February 12, 2014: The Indian utility and passenger car maker, Tata Motors unveiled its Tata Nexton compact SUV segment at the 2014 Auto Expo. This compact SUV is anticipated to be launched by early 2015 and will compete with popular compact SUVs like Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. Added to this, the Nexton SUV is based on an all new X1 platform and will come powered by an efficient 1.2 L petrol mill that will have potential to churn peak power of 110 PS. Tata Motors, one of the largest automakers in India has officially unveiled the concept version of the Tata Jump aka Nexon at the Indian Auto Expo 2014. It is yet another sub 4 meter SUV from the company and it will be placed in the emerging compact SUV segment. This new compact SUV is expected to get the recently showcased 1.2-litre Revotron petrol power plant and it will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. The design of this Nexon compact SUV comes with youth oriented aspects and it also illustrates the company's latest design language. The company has developed this new sub 4 meter vehicle based on three important fundamentals such as DriveNext, ConnectNext and DesignNext. To start with the DriveNext initiative, this sub-4-meter length vehicle comes fitted with a newly developed 1.2-litre, Revotron petrol power plant, which is expected to in between a 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated gearbox and 5-speed F-Tronic type manual gearbox. Apart from this, the company could also offer this vehicle with an electric power assisted steering system with active return function that redefines the driving dynamics.
As part of the DesignNext principle, the new Tata Nexon compact SUV comes with a youth oriented body design with company's new signature grille, sleekly design headlight cluster, rugged bumper and other styling aspects. To start with the frontage, the company has unveiled this concept SUV with a modern design, but the actual production version may arrive with a different design like that in the Tata Zest and Bolt. It comes with a honeycomb front radiator grille with humanity lines just above it along with the company logo in the center. Also, it is expected to be equipped with a HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning) controls, which will enhance the level of conveniences and comforts. On the other hand, the company may also offer this concept SUV with advanced safety aspects including the improved anti lock braking system with cornering stability program, which will enhance the braking mechanism of the vehicle. The overall look of this concept version is quite attractive and its production version is expected to be striking than any other Tata vehicle.
The company while unveiling the vehicle has promised that the concept Tata Nexon will be placed in the sub-4-meter segment. According to the details, this vehicle will come with a total length of 4000mm along with a total width of 1730mm. It is expected to come with a total height of 1600 and with a ground clearance of above 180mm. What truly is impressive about this vehicle is its wheelbase of 2540mm, which is quite large in this sub-4-meter segment.
The concept version of Tata Nexon, which is yet to be sent for final production is expected to come with a state-of-the-art interior design.
