Hyundai Carlino

Hyundai is known for not trying to indulge in a price war with it's rivals. Instead, it's mantra is to build a product with a premium appeal and a bucketful of features that grabs eyeballs from the car’s target demographic. The same mantra helped Hyundai position the Creta at premium compared to the Renault Duster and still outsell it! With the launch of the Vitara Brezza and the showcase of Hyundai's Carlino concept at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo, it looks like Hyundai is all set to repeat history.

Maruti recently revealed that it will not be bringing SHVS to their Brezza compact SUV and this is the ideal opportunity for Hyundai to bring in Carlino with its ISG (Intelligent Stop & Go), Blue Drive technology, as it will supersede the fuel economy stats of Brezza.

Vitara Brezza

This technology automatically stops the engine, when you are standing in traffic or at a traffic signal and instantaneously restarts the motor, when the driver presses down on the clutch. This results in fuel savings of up to 15%. We expect the Carlino's production version to sport the 1.4 litre diesel motor from the Elite i20. Since the ISG is compatible with all of Hyundai's 'BlueDrive' series engines, Hyundai may just choose the Carlino to debut this tech. With this ace up its sleeve, the compact SUV might easily outshine Brezza’s 24.3kmpl.

Considering the fact that fuel economy is still one of the most vital parameters considered by Indian customers along with aesthetics, the on-road price etc, Hyundai will be able to achieve a stronghold in the market with a production-spec Hyundai Carlino Blue Drive. Carlino also makes its case with its striking aesthetics, which aims to capitalize on its rugged appeal bestowed by its boxy design. This design language might just lay down the foundations for the company’s upcoming SUV lineup. However, these are just speculations at this point, as there hasn’t been any official word released by Hyundai.
