City 2015-2017 i DTec SV Review
One of the highly popular automaker, Honda Cars India Limited has introduced the diesel version of its premium sedan Honda City in the country. The company is offering this premium sedan in about five trim levels out of which, the Honda City i DTec SV is the mid level variant. This mid level variant is aggressively priced and packed with impressive features in comparison with other sedans of its class. Powering this sedan is the advanced i-DTEC, 1.5-litre diesel engine, which is the probably the best in terms of fuel efficiency. The manufacturer is saying that the latest Honda City Diesel can deliver a staggering mileage of about 26Kmpl, which is the best figure by any other sedan in its segment. The company has not just introduced the diesel version of the City, but also modified its exteriors along with interiors to make it look refreshing. In terms of exteriors, this sedan gets a sporty bumper, aggressively designed headlight cluster, a new radiator grille and so on. Inside this sedan, the dashboard along with the instrument cluster gets a re-treatment while the seating comforts have been improved. There is no doubt that this sedan is going to throw a tough challenge to other contenders in the segment.
Exteriors :
The exteriors of this sedan received major updates with brand new cosmetics, which makes it look sporty and modern. The company built this sedan on ACE body structure that helped in bringing a striking look to the sedan, while enhancing the safety of the occupants. This sedan has an aerodynamically designed front profile that will get the attention of the car enthusiasts. The company revamped the headlight cluster and incorporated it with powerful halogen lamps along with a turn indicator. In the center, there is a modified radiator grille fitted with a thick chrome slat along with the company logo. The overall front profile of this sedan is dominated by the new sporty design bumper that comes incorporated with an air dam and painted in body color. On the side profile, this sedan looks incredibly sleek in comparison with other sedans of its class. Its wheel arches have been equipped with a sturdy set of steel wheels fitted with full wheel covers. The B-pillar window sills gets the black color garnish, whereas the ORVMs and door handles have been painted in body color. The rear end of this sedan has been improved with a revamped taillight cluster, boot lid and bumper. Also there is a chrome plated strip fitted to the boot lid along with the company logo that accentuates the rear profile.
Interiors :
When it comes to the interiors, the passenger cabin section of this sedan looks magnificent. The company has given a dual tone black and beige color scheme inside the cabin that creates a plush environment. The design of the dashboard gets a bit of tweak and it is accentuated with metallic inserts. The central console of the dashboard is equipped with a number of equipments and control switches for added convenience of the driver and co-passenger. The seats are very luxurious that provides great support to the occupants all the way from shoulders to the knees and they are covered with two tone fabric upholstery. The leg and shoulder space inside the cabin is huge, thanks to the large wheelbase of this sedan. The company installed number of utility based features inside the cabin that takes care of the minimum requirements of the passengers. The list of such features include rear armrest with cup holder, bottle holders, storage compartment, driver seat height adjuster, power outlets, steering mounted audio controls and so on.
Engine and Performance:
Coming to the engine and technicalities, the Honda City i DTec SV mid range trim is equipped with a powerful 1.5-litre, diesel motor that is the most fuel efficient in its class. This sedan is designed with 4-cylinders and 16-valves that produces a total displacement capacity of about 1498cc . This engine incorporated with a direct fuel injection system that allows it to churn out a maximum 98bhp of power at 3600rpm, while generating a peak torque output of 200Nm at just 1750rpm . This commanding torque output is delivered to the front wheels of the sedan via a 6-speed manual transmission gearbox. It will allow the engine to deliver a flawless performance and enable it vehicle to generate a peak mileage of 26 Kmpl, which is quite impressive.
Braking and Handling:
The front wheels of this sedan have been equipped with a set of high performance disc brakes, whereas its rear wheels have been assembled with drum brakes. This combination works exceptionally well and offers a reliable performance irrespective of the road and weather conditions. Also there is an advanced anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution mechanism , which will enhance the braking aspects of this sedan. On the other hand, the company incorporated a power assisted steering system that offers a precise response to the driver and makes it easy in heavy traffic.
Comfort Features:
One of the most impressive aspects about this sedan is its level of comfort. The space inside the cabin is huge and it provides a luxurious feel to all the occupants inside the cabin, while the features will take care of all their needs. The list of features includes a proficient air conditioning unit with climate control, a power steering system with tilt function, all four power windows with driver side auto up and down function, driver seat height adjuster, rear defogger, rear seat armrest, rear defogger, central locking function , rear seat armrest, and lots of other aspects. Also the company is offering a provision to incorporate a music system while providing the audio control buttons on the steering wheel.
Safety Features:
The Honda City i DTec SV mid level variant is bestowed with advanced security and protective functions. One of the most important aspect of this vehicle is its Pedestrian Injury Mitigation Technology that minimizes the damages and improves the road safety. Also its ACE body structure maximizes the protection to the passenger cabin by diverting the energy when collision is caused. The list of features include an immobilizer system, ABS with EBD , a wave key function, cruise control system, dual front airbags, driver seat belt reminder, high mount stop lamp and other advanced functions.
