MSIL is planning to add another new model in its stable, and this time, it will be the 7-seater version of Wagon R. Its concept was first showcased at 2013 Indonesian Motor Show that garnered a lot of attention of car enthusiasts. After its entry in the market, it may be positioned as a mini MPV under the popular Ertiga model. It is anticipated to go on sale in 2016 and is estimated to be priced between Rs. 4 to 6 lakhs (ex-showroom). This Maruti Wagon R MPV may compete with Honda Mobilio, Datsun Go Plus and Tata Venture as well in this segment. According to various reports, it might retain the same wheelbase dimensions but the overall length may be increased further so as to incorporate the third row seat. On the whole, the cabin might be indeed roomy with enough leg and shoulder space, but with this addition, there might be no space left for luggage unless the third row seat is folded or unused.
Several useful and styling aspects can be expected in its interiors. It might get a power assisted steering column, advanced instrument cluster and a few storage spaces. An air conditioner may also be present for the purpose of creating a pleasant ambiance inside. Also, it might probably come along with heater and helps in adjusting the temperature as required. The manufacturer might also offer an integrated audio unit, which may feature a radio tuner, CD player and even support a USB drive. Besides these, all its variants are anticipated to have some practical features that may help for a hassle free and comfortable driving experience. This list may have remote fuel filler, sunvisors, remote boot release, rear wiper with washer and a few more aspects.
As per the leaked pictures, this vehicle's dimensions seem to be slightly increased in terms of its length. However, various reports state that it will get the same wheelbase. Looks like the automaker has fitted tinted glasses both in its front and rear profiles. The large headlight cluster and chrome treated radiator grille will be the main attraction in its frontage. A set of conventional steel wheels can be clearly noticed on the sides, with attractive wheel covers adorning them. The potential buyers can also expect it to come with roof rails, which will only add to its appearance. On the other hand, its rear end seems more interesting in terms of design and style. The thick chrome strip positioned on its boot lid and the bright tail light cluster are probably the main elements that make its rear end look more captivating. On the safety front too, the company seems to have taken every possible step that might help in providing maximum passenger safety. Some of the vital aspects it may come with include remote control centralized lock, rear windscreen with defogger, collapsible steering wheel, side impact beams and seat belts for all its occupants, which helps prevent injury in the event of a collision.
As far as its technical specifications are concerned, this seven seater will mostly be equipped with a 1.0-litre, K-series petrol drive train that currently powers its hatchback sibling. This mill is compliant with BS IV emission norms and based on a double overhead camshaft valve configuration. It is said to deliver a maximum power of 67bhp at 6200rpm besides generating a peak torque output of 90Nm at 3500rpm. Mostly, it will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission gear box that can further help in its good performance. However, the customers might also be given a diesel engine option to select from. But still, no source has confirmed about this yet.
