dimming roof lamps and in-dash built in GPS add to the style and luxury of the vehicle. For passenger's convenience, the roof of the Tata Aria is fitted with mini glove boxes where one can put mobile and other small stuffs. In addition, bottle holder in door pockets are also provided. Seven passenger can be accommodated in this five door crossover. The second and third row seats are foldable to fully flat position but this is not the case with third row. And hence the problem arises for the passengers of the third row.
Tata Aria is a very comfortable crossover with ample room for 7 passengers seating arrangement. However, the third row has less leg room but it's not a big concern as it is a common problem in MPVs. The second and third row seats can be folded fully flat, also aircon separate for all three rows is made available in this particular cross-over. Tata Aria also boasts a good storage compartment which is provided right behind the third row. Legroom and headroom is good enough for driver and front passenger. Tata Aria comes with a sun-roof allowing natural light to enter. It is also covered with impressive cover. The driver seat of the Tata Aria is 6 way adjustable including height adjustment and head restraints; middle seat can be slided, handrest is also adjustable, lumbar support adjustment can be done for comfortable seating. Seat belts are also height adjustable that add extra comfort. As mentioned above, the comfortable seats with the 60:40 split and foldable second seat row can be slid back and forth to create extra leg space for the rear passenger. This premium car by Tata, has been blessed with a reverse guide system that works through an in-built reverse guide camera. This system helps you to park your vehicle by providing the view of rear vehicles or obstacles. The crossover comes equipped with GPS Navigation system that helps you to reach your destination through pre-loaded maps. The system also searches for restaurants, hospitals banks, etc on your way.
Tata Aria also sports an advanced infotainment system that consists of 2 DIN integrated music system with 6 speakers, which plays CD and MP3, USB port, AUX input jack and it is also mechanized with speed sensing volume controlling device. The info system also has an in built Bluetooth connect with which you can pair up to 5 mobile phones. The system also displays things like inside/outside temperatures, the distance traveled, fuel remained, instant and average fuel consumption, and other alerts related to performance and control of the car. To make car more accessible and user friendly, company has made a 12V power outlet available to charge mobile phones. Another utility feature of Tata Aria is glove box chiller that allows you to keep your drinks and chocolates pretty cool, further the automatic glove box light switches on when you open the box. In addition to these comfort features in the Tata Aria, there are other comfort features that are incorporated in the vehicle including door mounted magazine holder, cup holder, tilt adjustable power steering with mounted audio and phone controls, rain sensing auto wipers, puddle lamp, electronically adjustable and foldable ORVMs , bonnet auto lift, luggage lighting and charging point in the boot space, auto climate control, sunvisor extenders , etc.
Tata Aria is a five door crossover which is powered by a 2.2L DiCOR engine. This car has abundant headroom and legroom for all the passengers. Just that the third row passenger would feel little uncomfortable with restricted legroom. The seating capacity of the vehicle is 7 passengers.
Editor's t ake: The performance of the 2.2-litre engine is good, with linear power delivery. The VariCOR’s dual mass flywheel helps to reduce the vibrations and even the power delivery is better.s
This 7-seater wagon by Tata Motors is loaded with the same engine, which duties Tata Safari. The engine type is 2.2L DiCOR (Direct Injection Common Rail) diesel engine. Tata Aria's power and torque answer most questions concerning the cars capabilities and performance. Tata Aria has a new generation 2.2 L, DICOR (Direct Injection Common Rail) diesel engine that works on the base of 32 bit electronic control unit and houses state-of-the-art technology. Tata Aria comes with a top speed of around 152kmph while it touches 0-100kmph sprint in mere 14 seconds. The turbocharger in the engine comes equipped with unique Variable Turbine Technology (VTT) that is responsible for better power and torque along with handling and control of engine air requirements. These speed and acceleration figures can be easily achieved with the help of 2.2 L VTT DiCOR mill and five-speed manual transmission (Mark II gearbox). Apart from delivering amazing power and torque, the mill ensure less emission and enhanced fuel efficiency. The powertrain is also well supported by 16 valves (4 valves per cylinder) that ascertain more power and torque with better fuel consumption. It is equipped with a dual mass flywheel which isolates torsional vibrations from the powertrain, thus providing a NVH free environment in the cabin.

Editor's take : The ride of the Aria is as plush as any other Tata vehicle. The chassis of this vehicle was fine tuned by Lotus, hence it does really handle well. The handling is just like a sedan despite the ground clearance and size of the Aria.
Tata Aria is not only the most expensive and luxurious Tata vehicle but also one of the most technologically advanced. The Tata Aria has excellent braking and handling abilities. The front brakes are Twin Port Caliper ventilated type while the rear one are Disc type. The braking system is integrated with ABS and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) system .
