Gypsy King HT BSIV Review

The classic Maruti Gypsy is back on the road again, with the same classic look and a few extra features this time around. Available in more colours this time, Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI is priced nearly at 6 lakh. Fitted with manual transmission, it delivers less than average mileage for the automobiles of its category, but provides a decent enough mileage on the highways`. While it misses nearly every feature that is now associated with cars of any category, this car can still attract those faithful to its aesthetic charm.

Exteriors

The exterior dimension, that is, the length, width, and height of Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI is 4010mm, 1540mm, and 1845mm respectively. The vehicle commands a ground clearance of 210mm with a wheel base of 2375mm. The dimensions of front tread and rear tread are 1300mm and 1310mm respectively. The kerb weight of the car is 1020kg, while the gross weight of the car is 1620kg. A spare wheel cover is provided. There is a foot step assembly in the front. Other exterior features of Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI comprise of a driver's side rear view window and fibre reinforced plastic.  The Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI is available in the following colours: bright red, superior white, icy blue, silky silver.

Interiors

Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI has open interiors, spacious and airy. The seats have been upholstered with fabric in Hard Top. The front seats are capable of being reclined or slid as per the passengers' comfort and choice. The adjustable head restraint on the seats allows for easy seating and accommodation in the car . There are various basic necessities that have been provided in Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI. These include: a vanity mirror in left sun visor, a package tray in the front, a glove compartment that is lockable, floor carpet and a steering lock.

Engine and performance

Fitted with a 1.3-litre, G13B MPFI gasoline engine, Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI can effectively displace 1298cc . The engine has the potential to produce a maximum of 80bhp at 6000rpm, while the maximum torque it can produce amounts to 103Nm at 4500rpm. This G13B model contains 4 cylinders with 4 valves per cylinder, with Bore x Stroke being 74.0 X 75.5 mm, and the compression ratio being 9:1. Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI complies with the emission norm of BS IV, with a valve configuration of SOHC and an MPFi fuel supply system. The car provides decent mileage in the city as well as on the highways. The car has been tested to give a mileage of 8.45 kmpl in the city and an increased mileage of 11.96 kmpl on the highways. The acceleration and pick-up of the vehicle are decent, with an acceleration time of 16.4 seconds for it to reach a speed of 100 kmph from 0 kmph . The engine is contrived to reach a decent top speed while giving a balanced and satisfying experience. The fuel tank has a capacity of 40 litres.

Braking and handling

Both the front as well as the rear suspension in the Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI are of Leaf Spring With Double Action Damper With Booster type. There are disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear of Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI. For better grip on the road, tubeless tyres are provided with a tyre size of 205/70 and a wheel size of R15 . The vehicle operates on manual transmission. With a manual steering type, the steering gear is of the rack and pinion type. The turning radius or the wheel base of Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI is 6 metres.

Safety features

Very limited safety features are provided in Maruti Gypsy King Top Hard MPI, which makes the vehicle quite unsafe for the passengers. There is a windshield washer with 3 speed variations in the car. Other than that, there is a hazard warning light , a hydraulic clutch in cooling fan, and an ignition multi-function lever. The car does not come with either ABS with EBD brake system, or EPS and airbags.

Comfort features

The comfort quotient of Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI is hardly satisfactory. Although the seats have fabric upholstery, that's as far as you get. But what must be appreciated is the fact that the makers at least could fit in a reclining and sliding feature on the front seats. Even more remarkable is the adjustable head restraint on the seats which allows for easy seating and accommodation in the car . A horde of essential features are missing such as power steering, power windows, trunk light, headrests or armrests, adjustable seat belts, cup holders, seat lumbar support, cruise control, and parking sensors. Plus, there is not even an air conditioner or a heater in the car .

Pros

Maruti Gypsy King Top Hard MPI is one such car which is meant to hold onto any type of terrain. The engine of the car is a thermal conductive type which works well in both cool and hot environments. The petrol engine is more powerful and more responsive in the harshest of the climatic situations. With four wheel, Maruti Gypsy King Top Hard MPI is capable of working in the roughest of road situations. With the five speed gear-box pattern it delivers high mileage on the highways . It has higher ground clearance of 210 mm to ensure better off-road handling, while driving in hills. Its diaphragm spring clutch is designed to withstand higher rotational speeds and requires less release load, hence reducing the wear of parts. Space inside the car is a much more attractive aspect which validates its demand in various departments like the military and the police.

Cons

The list of cons for Maruti Gypsy King Hard Top MPI are endless. It delivers only average fuel economy and also lacks attractive exteriors or basic features such as an A/C or a heater, or a CD/DVD player.
