Nissan India has come out all guns blazing with a 328% growth in sales for the month of April, amidst a slumping car market. The company sold 5,301 vehicles in April 2014 against 1,239 vehicles in April 2013 with their latest Datsun GO contributing to over 50% of the sales with 2691 units. Nissan Terrano has also attributed majorly for the stupendous growth.

Mr. Kenichiro Yomura, President, Nissan Group of India said, “We are witnessing an encouraging growth in our sales. We ended FY-13 on a high and have begun the new financial year with a healthy 328% year-on-year growth for the month of April. Our focus is to continue this trend going forward.”

Datsun Go

Datsun Go, which was launched in India on March 19, has had a glorious start in sales. Priced competitively from Rs.3.12 lakhs for the base variant and goes on till Rs.3.69 lakhs for the top variant. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi. The Go is powered by 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine, the same that sits under the hood of Nissan Micra, producing 68 PS of maximum power at 5,000 rpm and 104 Nm of maximum torque at 4,000 rpm. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the Go offers a fuel economy of 20.63 kms per litre.

On the other side, Nissan’s own Duster, the Terrano that was launched in October 2013 also has been receiving great response. Rather than just being just a shared product of Renault, Nissan has made significant changes to the Terrano to differentiate itself from the Duster. As is the case with Duster, the Terrano is also offered in three engine options - 1.6-litre petrol and two versions of 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre 85 PS diesel are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while the 110 PS diesel is given a 6-speed gearbox.

Recently, Nissan also became the second largest car exporter in India, grabbing the position away from Maruti Suzuki, exporting over 1.16 lakh units over Maruti Suzuki’s 1.01 lakh units. Now, Nissan has Hyundai in its sight, which remains the country’s largest car exporter with 2.33 lakh units. Nissan is also looking forward for the launch of new Sunny facelift to push the sales momentum further. The new Nissan Sunny facelift will be coming with new larger headlights, chrome plated grille, new fog light inserts, new side mirror designs etc. Inside, the new Sunny will get steering mounted controls with Bluetooth connectivity for music and mobile phones, push button ignition etc.
