Power
Tata Aria which was launched in Delhi Auto Expo 2010 has borrowed the powertrain from flagship Tata Safari but with some minor changes. So one thing is very much sure that it will clear roads with faster acceleration and power. The power and acceleration is guaranteed in the new offering of Tata. The engine is 2.2L DICOR (Direct Injection Common Rail) type coupled with 16 valves. It belts out a maximum power of 140 bhp at 4,000 rpm and develops a peak torque of 320 Nm at 1,700 to 2,700 rpm. Five-speed manual transmission along with powertrain promise higher power and performance. It is also reported that the vehicle can achieve 0-100 kmph in just 16 seconds. Whereas the top speed of the machine is upto 152 kmph. In view to get best results, the engine is fitted with Variable Turbine Technology (VTT), 32 bit electronic control unit and new turbocharger.
Acceleration and Pick Up
As mentioned above, the new Tata Aria will house Tata Safari's 2.2L DICOR engine that churns a peak power of 140 bhp at 4,000 rpm and produces 320 Nm of top torque. The engine is well proved itself on road and off road. With the help of proven technology, the mill might chase the top speed of 152 kmph. In addition, you can easily touch 0-100 kmph sprint within 14 seconds. In the same way, pick-up would be impressive as well.
Tata Aria Exteriors
Exterior Appearance
The exterior appearance of the Tata Aria suggests it's size comes between an SUV and MPV. Though the heart of the car is sourced from Tata Safari but this not the case with size and appearance. At very first look, you may say that the looks are similar to Toyota Innova but Tata has made it very clear that its having a new image altogether. Front face of the vehicle is sharp and aggressive.
Turn indicators and headlamps clubbed in a cluster at front in Tata Aria. Chrome finish grille (upper) comes in the traditional Tata style and appeals to the class. Whereas lower grille is also
provided which sports round fog lamps. Curves on the bonnet and side are easily noticed but in a furnished way along with opposing wipers at both end. The electrically powered rear side view mirrors are mounted on a body colour rod. The front turn indicators are also got a sleek rectangular space at rear side view mirrors. Body coloured door handles is placed parallel to the rear side mirrors. The five door vehicle has five-spoke alloy wheels with more rubber on tyres. Ground clearance is pretty good for a vehicle which comes between SUV and MPV. At the rear side, chrome finished exhaust pipe peeps out from down. There are vertical rectangular brake, turn and reverse indicators. An additional brake light is attached just below the end of roof at rear. Bumper will be in body colour. According to initial Tata Aria pictures, it would incorporate sun-roof as well.
Exterior Measurements
As mentioned earlier in the review, the vehicle, Tata Aria, comes between the size of MPV and SUV. So it would be having wider dimensions along with pretty good ground clearance. But so far, no official words on the same.
Tata Aria Interiors
Interior Appearance
Tata Motors' Tata Aria is supposed to be priced between Rs 13 to 15 lakh and its going to be the most expensive Tata vehicle. This also confirms that the company will not take any chance to compete with the likes of Toyota Innova, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Captiva. The cabin of the Tata Aria is as luxurious as any other luxury car. The interior is decorated in dual tone beige interiors. The power steering wheel of the vehicle is four spoke. Control are mounted at the multifunctional steering wheel. Instrument cluster is placed just behind the steering wheel. In the middle of the cabin, a high-tech multimedia case is fitted which might support USB, Bluetooth connectivity. Audio system is comprised of 3D sound. For passenger's convenience, the roof of the vehicle is fitted with mini glove boxes where one can put mobile and other small stuffs. In addition, bottle holder in door pockets. Seven passenger can be accommodated in the five door crossover. The second and third row seats are foldable fully flat but this is not the case with third row. And hence the problem arises for the passengers who sit there. In addition, leg room is not sufficient for them. This is basically is a result of providing storage compartment at rear inside the vehicle.
Interior Comfort
The vehicle comes in three rows seating which can accommodate 7 passengers. However, the third row has less leg room but it's not a big concern as it is a common problem in MPVs. The second and third row seats can be folded fully flat while aircon for all three rows and the C pillar is there.
A nice and large storage compartment is provided right behind the third row. It is also covered with impressive cover. Legroom and headroom is good enough for driver and front passenger. The top speed of the vehicle is supposed to be around 152 kmph while it is likely to touch 0-100 kmph sprint in mere 14 seconds. These speed and acceleration figures can be easily achieved with the help of 2.2 L VTT DICOR mill and five-speed manual transmission. The new generation 2.2 L Dicor engine works on the base of 32 bit electronic control unit and houses state-of-the-art technology. Apart from delivering amazing power and torque, the mill ensure less emission and enhanced fuel efficiency.
