July 3, 2014: Ford India has increased the prices of its compact SUV Ford EcoSport from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000-depending upon the variant and dealership location. With the price hike of 1 per cent, the automaker is trying to mend the gap of production cost and retail cost. Ford has only increased the prices of its compact SUV EcoSport while the prices of the other car models will remain same. The base petrol 1.5-litre TiVCT AMBIENTE variant now starts with Rs 6,33,973 while for the EcoBoost Titanium and Titanium Optional its Rs 8,64,620 and Rs 9,17,665 respectively. Prices of diesel model are also hiked and now its in the bracket of Rs 7,39,456 to Rs 9,73,067 (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
July 11, 2014: As the demand of all wheel drive (4x4) compact SUVs is increasing in India, the French automaker Renault has decided to introduce the 4x4 edition of Duster in September 2014. Launched in 2012, the Duster has been the game-changing vehicle for Renault. The Duster at the moment is available with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and two tunes of the 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine. All the variants at the moment are available only with a front-wheel drive (two-wheel drive). The Chennai-plant already manufactures the 4x4 variant and exports it to the United Kingdom as Dacia Duster. The same specifications Duster will be launched in India too.
June 5, 2014: Mahindra and Mahindra, India's leading SUV maker launched the special edition of Mahindra XUV500 christened as 'XUV500 Sportz'. The XUV500 Sportz is available at a price tag of INR 13.68 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai) ; only 1000 limited edition variants will be produced. The special edition SUV comes loaded with body decals; new set of alloys; rear parking camera; leather-fabric upholstery; red colored door, roof rails and fog lamp housing. The XUV500 also comes with 'Sportz' badging. Mechanically, the SUV remained unaltered, comes powered by the same 2.2 liter m-Hawk engine churning out 140bhp of max power and 330Nm of max torque. It is mated to a six speed manual transmission.
July 09, 2014: Mahindra & Mahindra in order to rectify the inconsistent functioning of pressure regulating valve has recalled the ‘'Ex' variant of Scorpio SUV. The recall covers 23,519 units of the base model which were manufactured between May 2012 to November 2013. This recall is only limited to the Scorpio Ex variant manufactured during the said period and does not affect any other Scorpio variants. Moreover, this is not the first time company has recalled its rugged SUV. The same 'Ex' variant was recalled last year, produced during October and November 2013 for faulty pressure regulating valves.
October 21, 2013: Toyota Kirloskar Motor has introduced the Fortuner TRD Sportivo - Limited Edition for Rs. 24,26,247/- (ex showroom Delhi). The limited edition will be limited to 400 units, and will be sold till the month of December 2013. It will be available in the 4x4 MT variant and comes equipped with several features, which makes it look more sporty. September 19, 2013: India's leading utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra has now updated its flagship sedan Thar, basis on the feedback received by customers. The most important update made to the Thar is a new cross bar between the A and B-Pillar to improve rigidity. Also,the fixed flange setup has been replaced by the auto locking hubs at the front axle. There are few interior changes too have been made, and most important of those is the headroom enhancement by lowering the rear seats by 6-7mm.
October 9, 2013 : Nissan India has finally launched the Terrano SUV in India for Rs. 9.58 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai) . The Terrano is based on the highly popular Duster, however, the company has made enough changes to make it look different and refresh. While, the front facade of the SUV gets new bumper, an all-new grille and headlamps, the rear sports a new tail-lights. February 27, 2014 : Audi India relaunches its entry level Q3 S Edition at the price of Rs. 24.37 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This time the vehicle costs Rs. 62,000 lesser than the earlier model. Also the company's official website sends out information that the bookings for Q3 S has already been started with zero down payments. April 29, 2014: Ford India has launched the new 2014 Ford Endeavour at Rs.19.83 lakhs. The SUV sports an entire new front fascia which includes refreshed bold grille, bezel fog lamps, redesigned headlamps along with the bumper skid plate. The mildly facelifted Endeavour will be available in three variants - 4x2 MT, 4x2 AT and 4x4 AT. Inside the cabin, the SUV houses new leather upholstery, touch-screen SATNAV entertainment system with Navigation, audio system with bluetooth connectivity and reverse parking camera. December 16, 2013: BMW, the German luxury carmaker has officially revealed the 2014 BMW X1 ahead of its global unveiling at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show. The new X1 now features a new air intake vents in the front apron, daytime driving lights and a 17-inch light alloy wheels with V-spoke design. The company has also added a new sparkling Brown metallic exterior paint. The interiors of the BMW xLine, Sport Line and M Sport package are also updated. The instrument cluster visor is covered with soft-touch material highlighted by lapfolded seams to add to the premium elegance. May 6, 2014 : India's home-grown automaker Mahindra has launched a new variant of the Ssangyong Rexton, the RX6 which will be added to the existing model range of Rexton as a mid-variant. The RX6 inherits the basic mechanics from the RX5 that is the entry level variant and all features from RX7 that is the top end variant. The newly launched RX6 comes with manual transmission along with host of features and is priced at Rs 19.96 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) . May 30, 2014: Force Motors introduces 4-wheel-drive Force One LX at a price tag of Rs 13.98 lakh (Ex-Showroom Delhi). 8th April, 2013: The homegrown automaker, Premier has now launched the facelifted Rio (called as T200 there) in China recently, the similar vehicle is likely to make its Indian debut as well, however we are not sure about the timeline of the launch as of now. While the engine of the vehicle has remained the same, the newly launched compact SUV has got changes both inside and out. The Rio facelift receives new front fascia with redesigned headlamps, a more aggressive triple-slat grille and a contemporary looking bumper with a new set of fog-lamps. May 15, 2014: Mercedes Benz have launched their all new ML63 AMG at a whopping price of Rs 1.49 crore. Only last month, the Germany based premium automaker launched GL63 AMG. August 14, 2013: General Motors India has now introduced the facelifted Chevrolet Captiva with cosmetic changes both on the exterior and interior. But one major change given to the facelifted Captiva is the addition of new 6-speed manual gearbox transmission variant in the line-up, which is a rear-wheel driven version. The exterior changes include revised bumpers, new front grille, new LED tail lamps and newly designed 18-inch alloys. The lower variants of the car have received a new upholstery. Other changes include a larger infotainment screen, ambient lighting and heated rear seat. Price for both the Manual and automatic versions are kept the same.
10 January, 2013 : India's second largest luxury car maker, Audi has finally launched the updated Audi Q5 today in India at a starting price of Rs. 43.16 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Launched in a total three engine options- 2.0-litre petrol and 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre diesel engines, the 2013 Q5 has been priced between Rs. 43.16 and 48.71 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The new Audi Q5 has largely remained the same in design except some positive changes like upgraded hexagonal grille, new fog lamps, all new headlamps along with surround day time lamps and updated tail lamps and a new rear diffuser at the back. But what has come as even a bigger and happier news is the fact that all three engines now return more power and 15% improved fuel efficiency.
February 5, 2014: Isuzu Motors has unveiled MU7 SUV at the Indian Auto Expo 2014 help at Delhi. Its in-line four cylinder 2,999cc intercooled variable geometry turbocharged diesel engine renders 160.7bhp at 3,600rpm and peak torque of 360Nm between 1,800 to 2,800rpm. Priced at Rs 23.75 lakhs (ex-showroom Hyderabad) this seven-seater will lock horns with the likes of Toyota Fortuner. It will be manufactured locally, as reported. A D-Max model has also been introduced along with it, which has the same design but comes at a comparatively lower price.
13 March, 2013 : Land Rover has launched the Freelander 2 via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route at a base model price of Rs. 38.67 lakh (Ex-showroom, Mumbai) . This re-vamped Freelander 2 has been improved in terms of comfort and convenience and features changes to its colour options, exterior design and upgraded equipment. These include a brand new centre console, 7-inch colour touch-screen with enhanced audio systems from Meridian, and a fully integrated navigation system. Other improvements include a passive start function, an intelligent parking brake and a rear view camera. Freelander 2 comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 148bhp on the SE version, while the HSE gets a power output of 188bhp.
May 17, 2014: The Czech automobile manufacturer Skoda is all geared up to launch facelift version of its Yeti in July this year. The new Yeti comes with an array of alterations in exteriors as well as in interiors. It comes in two variants, Yeti and Yeti Outdoor. The former is ideal for urban demographic usage while the latter one is more suited for off-roading enthusiasts. The top variant of Yeti sports powerful 2.0-litre TDI engine that is capable of producing maximum power of 108bhp. Safety features like HHC (Hill Hold Control), ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution) and HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assistant) have been added to make this vehicle safer to drive. Despite the incorporation of new features, Yeti still lacks the automatic DSG gearbox that may disappoint some of its prospective buyers.
July 25, 2014: Porsche revealed the facelifted version of Cayenne ahead of Paris Motor Show where it was earlier supposed to be unveiled. The facelifted version features a larger grille, a new bumper, redesigned air ducts and LED headlamps. Mechanically, Cayenne S carries a 3.6-litre bi-turbo V6 engine, rated at 414 bhp and 550 Nm of peak torque. Porsche Cayenne is capable to achieve 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 259 km/h.
April 25, 2014: Porsche is soon going to introduce an entry level Macan with a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces max power of 237bhp at 5000-6800 rpm and top torque of 350Nm in between 1500rpm to 4500rpm. The motor allows the car to accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 6.9 seconds and achieves top speed of 223kmph. It is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) automatic gearbox. Porsche Macan is based on Audi Q5 platform and will compete against Land Rover Evoque, Audi Q5, Mercedes Benz ML-Class and BMW X5. The other engine is a 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine that churns 400bhp and the diesel car features a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel producing 258bhp.
April 15, 2014: Mercedes-Benz India today launched the GL63 AMG in India at Rs 1.66 Crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Apart from all the AMG traits, this seven seater car houses a 5.5-litre, twin-turbo, V8 AMG engine with belts out power of 557 bhp and torque of 760Nm. The engine is coupled to AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-TRONIC gearbox. The enormous 5.5-litre, V8 AMG engine enables the car to achieve 0 to 100 kmph in mere 4.9 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. The car is up against the likes of Range Rover Sport and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
July 25, 2014 : BMW seeing the growing demand of SUV segment in India, is all set to launch the facelift version of X3 in August. The automaker already showcased the facelift version in Geneva Motor Show, earlier this year. The facelift version of BMW X3 gets newly designed LED headlamps, redesigned front and rear bumper. The updated model is powered by 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine which churns a power of 187bhp in xDrive mode and 147bhp in sDrive mode. The engine transfers power via ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox.
December 5, 2013: Toyota Kirloskar Motor has silently launched the new Land Cruiser Prado in India at the price of Rs 84.87 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), and the bookings for the same have already been started. The company went on upgrading the SUV at its exterior front, while certain additional features are also added inside the vehicle. The exterior changes include fog lamps, newly designed headlamps, new front grille, bumper and rear combination lamp. At the rear, the car gets new license plate garnish and LED headlamps with DRLs (daytime running lamps). 8 December,2012: Suzuki unveiled the Grand Vitara facelift version in the Japanese market in July 2012 and since then this version in Australia,Russia and China. Finally the Japanese auto major has launched the newfangled Grand Vitara in UK. The vehicle is launched with a full spare wheel with 225/70 tire on the tailgate which increases the length of the vehicle by 200mm on the five door models and 170mm on three door models.The cabin area bells and whistles have been borrowed from Ritz, SX4 and Swift. The seat design is trimmed and a 6.1 inch touchscreen Colour Navigation System have got on board. The music system supports CD, radio, SD card, media player connected via the USB port as well as Bluetooth streaming. The 1.9L DDiS engine is tweaked to increase the fuel efficiency and reduce environmental emission. The price is marked as £15,995 (Rs.13.96 Lakh). Maruti Suzuki India is mulling to locally produce this vehicle in future and is speculated to launch in the year 2013. Whether the 1.9L DDiS engine is going to make it to the Indian shores is still speculated, however the Vitara facelift is definitely going to heat up the already boiling SUV market.
16 April 2012: Mitsubishi Montero upgraded version was rolled out by Hindustan Motors with a price tag of Rs.7.99 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi). February 19, 2014: Land Rover Range Rover LWB has finally been launched in India at the price of Rs. 2.08 crore. The top level model costs Rs. 2.63 crore for respective Indian buyers. The luxurious SUV was unveiled at 2014 Auto Expo. As the name suggests, the wheelbase has been strecthed out by 186mm thereby offers 140mm of extra legroom for second row occupants. The SUV is offered with both petrol land diesel guise- 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine and 4.4-litre V8 diesel mill. The petrol engine puts up maximum power of 510bhp and 625Nm of top torque, while the diesel offers 339bhp of top power. The diesel variant is also available with a 3.0-litre drivetrain which produces 256bhp and 600Nm of torque. June 4, 2014: Force Motors has finally announced the availability of Force Gurkha at their dealership from September 2014. The SUV is available in three variants - 2WD soft top priced at Rs 6.25 lakh, 4WD at Rs 8.35 lakh soft top and 4WD hard top at Rs 8.5 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. The SUV still carries the same 2.6 litre Mercedes OM 616 derived turbo charged intercooled engine which develops a power of 81bhp and peak torque of 230 Nm at 1800-2000 rpm. The engine is coupled to a 5 speed synchromesh transmission. The SUV features some unique features such as differential locks on both front and rear axles, distinctive air intake “Snorkel” in sparkling chrome.
January 28, 2014: Renault India has launched the much anticipated SUV, the all-new Renault Koleos in India. While the same SUV will be displayed at the upcoming Delhi Motor show'14. On the exterior front, the vehicle showcases an imposing and a stunning looking front grille. On the other hand, the interiors sports several premium features like, cruise control, hill assist and a button to toggle between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. As far as under the info is concerned, the SUV is powered with the same 2.0-litre diesel engine, combined to a six-speed manual transmission, that belts out top power of 148bhp and 320Nm of torque. This mill delivers fuel economy of 17.15kmpl. While, the other model in the range is tuned in a way to offer more power output of 171bhp and 360Nm of torque. In this case, the power is transmitted to all four wheels through a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission. And the mileage figures of 16.26kmpl and 14.56kmpl are respectively offered through them. All the variants are priced in the price bracket of Rs. 22.32 lakh to Rs. 26.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
13 August, 2012: Conquest Vehicle Inc. introduced its first unarmored SUV in India, Evade. This army style vehicle come with new body style, design and aesthetics that includes all new headlamps and tail lights, sleeker fender flares, redesigned grille, hood scoop and a wider backdoor. The rear end side now features a step to make the access easy and there is a third tandem sunroof in the new vehicle. Conquest Evade is spawned on Ford F550 Super Duty chassis and the heavy duty body is an all aluminium-mild steel bend translating into a much lighter body. Evade is scheduled to come out this fall and with a price tag of Rs.8.5 Crore making it the most expensive SUV in the Indian car market.
October 23, 2013: Volvo, the Swedish luxury carmaker has introduced the updated XC60 crossover in the country for Rs. 40.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Like S60 sedan, the crossover also gets the new family look, better interiors, new features and slightly tweaked engine. It features a broader front facade with wider grille and restyled headlight assembly. The vehicle now sports a new multimedia system, a seven-inch touch screen and a new digital TFT instrument cluster with three modes. The automatic XC60 now has three spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters mounted on it. The other components added to the crossover are leather seats, LED daytime running light and dual exhaust tail pipe. It is being offered with eight different colours - Black Metallic, Electric Silver, Caspian Blue, Twilight Bronze, Flamenco Red Pearl, Crystal White Pearl, Bright Silver Metallic and Rich Java.
19 February, 2013 : Mercedes-Benz India launched the eagerly awaited G63 AMG at a price tag of Rs. 1.46 crore (Ex-showroom, Mumbai) . The new G63 AMG replaces the current G55 AMG however, much of the G-Wagen SUV remains similar in looks. The SUV does get a more aggressive look thanks to the new two-slat grille, revised bumper with larger air ducts, 20-inch wheels and other changes. In terms of mechanical changes, we see the new G63 AMG comes with a new 5.5-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine mated to a 7-speed 7Hg-tronic gearbox. This new powertrain belts out 544bhp. The G63 AMG does the 0-100 kmph run in a mere 5.4 seconds.
October 18, 2013: Land Rover India has finally introduced the 2014 Range Rover Sport in the Indian car market for Rs. 1.09 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The new Range Rover Sport is being offered in four variants - S, SE, HSE and the Autobiography. It is based on the new light-weight aluminium platform, which makes it 420kgs lighter than the current model. Available in a two tone paint job, it gets a restyled grille, new headlights and a sporty body kit that features a rear spoiler. The vehicle also comes equipped with various advanced features like traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, park assist and others. The new Range Rover Sport is available in both petrol and diesel guise - a 3.0-litre V6 diesel and the 5.0-litre petrol V8. While the supercharged petrol develops 509bhp, the diesel engine churns out 293bhp. Both engines have been coupled to a ZF eight speed gearbox.
June 07, 2014: The next generation Volvo's XC90 will now feature Bower & Wilkins audio system. The music system is based on the bespoke acoustic technology which is developed over five decades of extensive research. The company uses low-distortion speaker designs along with extended range aluminium tweeters and Kevlar midrange units. The system comprises of a 12 channel HARMAN 1,400 watts Class D amplifier which powers 19 Bowers & Wilkins speakers – 7 Nautilus tweeters (25 mm) with the latest treble technology, 7 midrange speakers (5x100 mm and 2x80 mm).
5th-Mar-2012: Land Rover Discovery 4, the car that was showcased in the movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, was launched back in 2011. Land Rover has produced one million Land Rover Discovery cars across the globe, 23 years after Land Rover introduced its original model. Land Lover Discovery 4 sits between Range Rover and the rugged Defender. To celebrate its millionth vehicle made at UK plant, Land Rover launched ‘Journey of Discovery’. The Millionth and two other Discovery cars will be embarking on a 50-day, 8,000 mile 'Journey of Discovery' from its birthplace in Birmingham to Beijing in China which is one of Land Rover's fastest growing markets. The Land Rover Discovery can seat seven passengers, has a load space volume of up to 2,500 liters and is packed with technology including Land Rover's award-winning Terrain Response System. These vehicles will be travelling through 13 countries across Europe and Central Asia, culminating at the Beijing motor show on 23 April. This will help Land Rover in launching a fund raising project for supporting a much needed water sanitation project in Uganda.
