The car sales have begun to drop drastically over the past few months reaching the lowest growth in the months of July and August due to the double impact of the petrol price hike and the increasing lending rates. To make the most of the festival season, the automobile manufacturers have started showering discounts on their car models and freebies to lure the customers. The new car launches in the month of September including Toyota Etios twins, Nissan Sunny, Mercedes Benz CLS class, Renault Koleos, Honda Brio, Mahindra XUV 500 among other revamped versions have accounted for the reasonable growth in sales during the month of September.

The only auto manufacturer to suffer a major decline in sales is the country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India. The month long impasse at the MSI’s Manesar plant had led to a huge production loss there-by affecting the sales in the company. The company is said to suffer a Rs 540 crore loss since August due to the labour unrest, which has come to an end on Saturday. Despite the overwhelming response received by the new Maruti Swift since its launch in August with whopping 1 lakh bookings, the Indian auto major could not capitalize on the demand due to the supply constraints at the plant. Maruti India sales apparently dropped to 78,816 units in the month of September. The sales of is top-selling models like Maruti Swift, Maruti SX4 and Maruti A-star are mainly hit due to their production at the Manesar plant. However, the other models like Maurti Wagon R, Maruti Alto, Maruit Ritz, Maruto Omni and Maruti Eeco are least affected as they are produced at the Gurgaon plant.
