Pros : Value for money, Driver's delight, A/C, Good stereo

Cons : High Engine NVH intruding into cabin, poor quality service stations, cabin plastics + rattling

Look and Style Though looks are quite personal a choice, IMO, the car looks pretty. The wide stance and the low profile gives it a sporty look. The seat covers offered along with the car, the alloys, the dashboard with silver rings around the a/c vents..all look beautiful, yet not excessive in styling.   Comfort Not the best car for a comfortable rear seat travel due to the stiff suspension and hard seat cushioning. However, the driver of the car would admire the quality of the front seat and the visibility. Even for short drivers (= 5' 3 tall) the car offers good visibility. The control it offers thru the hydraulic steering and the ABS brakes are a joy for the driver. The A/c is the best you can find in any hatchback in this category and cools the entire cabin in less than a min during a gruelling Chennai's summer.   Pickup Equally good as a DDiS engine from maruti, this engine does not have the turbo spike which we experience in any Fiat powered marutis. The car pulls well from 1500RPM and is a joy to drive around 3000RPM. With all five passengers + the a/c, the pick-up however drops and I've to turn off a/c while overtaking on highways :D   Mileage Best mileage on my 7000kms run car is 19kmpl on highway at speeds around 110kmph. I always run my car with the a/c on. In city, it returns 15kmpl (with a/c). However, on spirited runs (140~160kmph) it returned only 16.58kmpl.   Best Features Driveability, Value for money, bluetooth enabled stereo with steering (column) mounted controls, good ABS, stability on highspeeds   Needs to improve Cabin quality : Rattling heard from all parts of the car's cabin and is a common issue with all Figo owners. The dashboard turned red from the initial blue color within a month and half!! The earlier Figo dashboard color used to be red and they seemed to have re-painted it to make it look blue, which now started showing. Poor service station performance : I registered atleast 4 major complaints with them, of which not even a single one is rectified properly. 1. Difficulty in engaging gears (1st & reverse) 2. Dashboard discoloration 3. Rattling in body 4. Poor 3M teflon coating (done thru Lathangi ford) - Now I've bought turtle wax and started buffing my car myself after paying INR 3,800 for an absurdly inferior quality teflon coating. Ford seems to do nothing about this!!!   Overall Experience Still loves my car for the experience it offers while driving thru the ghats or on highways. Enjoys the a/c in gruelling summer while in city and easy on pocket for the money I've spent in owning one. (considering that I paid 7.2lacs for the fully loaded variant vis-a-vis 8.84 for a Swift Zdi or 9.3lacs for an i20). Once the free services are over, I'd find a local workshop where I can sit with them to get the issues rectified. Will NOT extend my warranty. :)

hi, good piece of experience.. thanks for sharing. i suggest you to write mail to head CSR ford india for service issue, these guys should respond to you and there are possibilities to improve on the same. thanks

Thanks for your response. I've already informed the CSR team from ford. As expected, I am only receiving calls from them (sometimes the same guy would call me multiple times) checking with me what is the issue faced. Every call ends with the same standard response that 'we are working on it' and the subsequent call will have no update from what was reported previously. And interestingly, all the calls come from the same location. Strange. They do not seem to have a proper documentation process for customer complaints which is where they are losing traction.

I absolutely agree with what Prajith has to say here, as I went through and going through an extremely nightmarish ordeal with Lathangi Ford, where most of them are utterly incompetent with their skills, and we have equally incompetent, ruthless, cruel, ill behaved managers. They are truly a shameless lot and simply a burden who contribute effectively to bad name we Indians get. All of these guys should be prosecuted and remanded to judicial custody for their negligence and putting customers and their family to extreme dangers, due to their work quality and their sick attitude of trying to fool innocent customers and being cheats. I can some other time provide the complete turmoil and anguish I've experienced with Lathangi Ford. Thanks for reading through. My sincere advice is not to buy vehicles from Lathangi, and even if you buy, please DO NOT leave it for service. Thanks Prajith and all.

Update : Completed the 10,000kms service at Chennai Ford. (10k kms in 3.5months :) ) The red color on dashboard was some kumkum spilled over from Prasad. Since the kumkum available these days are mostly chemical colors, it sort of stuck to the dash. The Chennai Ford (Arumbakkam) team were quick to recognize this (though the Lathangi Ford team told me that the dashboard has faded to show up a red color) and used some chemicals and then a polish to bring back the original color. I felt that Chennai Ford service is relatively better, with more attention to detail than the unskilled labourers from Lathangi. Cost of Service INR 2,954.00 (though while buying the car the sales rep told me the expenses would be approx. INR 2,500 per 10,0000kms till the 3yr warranty is over). The cost includes the price of Oil, consumables & lead for wheel balancing. Work done : Engine oil replacement, Wheel balancing, Wheel alignment & wheel rotation; Water servicing.

I want to buy a new car, which is best swift diesel or Figo Diesel??

  • Prajith |19 May,2014 02:27:38 AM

Hi Keshav Murthy, If initial investment and pure driving pleasure are your priority, then look no further than Figo. If you want a strong aftersales service + good resale value, then Swift is the best fit. Btw, I've completed 25k kms in the last 12months since I've purchased the car and the worries are poor service and expensive spares....My car met with a minor accident and it costed me a whopping 50,000 INR. Though the insurance covered Rs. 32,000, I am not happy with the unavailability of the so-called 'child parts'. These guys would simply replace the entire stuff and charge me a bomb for something so silly as negligible dent on the cowl or bumper stay or horn!!! I still remember the sales guy re-iterating Sir, we offer child parts on every spare. The spares are cheaper than Swift...all that turned out to be false. This car is way too expensive to maintain. My next car is not a Ford, no matter how amazing it is to drive. :(
