    BMW 7 Series expert overview

BMW’s flagship sedan, the BMW 7 Series, is all set to get a facelift on September 11. Bookings for the updated version are already underway. While the 7 Series is already very well equipped and luxurious, BMW has managed to make it look even more modern and premium with this facelift.

    BMW 7 Series Front Quarter

In the Indian market, the BMW 7 Series goes up against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Now, before the new 2026 BMW 7 Series facelift is launched, let’s check out all the updates it gets and what it has to offer.

On the outside the new 7 Series looks very much like the outgoing version, but the ones with keen eyes can easily spot the differences. In the updated version, you get an illuminated kidney grille that’s even larger than before. The grille now also has horizontal slats instead of the vertical ones.

The DRL unit remains as sleek and sharp as before, but it has been split into two different pieces, and the LED headlamps are now square units and have also been placed vertically and towards the sides. The overall bumper design has also been updated to look more slimmer. The side profile sees minimum changes as the silhouette, the window line, and the flush-fitting door handles remain unchanged. However, BMW has redesigned the 20-inch alloy wheels for this update.

At the back the LED tail lamps now stretch further into the tailgate and almost look connected. The tail lamps also have a smoked effect, while the bumper has been redesigned here as well, and the reflectors have been placed vertically towards the sides to give the back a sportier look.

Inside, the changes are more apparent. BMW has completely redesigned the dashboard and the new version can also come with a grey and white cabin theme, instead of the beige one offered with the outgoing 7 Series.

BMW has also redesigned the steering wheel as the new one comes with a four-spoke unit with a larger and more vertically oriented area for steering mounted controls.

The crystal-like glass strip running across the width of the dashboard has been removed and now you get a slim screen near the windshield which also acts as the driver’s display. The centre console has been tweaked slightly with less buttons but the centre armrest and seat design remains more or less the same.

There are changes in the feature list as well because the new 7 Series comes with a bigger 17.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This screen replaces the older smaller unit and it is also shaped differently with six sides. This screen supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and it is paired with an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

Next to this screen is a new 14.6-inch front passenger display, and other features include wireless phone chargers, multi-zone climate control, a panoramic glass roof, and electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation, massage, and lumbar adjustment.

    BMW 7 Series Panoramic Sunroof

You also get more ambient lighting all around the cabin for a more premium feel and the automatic doors have also been tweaked for better operation. Rear seat passengers get a 31.3-inch 8K resolution screen which pops down with the click of a button. This screen supports OTT apps to watch movies or TV shows while on the go and now also gives you the option to play games and also attend video calls.

In terms of safety, the facelifted 7 Series is expected to come with the same set of equipment like seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill hold assist, and a 360-degree camera with a blind spot monitor.

Just like the outgoing version, it can also be equipped with Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) and can offer features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, high beam assist, and autonomous emergency braking.

With the new 7 Series, we expect the powertrain options to remain the same as the outgoing version, the details of which have been mentioned in the table below. Do note that the India-spec model is likely to be a petrol-only offering.

Both these engines also get a 48V electric motor assist which adds 18 PS and 200 Nm. For those who don’t want to buy the ICE (internal combustion engine) version of the 7 Series, they can have a look at the BMW i7, its electric counterpart.
