  • Audi joins the luxury EV space in India with the launch of the e-tron SUV.

  • It is offered in three variants: e-tron 50, e-tron 55, and Sportback 55.

  • The top variants offer up to 484km of range from a 95kWh battery pack.

  • As a luxury offering, it is fitted with multiple displays, plush upholstery and a panoramic glass roof.

  • The e-tron rivals the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQC and Jaguar I-Pace.

The Audi e-tron electric SUV has finally been launched in India with prices starting from Rs 99.99 lakh. It made its global debut in 2018 and was first showcased in India in 2019. The e-tron is available in India in two body types and three variants, which are priced as follows:

Variant

Price

e-tron 50

Rs 99.99 lakh

e-tron 55

Rs 1.16 crore

e-tron Sportback 55

Rs 1.17 crore

All prices are ex-showroom, pan India

The numbers in the variant name of the e-tron denote the range and performance on offer. The e-tron 50 has a 71kWh battery pack and the dual-motor setup has a peak output of 313PS of power and 540Nm of torque with a claimed WLTP (World Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) range between 264-379km. Those e-trons with ‘55’ in their name get the larger 95kWh battery pack, electric motors that offer upto 408PS and 664Nm, and a WLTP range of 359-484km.

Both variants support fast charging but only the 55s are capable of up to 150kW DC charging. The paddle shifters on the e-tron help control the three levels of regenerative braking that also helps recuperate energy to extend range.

Then we have the body types. As the name suggests, the e-tron Sportback has a sportier rear end thanks to its coupe-like sloping roofline, a design trait also seen on similarly styled variants of other luxury SUVs. While the SUV body style is like that of a regular Audi with a combustion engine, the Sportback adds that extra visual flair that matches an electric SUV’s off-the-line performance. The e-tron 55 Sportback has a claimed 0-100kmph time of just 5.7 seconds.

While the exterior of the e-tron may seem familiar to other Audi SUVs, the interior is where the electric SUV shows off its cutting-edge modernity. It has Audi’s latest virtual cockpit for the 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a heads-up display, a 10.1-inch central touchscreen infotainment system and an 8.6-inch touchscreen display below it for the four-zone climate control. The e-tron also offers a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Audi is also offering various incentives for its early EV customers by way of complimentary charging facilities and comprehensive service packages tailored for the e-tron. Those who buy an e-tron in 2021 get a complimentary wall box charger with the 11kW AC portable charger that is offered as standard.

The Audi e-tron will be taking on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQC and Jaguar I-Pace in the luxury electric SUV segment. In its base variant, the e-tron is the most affordable luxury electric SUV in India but it also offers less range.
