Mitsubishi is planning to bring to Indian roads its Outlander Crossover which is being sold in a 7-seater avatar in the auto markets abroad. Also a brand new 2013 version of Outlander had been unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and this new car might take one complete year to make an entry in the Indian car market. Mitsubishi plans to launch this new 2013 version of Outlander in their home market of Japan later this year and then it would release it in other countries. Till the release of the 2013 version of outlander, the Indian car market will just see the 7-seater Outlander Crossover. In India this car would be known as the LX variant and is expected not to lose any equipment. The Japanese firm is bringing this crossover at a price of Rs. 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom) resulting in a good Rs. 1 lakh price drop.

The whole move of reducing the price of fully equipped version has been done in order to drive the sales to put up with the dipping sales of the 5-seater version that lacks a diesel variant. The Indian car market will have to wait for Mitsubishi to announce the final specifications of the LX variant, whether they would be same as the 5-seater version or not. However, the extra couple of seats would be the jump seats which appear to be quite cramped and would not prove to be much comfortable for longer distances. The jump seats have one advantage though; they can be easily folded and moved out of the way in order to exploit the entire boot space as and when required.

To some, the jump seats might look like a bit of compromise on the comfort for functionality of the Outlander 7-seater variant. At a full Rs. 1 lakh less the 7-seater variant of Mitsubishi Outlander with no features being peeled down is a pretty good deal even with the jump seats. Next year, the launch of the latest 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander will replace the current version in the Indian auto market. Both the second and the third rows of this new car will sport 50:50 split seats. Also, to the utter delight of the customers, the third row of the 2013 version of Outlander will lose the jump seats of the current 7-seater model and will be fixed with comfort seats.
