XUV500 W4 Review

Mahindra and Mahindra is one of the reputed utility vehicle making brands in our country. Now, it has upgraded its premium SUV XUV 500 in the country. This vehicle not just coming with updated cosmetics, but also gets some improved features. The vehicle is being made available in four variants. Among them, the Mahindra XUV500 W4 variant comes with unique features. Starting off with the specifications, it has a powerful mHawk diesel engine. A key feature of this engine trim is that it has a 5th generation variable geometry turbocharger. The powerplant has a displacement capacity of 2179cc. Turning to a softer side, the external build of the machine remains almost the same. However, a facelift at the front adds to the look. It also has a new front grille with black garnish. The overall exterior dimensions remain about the same. It stretches for a length of 4585mm, with its width at 1890mm. The SUV is large and muscular, standing for a height of 1785mm. Its gross weight is 2510kg. Its tall and hefty profile is further enhanced with a streamlined shape that blends its style with a good performance capacity as well. The roof rails and the full wheel caps together elevate its look even further. It is now available available in two new exterior paints like Sunset Orange and Pearl White. As for the inside of the car, it is large and greatly spacious. It also provides a number of features for comfort and convenience. The safety needs of the large SUV is taken care of, with all standard features and additional themes. It has the Anti lock braking system to improve stability of the drive. Side impact beams, along with crumple zones for crash protection ensure greater protection for the passengers always.

Exteriors:

There is little change in the exterior look of the vehicle, other than the facelift at the front. However, this brings a bolder look for the machine. The front also has all new grille with black garnish. On either side, the headlamp clusters are wide and have projector lamps with S shaped DRLS. A curt air intake sits below the grile, meant to provide cooling to the large engine, and also providing a boost to the looks of the front. The side of the vehicle is unchanged. It has large wheels, with full caps. The body coloured door handles are also a feature for the side profile. The roof rails also balance the vehicle's look by the sides, making it look improved and attractive. The black finish at the bottom of the side profile tops off its appearance. The rear of the vehicle is wider and taller than the front. It is more muscular and toned for a macho look for the large SUV. The tail lamps on either side are wide, incorporated with powerful brake lights along with turn indicators. The tailgate applique with black bezel is a highlight of the rear portion. Twin exhausts are present at the bottom, giving it a dashing and sporty look.

Interiors:

The inside of the SUV is made for comfort. Firstly, it is large and spacious, capable of seating more than most vehicles. The seats are built on ergonomics for the best comfort. Premium black and beige upholstery provides the most classy vision for the inside of the car. In addition to this, it has a range of additional materials decorating the cabin for the most plush feel altogether. Chrome scuff plates are present at the front and rear rows. This is a key feature of the revised version's cabin, and it sends a bold message of lavishness all through the journey. The dual toned dashboard has an integrated cluster hood, an all new addition to the interior of the vehicle. The air conditioning unit is also great, with ducts present for maximum circulation.

Engine and Performance:

As mentioned above, it is packed from the inside with a powerful mHawk diesel engine. This powerplant has a displacement capacity of 2179cc. It generates a peak power of 140hp at 3750rpm. Furthermore, it brings out a maximum torque of 330Nm at 1600-2800rpm. The engine's power is channelled through a 6-speed synchromesh manual gearbox for optimum performance. The SUV can reach a top speed of around 190kmph, which is great for its segment. Also, it can cross the 100kmph mark in around 14 seconds, which is also a strong figure for acceleration.

Braking and Handling:

It has a rather good performance capacity, and its manufacturer ensures that this is aided with a perfect braking system. It has strong disc brakes at the front and rear brakes. They ensure that the machine can rise to good speeds, but can also corner safely and halt quickly. Furthermore, it has an efficient suspension. McPherson struts with anti roll bars arm the front axle. As for the rear axle of the suspension, it has a multi link type axle with anti roll bars. Beside all of this, the vehicle is also equipped with techno aids to further elevate ride stability. It has anti lock braking system, along with electronic brakeforce distribution, and they ensure optimum safety when driving.

Comfort features:

The cabin also provides a single row LCD display for better quality of entertainment. A glove box with a laptop holder provides for the spare needs of the passengers. The six way power adjustable driver's seat ensures that the man behind the wheel is kept in optimum comfort throughout.

Safety features:

As standard safety arrangements, it comes with a set of tight seatbelts for all passengers. Furthermore, it also has dual airbags at the front. Side impact beams ensure collision protection when driving. This is also aided with crumple zones for crash protection. The vehicle also uses techno aids to elevate safety. It has anti lock braking system, ensuring that the stability of the ride is preserved. This is further raised with electronic brake-force distribution.
