Pros : good driving feel, elegantly styled, spacious, brand name

Cons : slightly hard clutch feel

Look and Style :: Elegant, Simple, Robust, solid feel, pleasant ivory interiors, wider tyres Comfort :: Good driving comfort, spacious both at front and rear seats with good legspace, adjustable driver seat height, comfortable gear handle position Pickup :: slightly less in first gear at low engine rpm - if rpm is raised and clutch is engaged good pickup - checked up with dealer who said that acceleration at first gear would be good at 2000rpm Mileage :: just covered 250 kms - gave 11 kmpl in city traffic conditions (chennai) Best Features :: Smooth gear shift, soft steering, stable at turnings, almost nil cabin noise, spacious, air bags for both driver & front passenger, warnings for headlight on Needs to improve :: clutch has a slightly hard feel - can make it a bit soft. Dealer confirms that the clutch feel would be slightly hard in all SKODA models. Dealer recommended using the clutch foot rest appropriately to reduce fatigue during clutch pedal operation. Minimum gear changes also recommended during driving so that use of clutch is minimised Overall Experience :: excellent. Satisfied. Enjoying my driving a lot. A few of my friends who drive the car gave positive comments (eventhough some felt it was slightly costlier). But everyone agreed that drive feel and handling is very good.  For prospective buyers the above points should help positively in going in for this car However, please make note of some features which will be missing for this price 1) Fuel lid opener is manual using key 2) Reverse Indication Lamp is only on the left side at rear and fog lamp is only on the right side at the rear - of course these features are not so important to prevent you from selecting this car

hav u installed rear power windows?

    Dasaradhi |04 Jul,2011 09:39:23 PM

No, I have not installed rear power windows. Because any additions over and above the standard features of the given variant will cost quite a bit for Skoda as the parts are a bit expensive. I had fitted MP3 player, rear speakers, seat leather cover, steering over and sunfilm outside at a reputed shop as the cost would be lesser than at the showroom

There are so many other things (nice) u get with the top end, like keyless entry, front fog lamps, mag wheels, ABS, stereo with aux input, rear power windows, a display, etc. However, it is at a cost of 1 additional lakh. I may go in for the Ambiente, although I really wish I could pick up the Elegance..

Yes. You are right. Budget permitting, elegance would be the ideal. But otherwise Ambiente is OK. I have now driven my car for 1200 kms. Regarding mileage, following is my analysis 10.5 kms per litre at 100% city ride with lot of short drives and tops and with AC ON for 100% of ride and without switching of engine at traffic signals 11.0 to 11.5 kms per litre - same condition as above but engine switched OFF at signals 13.0 to 13.5 kms per litre at combination of city ride and out-of-city ride (in my case i got a total of 197 kms at a combination of 110 kms city ride and 87 kms out-of-city ride for Rs.1000 of petrol which is 14.82 litres) Above mileage achieved through judicious use of gears - restricting gear shifts to minimum as possible and without undue high acceleration speeds I am yet to take a 100% out-of-city drive - may be it will give 15 mileage

How much do you think the 1.6 would give you on an average? I mean, the mileage is bound to drop but m thinking when the car is loaded with 4 passengers, it should still return the same average as the 1.2 because the car doesnt have to struggle much. Of course, use of the clutch and increased acceleration is bound to exist when the car is powerful..

@ Allen - The 1.2 Fabia is a 3 cylinder engine while the 1.6 is a 4 cylinder engine car plus the 1.6 is a bigger engine so lesser fuel efficiency. Expect 15 to 16kmpl on the 1.2 Fabia and 11kmpl on the 1.6

I recently purchased Fabia Diesel 1.2 Ambient Car and i must say that it is an excellent car. So far i have driven 2500 kms and i got an overall average of 22 per lit. driving pleasure and comfort level is very good. I am happy to select this car.
