April 10, 2014: Tata Motors has silently launched the much awaited facelift version of SUV Aria at Rs 9.95 lakh. The SUV is made available in three trim levels Pure 4X2, Pleasure 4X2 and Pride 4X4. The facelifted version features JBL Harman infotainment system, projector headlmaps, Dual AC with climate control to mention few. In terms of safety the car now includes ABS, EBD, six airbags, traction control and reverse camera. The SUV in-houses all new VARICOR 2.2 litre engine with new turbo charger that belts a maximum power of 148bhp and peak torque of 320Nm. The SUV delivers fuel economy of 15.05kmpl (ARAI certified).
Tata Motor Group has introduced the facelifted version of its Aria MPV with a new set of interior and exterior aspects. It is a robust multi purpose vehicle, which is available in Pure LX, Pleasure and Pride variants. These three trims are incorporated with a 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel engine, which is powerful and results in a healthy fuel economy. This motor can generate a peak power of 147.94bhp, while yielding a maximum torque output of 320Nm. This vehicle takes 13 to 14 seconds approximately to cross the the 100 Kmph, which is quite good. It is bestowed with an efficient suspension system that keeps it well balanced on uneven road conditions. The internal section of its top end variant is decorated with a two tone color scheme that is further complimented by brushed metallic inserts. It is incorporated with well cushioned seats which offer good comfort to its occupants. The dashboard is neatly designed and it houses an instrument cluster, center console and a steering wheel. The key aspects in the Pride trim include an advanced music system designed by HARMAN and the NAVTEQ satellite navigation system. While the mid range trim is bestowed with a 2-DIN music system that features a CD player and has six speakers as well. Apart from these, the cabin includes a lot of storage spaces as well as utility based aspects. When it comes to safety, it is blessed with a robust body structure that provides additional protection. Other than these, the vehicle includes ABS, airbags and an effective disc braking mechanism.

It is currently offered with a standard warranty of three years or 1,00,000 kilometers, whichever is earlier and this period can be further extended at an extra cost.

The look of its side profile is enhanced by body graphics and has redesigned wheel arches fitted with a pair of 17 inch alloy wheels. However, the base and mid range trims are equipped with a conventional set of 16 inch steel wheels that have full wheel covers. Coming to the rear end, it receives minor cosmetic tweaks that adds to its refined look. It has a redesigned clear lens tail light cluster and a wide windshield accompanied by high mount third brake light, wiper and a defogger. The large boot lid comes with a chrome strip and includes the company's emblem on it. The bumper is in body color and integrated with a couple of fog lamps. Its rear profile also includes a pair of exhaust pipes that are treated with chrome.
This muscular vehicle is designed with an overall length of 4780mm and has a decent width of 1895mm. It has a total height of 1780mm, while its minimum ground clearance of 200mm is pretty good. The wheelbase of 2850mm is quite large which determines ample leg room inside. It has a large fuel tank which is capable of holding around 60 litres of diesel in it.
Editor's take : The interiors of the Aria are anything like any other Tatas. The plastic quality and the fit and finish is much better than that in any Tata car.

The cabin is quite roomy and provides seating for at least seven persons. The dashboard is neatly designed and is integrated with a central console that has brushed metallic inserts. It also has a steering wheel and an instrument cluster that is equipped with several functions. These include a tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and a few other notifications . The well cushioned seats in the Pride variant are covered with black and plum colored leather upholstery while the other trims have beige fabric seat covers. The door handles are treated with chrome which further gives a classy look to its interiors. It has height adjustable driver's seat, while the sliding second row seat offers maximum comfort. The cabin includes a music system, driver information system, roof storage bins, goggle cases, cup holders and a glove box that has cooling effect. The top end trim is blessed with satellite navigation system and its steering wheel is equipped with audio as well as phone controls.
This luxurious MPV is blessed with a number of comfort features that results in a pleasurable driving experience. The occupants are provided with enough leg room and shoulder space. There are foldable second and third row seats, which are accompanied by pillar mounted air vents. The driver's seat comes with six way adjustable function and has lumbar support as well. Besides these, it has height adjustable seat belts that adds to the safety standards. The top end trim is blessed with a 360 Watt JBL music system by HARMAN that features 8-channel amplifier and ten speakers. It has a 12V power outlet for charging electronic devices. This utility vehicle has a head space of 970mm along with the second row leg room of 770mm, which is a bit more than other MPVs in its class. On the other hand, it comes with the third row head room of 970mm, which indicates a huge cabin space.

Editor's take : The acceleration of the 4x2 is better than the 4x4 thanks to the lighter weight. The acceleration of the 4x4 is decent.
The VARICOR diesel engine of this model is skillfully coupled with a five speed manual transmission gearbox. This propels the vehicle in crossing the speed mark of 100 Kmph in about 13 to 14 seconds from a standstill. At the same time, it can attain a top speed in the range of 180 to 185 Kmph, which is quite impressive.

This commanding motor is skillfully paired with a five speed manual transmission gearbox that allows torque distribution to its front wheels. The high end variant features torque on demand 4x4 system that transmits torque output to all four wheels. This mill is capable of producing a maximum power of 147.94bhp at 4000rpm and yields a peak torque output of 320Nm in the range of 1500 and 3000rpm. This vehicle requires about 14 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 Kmph, which is quite good.
Editor's take : Being about 200kgs lighter than the 4x4 version of the Aria, the fuel efficiency of the Aria is better.
This multipurpose vehicle is powered by a powerful 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel motor and integrated with a common rail direct fuel injection system. The manufacturer claims that it is capable of delivering a peak mileage of 15.05 Kmpl on bigger roads. It gives about 12.8 Kmpl when the vehicle is driven in city traffic conditions, which is quite decent.
Editor's take : The power ratings of the Aria is similar to the 2.2-litre used on the older Safari, but the refinement and power delivery is more linear than the older engine. The VariCOR has improved drivability and better refinement too.
All the three variants of Tata Aria are equipped with an advanced 4-cylinder diesel mill, which now develops more power and produces a better fuel economy. It has the ability of generating a maximum power of 147.94bhp at 4000rpm, which is about 10bhp more than its predecessor. At the same time, it yields a peak torque output of 320Nm in the range of 1500 and 3000rpm.

Editor's take : The ride of the Aria is as plush as any other Tata vehicle. The chassis of this vehicle was fine tuned by Lotus, hence it does really handle well. The handling is just like a sedan despite the ground clearance and size of the Aria.
The braking system of this multipurpose vehicle is advanced and efficient as well. The front wheels have sturdy ventilated disc brakes along with twin port calipers and solid disc brakes are used for the rear ones. It is further assisted by anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution system, which reinforces its functionality and efficiency. Furthermore, it has an electronic stability program along with traction control that improves its stability. When it comes to suspension system, the car maker has assembled its front axle with an independent double wish bone and affixed a five link suspension on the rear one. These axles are further loaded with coil springs, which results in an improved mechanism. It is incorporated with a highly responsive power assisted steering system that has tilt adjustment function and supports a minimum turning radius of 5.6 meters.

Tata Motors is all-set to launch the facelift version of their flagship MPV Tata Aria, by second half of this month. The company has been doing many test runs of facelift Aria, and is now finally ready to have a go in the Indian car market. Aria was first launched in 2010, and since then this is for the first time it has undergone revamp process. Tata had already showcased the upgraded Aria at 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Apart from this, the company may also come up with another MUV alongwith the launch of refreshed Aria.
