Volkswagen India that launched the 105bhp hot-hatch Polo GT in India is now planning to launch the off-roading competent Cross Polo in India to auto enthusiasts and touring lovers. The Polo-based crossover, Cross Polo doesn't only look rugged, it really has the power to prove to be the one. A few days back, the car was spied testing in India, now a report published in ekantipur claims that the CrossPolo will be launched in Nepal by September this year, and Pooja International- authorized VW distributor have confirmed the same. The vehicle will possibly be built in the company's VW Chakan and then exported to Nepal.

There are no official words on the launch dates and specs of the car, we are expecting it to be rolled out by the last quarter of 2013. What helps the Cross Polo to become rugged both in looks and nature are 14mm more height than the Polo, 17-inch alloy wheels, black plastic moulding around the wheel arches, bumpers and side sills. You can also see the roof rails in the spy pictures, which help it look more aggressive.

The engine options are likely to be the same offered on the regular Polo hatchback. But, to excite motoring enthusiasts, VW might fit in the 105bhp producing, 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine, which is fitted in the new Polo GT. However, that will only increase the cost of the vehicle. There are also rumours about CrossPolo having 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which will also power the GT TDI version of Polo.

We are expecting the Cross Polo to be priced around Rs 7 lakh to compete against the likes of Renault Duster and upcoming Ford EcoSport. Stay tuned to CarDekho for more updates on the same. Cheers.
