Xylo D4 BS III Review

Mahindra Xylo is one of the most popular utility vehicle in India. The company has launched its facelifted version with a few updates. This MUV is available is several trim levels, out of which Mahindra Xylo D4 BSIII is the mid range trim. It is powered by a 2.5-litre, mDI CRDe diesel engine, which comes with a displacement capacity 2489cc. It has the ability to churn out a maximum power of 93.7bhp in combination with 218Nm of torque output. This engine is skilfully mated with an efficient five speed manual transmission gear box, which sends the engine power to its front wheels. The company has given this multi utility vehicle a perfect blend of style and comfort. Coming to the exterior appearance, it is designed with an aggressive front grille, stylish head light cluster, contoured body colored bumper, black colored OVRMs and so on. Its overall dimensions are quite standard and it is designed with a large wheelbase of 2760mm. Its minimum ground clearance is 160mm. It comes with an overall length of 4525mm, a total width of 1770mm, which includes external rear view mirrors and a decent height of 1880mm. Then it has a spacious internal cabin, which gets a new black and beige color scheme. Other features of this Mahindra Xylo trim includes an adjustable steering wheel, surround cool dual AC, small storage compartment in front doors, cup holders and many more. This variant is also blessed with an advanced engine immobilizer, which prevents the vehicle from unauthorized entry.

Exteriors:

The exteriors is designed with a lot of striking features, which gives it a decent look. The signature body colored radiator grille is fitted with a few body colored slats and embedded with a prominent company logo in the center. This grille is flanked by a sleek headlight cluster and adds style to its front facade. The body colored bumper is incorporated with a wide air dam for cooling the engine. Its large windscreen is made of toughened glass and fitted with a set of intermittent wipers. Its side profile has black colored outer door handles and external rear view mirrors. Its wheel arches are fitted with a sturdy set of 15-inch steel wheels, which are covered with tubeless radial tyres size of 205/65 R15. These wheels are also protected with full wheel covers. The company has also been fitted this variant with a side stepper and mud flaps. Its rear end has a black colored bumper that is integrated with a pair of reflectors. The expressive boot lid is embossed with variant badging and it is also fitted with a black colored thick strip. The windscreen is accompanied by a centrally located high mounted stop lamp. At present, it is being offered in six exterior paint options, which are Diamond White, Mist Silver, Toreador Red, Fiery Black, Java Brown and Dolphin Grey metallic finish option. 

Interiors:

The company has done up the interiors of this Mahindra Xylo D4 BSIII variant with new dual tone tone (beige and black) color scheme. Its seating arrangement is very comfortable and provide enough legroom, which gives all the passengers a relaxing driving experience. These seats are covered with premium fabric upholstery, which has PVC inserts . It has spacious boot compartment (460 litres), which can be increased by folding its rear seat. The instrument panel is equipped with a few functions like a digital tachometer, trip meter, low fuel warning light and driver seat belt reminder notification. Its two tone dashboard features a 3-spoke steering wheel, glove box and other aspects as well. Other utility based aspects include a theater effect lamp, bottle and cup holders, roof console with spectacle holder, four courtesy lamps, front seat back pockets and storage compartment in center console. It also has a 12V power socket in center console for charging mobiles and other electronic devices.

Engine and Performance:

This particular variant is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine under the hood, which can displace 2489cc. It is integrated with four cylinders and sixteen valves using a DOHC based valve configuration. This power plant is incorporated with a common rail based direct injection fuel supply system, which allows the MUV to produce 10.3 Kmpl in the city traffic conditions and 13.6 Kmpl on the highways. This motor is skilfully coupled with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which sends the engine power to its front wheels. It has the ability to attain a to speed in the range of 150 to 160 Kmph. At the same time, it can accelerate from zero to 100 Kmph in close to 17 seconds. This diesel mill can churn out a maximum power of 93.7bhp at 3600rpm along with a peak torque output of 218Nm between 1400 to 2600rpm.

Braking and Handling:

The company has equipped this Mahindra Xylo D4 BSIII variant with a proficient braking system along with a reliable suspension mechanism. Its front wheels are fitted with a set of powerful disc brakes, while the rear wheels have been fitted with solid drum brakes. On the other hand, the front axle is assembled with a double wishbone type of mechanism, which has independent front suspension, whereas rear one gets a multi link coil spring. It is blessed with a rack and pinion based power steering wheel, which is tilt adjustable. It supports a minimum turning radius of 5.5 meters.

Comfort Features:

Being the mid range variant it is equipped with quite a few aspects like a very responsive power steering, front power windows, a remote fuel lid opener, a low fuel warning light , a day and night internal rear view mirror, an accessory socket in front console, sun visors with passenger side vanity mirror and so on. It also has a manual HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioner) unit with rear AC vents that keeps the cabin cool.

Safety Features:

The list of protective features include seat belts for all passengers, a central locking system, a high mounted stop lamp and an engine immobilizer. Its rigid body structure has side and front impact beams that protect the occupants sitting inside the cabin in case of any crash. The company has also given a full size spare wheel, which is affixed in the boot compartment with all other tools required for changing a flat tyre.
